I have been attending DragonCon for the past four years. For those of you who don't know, dragon con is an absolutely massive sci-fi/fantasy nerdgasm held every year in downtown Atlanta. I'm not much into sci-fi, but I attend to take part in the combat robot tournament that is held there every year (Robot Battles). Usually, I procrastinate and end up finishing my robot the night before the competition. That, combined with the metric buttload of AP classes that I took in high school didn't give me much time to do anything else DragonCon related, like preparing a decent cosplay. For dragonCon '08, I went as New Age Retro Hippie from earthbound. I didn't have to make any sort of a costume because I bear an amazing natural resemblance to New Age Retro Hippie.
Now that I am in college and I have much more free time, I have decided to prepare a "real" cosplay for next year's DragonCon. I will be an aperture science test subject, (basically Chell from portal, but male). There are like, 50 billion orange jumpsuits on eBay, so I am not in a rush to get one yet. I have started to make an actual size weighted companion cube over the past few days. It is not finished, but it is looking good. For my portal gun, I will get a huge super soaker and spray paint it silver. I might add a few bits of scrap metal to it for added realism.
This cosplay seems much more "doable" than my old idea to cosplay as Lavos from chrono trigger. I was actually going to do it, making it out of chicken wire and paper mache, but then I realized it wouldn't fit in a car.
