then again i support decriminalization and legalization of most drugs so they can be heavily tariffed to help the deficit. that goes with the other victimless crimes like prostitution and gambling
god damn judean-christian values!
You really wanna legalize Crack and like Acid? Stuff that dangerous? (I am with you on prostitution and gambling is already legal up here). Prostitution is as old as time itself why it's not legal already since it's so commonplace, I haven't a bloody clue.
obviously the greater the chance to harm society the harder i would make it to be able to actually get the drug (aka tariff the carp out of it). you cannot remove such drugs from society, so why not benefit from it?
and i wouldn't necessarily agree 'acid' is as dangerous as you make it out to be. maybe meth....but it's not like i've studied these drugs and their adverse effects intensely

I agree with you to the extent that I hate having to account for these when I prepare corporate tax returns. There are such tricky rules involved.
I work hard for the money~
Speaking of marijuana im about to use some right now =]
Almost everyone that i know either smokes it or used to smoke it in the past, i think Marry J should be Legal for peoples over the age of 21, because at 21 you should have the right to do whatever you want to your body since you already know all of the facts by then and have matured beyond "I wanna smoke it to be normal like everyone else" mentality, and I also think it should be made legal to members of the military in controlled doses since they can get shot up or bombed any day.

That's like saying drunk driving should be OK, because you're responsible for your own well-being. The law is in place more so than for your own personal protection. It's there for the protection of society as a whole.
Legalizing it would entail a lot of "infrastructure" (i.e. setting up regulations, sanctions, related laws, etc.) for keeping the public safe.
still think its ridiculous in the US that someone can go to war and get killed at 18, but can't drink alcohol

loool i never hear that a smoker killed anybody or something like that ^^
Cancer from second-hand smoke?
Wow the zigaretts also do it .
And if is legal or not no one is interessed who wants it get it and smoke it.
Here in the swiss they are try to make it legal for over 18 years old people. I hope they can make it free....
Often the peoples smoke because is not allowed

Smoking marijuana DOES NOT hurt any one else but yourself if you smoke too much, If your over 21 and can't take responsibility for yourself and control your usage or seek help from a rehab center then thats your own damn fault. Anyways if the govt decided to employ "infastructure" and lots of it how would that pose a problem? it'll just make the case better and safer.

EDIT: And in the situation of second hand smoke just get your carp out of the area or ask the smoker to leave, geez should i even have had to answer that?
Yeah, it's not like marijuana impairs your judgment in a way similar to alcohol!
Wait, carp
Wait, carp
Notice how the people supporting the idea of legalizing marijuana are forgetting about the detriment to people who don't smoke, and society as a whole.
But to be fair, why the carp is alcohol still legal when it's effects on society, and individuals tend to be far worse than most drugs?

Honestly I wonder this every time I see people getting drunk.

It's too ingrained into our culture for us to remove it. Same with cigarettes. The outrage would be unfathomable and it would just lead to black market cigarettes and alcohol.
I drink very, very rarely and never get drunk. IMO it should be against the law entirely to get more than a little tipsy.

Really? Who's doing that here?
One does not legalize marijuana by putting the necessary infrastructure in order to protect society from it. I thought this was basic concept so I need not mention it.

The fact that people get killed everyday from asshats who think playing rush and roulette while drunk with cars is fun should make everyone question why it's legal.

It's really too bad that society has embraced such deadly substance with no fear of the dangers.
Alcohol has been around for ages, and has been responsible for so many deaths that it's ridiculous. That alone has kept me from drinking regularly. If I consume alcohol of any kind, it's merely as a social gesture, and in small amounts.
You'd think people who want marijuana legalized would regularly argue that alcohol is more carp up, and is legal, to get there point across.
I could imagine a commercial slogan for marijuana dealers if it was legalized. "Spliff. When sex isn't enough."

If we're talking about medicinal use, then you're right, it goes without saying, but recreational use is a totally different subject; which is what some people in this thread are gunning for. How well has society been protected from the already legal substances that are potentially deadly to the health of any individual?
Cigarettes and Alcohol has already been covered. Marijuana would have the same detriment as both of those if it was legal for recreational use. Even with restrictions.
i refuse to believe drugs are better than sex jesus
