i am thinking of starting to play Yugioh, so what structure deck should i get to start with
i have been looking at some, and so far i like Machine Revolt, but i am not sure if it is good.
I would like to start also. Could anyone explain to me how to play? And what cards I should get? And just so you know, I have absolutely no knowledge in Yugioh.
- You and your opponent both have 40-60 card decks, not including Side and Extra (See "Other Decks").
- Both players shuffle their decks, and the other player cuts.
- Rock-paper-scissors to see who gets to pick going first or second.
- The life points of both players are set to 8000.
- Both players draw five cards from the top of the deck for their hands.
- The player who goes first (player 1) draws one (1) card from the deck.
- Player 1 may Normal Summon, Tribute Summon, or Set one monster per turn.*
- Player 1 may play as many Spells and Trap cards** as they wish.
- Player 1 may not attack on the first turn of the duel.
- Once player 1 ends their turn, player 2 may go.
- Player 2 draws.
- Player 2 may Summon or Set a monster, and may play Spells and Traps.
- Player 2 may attack. (See "Battle Phase")
- Player 2 may enter Main Phase 2 (See "Phases") or end their turn.
- Play continues in this manner until one player loses. (See "Ways to Win")
If you are playing a single duel, that is it. However, there are other rules for matches (sets of three), where Side-Decking comes in.
*You may only play one monster from your hand each turn. At least, that is the normal rule. However, some monsters have the ability to be "Special Summoned", where you fulfill specific conditions to summon that card. This does not count towards the number of monsters you have Normal Summoned. There are five slots where you may Summon monsters on the game mat.
**You may play as many Spell and Trap cards from your hand as you wish. However, before a Trap is activated, you must first set it face-down on the playing field. Some Spell cards also have that stipulation written into their effects. You may play Spells and Traps in the designated area of five slots.
- Matches are best-of-three. You may use your Side deck in between these matches.
- The Limited and Forbidden lists change quarterly (to my knowledge), so always look for cards from your deck there. It can be found
here. Also see the
Currently Legal Cards list for more information about promotional cards.
- Some cards have Limitation Text, which means that they give instructions on use, including "This card cannot be used in a duel."
Phases are the way in which a turn progresses.
-Draw Phase — when you draw that turn's card.
-Standby Phase — skipped unless mentioned in a card effect.
-Main Phase 1 — where most Summoning, activating Spells, and setting Traps takes place.
-Battle Phase — when you may attack your opponent's monster(s) or them directly. See rule book for more.
-Main Phase 2 — where additional setting, activating, and occasionally summoning takes place.
-End Phase —Used to declare the turn over.
Ways to Win are all the ways that you can win a duel.
-Reducing your opponent's life points to zero. This can be done by attacking directly, or through effects.
-Your opponent is unable to draw a card during the Draw Phase of their turn. This can be done through Milling your opponent's deck, stalling, or both.
-Exodia. If you get the five pieces of Exodia into your hand (Exodia the Forbidden One, Right Arm of the Forbidden One, Right Leg of the Forbidden One, Left Arm of the Forbidden One, and Left Leg of the Forbidden One), then your opponent loses automatically. There are decks built around collecting Exodia.
