I don't understand all of the hate towards the combat system in Mirror's Edge. What is so bad about it? There is enough variation in my opinion. Besides, the game is clearly not about the combat. It is about the first person platforming, and because of that, it is all that really matters in the game.

Try playing the game on Normal difficulty without using guns. You'll learn pretty quickly why everyone hates the combat in that game.

I beat the game on Normal difficulty without using guns (okay, I think I may have once, but that was because I had just disarmed a guy and forgot to drop the gun). It gets really hectic in the later levels, but I had a lot of fun figuring out a strategy to make it through.

EDIT:

Some people experience a bug on the forum which causes the first post on a new page of a thread to disappear until the second is posted. He posted "bug" to indicate that he was unable to see my post.

Theres a bug that means that sometimes when people post, the post comes up on the next page but the page number doesn't come up so you can't see the post. The only way to get the page to show is to post another reply.

um isnt using the guns part of the game, is it really fare to criticize the combat while not using an advantage that you should?

(keep in mind i have played 5 minutes of mirrors edge)
I think Roan's point is that it's absurdly difficult to play without guns, therefore the gun system should be better than it is.

Well honestly the game was meant to be played without using the guns. The whole lure of the game is that you are someone who can perform near superhuman maneuvers to take out your enemies and to scale the environment. When you pick up a gun it COMPLETELY slows you down and limits your freedom to move around the obstacles in the environment, which breaks the flow of the game. Not to mention there is a trophy/achievement for playing through the game without ever shooting an enemy. Its almost as if EA/DICE were encouraging people to avoid combat, and I think that was the original intent for the game but they felt they had to add in a shooting mechanic to help sell the game. (Which didn't end up working out so well for them lol)

Granted, they encourage you to avoid enemy encounters altogether but there are multiple occasions where this isn't possible. If it were possible to run through the entire game without ever being forced to fight then it would be fine, but the problem is that you are forced to fight, numerous times. Often the best course of action is to just disarm the enemies and keep running, but there's problems there as well because the hit detection in the game is wonky as hell and a lot of times you will know with absolute certainty that you timed your disarm correctly and yet the enemy will still drop you in two pistol whips. Its retarded.

Ordered an 8 gig memstick for my psp after FF7 took up all the space on my 2 gig.

Psp rocks.
no it doesnt.

tomorrow i will borrow 2 games from my friend, assasins creed and ninja gaiden ,for 2 weeks. i may buy assasins creed from him with 27$.or do i buy ninja gaiden?
Since you're borrowing them both why don't you play them and then decide which one you like best, then buy that one?

actually it's more trying to play the same types of games found on consoles.

ds is just a kickass gameboy that you can draw on with a lot of shity "casual" games
i was not impressed with the ds the more i played it

while custom robo and metroid prime hunters were super cool, they got stale after a while. do not even remind me of pokemon.

i think that the PSP is for the more mature and media-oriented audience (movies, music, videos, pictures, etc) while the ds is now more of a "please everyone" handheld (with its puzzles, pet sims, children games in general, etc)

while there will be the DSi, i think it's just trying to appeal to some that are on the fence about those two handhelds
I'm playing against someone named xASSGASMx on XBL.

Awesome.
