Dude's Story: Beyblade Apocalypse

This is basically my response to all those stories that are being posted.

~Beyblade Apocalypse~

-Part 1-

As the dark clouds roamed away into their endless trip towards the horizon, a silent figure emerged from seemingly nowhere. One of the rare bird that still flew high announced the arrival of the newcomer through a not-so-harmonious chant, attracting the attention of the cloaked figure. The rocky ground seemed to go as far as the eye could see and food was hard to find, which is why the bird was probably following that person, waiting for the moment to strike and feed upon its carcass. Far away, the glimpse of an old town could be seen. Unlike the abandoned cities she had encountered up to that point, this town appeared to have life in it, which was awfully rare, these days. She hoped to reach it by dawn, although determining what time it was based on the sun was nearly impossible, because of the black and crimson clouds shrouding the sky, creating a constant state of twilight. Her legs could carry her no more and the mere thought of relaxation was quite soothing for the young girl. Unfortunately, nothing ever goes the way she’d like, as she heard the sound of running people, most likely trying to surround her. The little strength she had left could probably have been enough to flee from this impending danger, but she chose to allow her pursuers to circle her until they directly approached their target. It was a group of young men, probably just slightly older than she was. Their number was six and they were obviously not here to welcome her or, at least, not welcome nicely. She had heard of gangs that leeched off travelers. Had it been a few years ago, she would have despised these miserable remnants of men with all her heart, but as things were these days, she could understand their ruthless actions. Furthermore, the fatigue had gotten to her a while ago and she certainly didn’t feel like wasting time with them. They all wore black clothes, as if that was somehow original or scary, and exhibited grinning faces while a disgusting giggle could be heard from them. One of them, probably their pathetic excuse for a leader, decided the time for giggling was over and started talking.

“Hey there, stranger! He said, mentally thinking he was in control of the situation. We don’t see too many fellows traveling around here, these days. We got some bad news, though. Y’see, there’s an entering this area fee you just gotta pay and, well, seems to me like you’re in the area! The price to pay is all your bey points. So, will you give ‘em to us nice and easy or will you be stupid and go for a fight with us, the Mighty Dark Bladers X?!”

The announcement of their group’s name was apparently a clue for the other ruffians to take out their launchers and beyblades to battle the still unimpressed cloaked figure. Their blades themselves consisted mainly of terrible customizations, like Dark Leone. Slowly, with a certain elegant grace, the girl took the cloak off, revealing her deep-blue hair that laid down on her shoulders, her nearly perfect and smooth skin, her golden-colored eyes that held an unsettling maturity and her mouth that didn’t show a smile, but seemed shaped to do so. With a bored look, she observed her attackers and whispered:

“Six on one, huh? I don’t have time for such follies. Get out of my sight.”

“Ha! You talk pretty big, girly! One of the members yelled back. But we’ve got number power! No way you can beat all six of us in your sorry state!”

After sighing quite loudly and rolling her eyes, she in turn took out her rusted metal launcher as well as her beyblade. Certain of their victories, the thieves began the classic beyblade countdown, without the blue-haired girl partaking in this ritual. On the signal of “Goooo...SHOOT!” all opponents launched their beys. The six enemy beys quickly surrounded the girl’s spinning top, similar to their real-life tactic of surrounding the enemy. The girl’s beyblade simply stood their, unwavering. Taking the girl’s lack of offense as a sign of fright, the leader decided it was time to move in for the kill. With a mere look to his teammates, they began their own little finishing move, which basically consisted of just running into the other bey, but, much to their amazement, a powerful flash that emerged from the targeted bey knocked away all of theirs. Three of the six beys stopped spinning at that moment, their owners gasping idiotic loser talk like “N-No way!” or “W-Waaaaaah?!” while the girl remained silent. The other three gang members, confused by the defeat of their friends, only took action after a few seconds and did the only thing they really knew how to do and had probably worked to that point: Charge. Mindless, unparalleled charging. The opposing bey was slightly shinning, as demonstration of its power and a warning not to come closer. In another flash, it knocked away the two closest beyblades and headed for the last at an unnatural speed, followed by a trace of white energy, and easily blasted away the last. The battle was over in less than 10 seconds. The thugs, impressed and afraid by the girl’s power, ran away, all except for one, their leader, who seemed paralyzed in fear. The girl picked up her spinning top which had gently spun all the way back to her and looked at the remaining teenager. Afraid of eventual punishment, he clumsily walked backwards only to fall on his posterior and kind of wobble away.

“H-Hey, c’mon, now. We didn’t mean to be disrespectful, or anything. You just do what you can to survive in this world, y’know?” Obviously, he was panicked.

“I know it’s hard to get food, these days, and that bey points are just about the only method us younger people can get our hands on something to eat, but if I ever catch you and your friends doing this sort of thing, I’ll take all your points away.”

“Oh, you’re not gonna take ‘em all, this time?”

“No. I’ve got enough points as it is.”

And she slipped her hand into her pocket, revealing her Bey Pointer, which had the clear number of “99 999” on its counter. The boy’s eyes widened at the sight of such a high number, quite exactly the highest it could even get. She silently put her bey pointer back in her pocket and turned her back to the boy, who was still in shock. He asked:

“Hold on! What’s your name? What’s this crazy powerful beyblade you use?”

“...I’m Sofia and my beyblade is Transcendent Pegasis.”

As she walked away, the city began to get clearer until she finally reached it. It was always quite sad for her to walk into a city. She would always get nostalgia of the life she used to lead, before the Catastrophe happened. Few were walking the streets, the dark sky striking down every shred of happiness they might have, forcing them back into their house. It was late, anyway, and the atmosphere would soon become noxious and poisonous, because of the green rain. The children had already retreated into safer places and Sofia had in mind to do the same. She had become oblivious to panic or anxiety at the thought of that deadly rain so many feared and she knew that getting all worked up over it would only waste her energy. Therefore, she spotted an inn-bar that seemed to have a decent shelter and headed there. As she entered, the bell attached above the door signaled her arrival as the customers all turned their necks to see who had just come in, even though they certainly didn’t really care or would do anything depending on who came in. As the ambiance, or what little there was of it, picked back up despite her, she slowly sat on a bench at the bar. The bartender, a tall, muscular but slightly old man, came to her, while scrubbing a glass a consumer had just finished using .

“Welcome, gal, he said with a tired but still warm and friendly voice. What can I serve ya?”

“What’ve you got?” She replied, while enjoying the fact that she could finally relax much more than her face showed.

“Water or beer.”

“Minors can’t drink. Water it is.”

“Still attached to those old governmental rules, huh? You don’t look like much of a minor to me, how old are ya?”

“17.”

“Ah! Just on the edge. Well, it’s not like anyone here minds youngsters drinking alcohol. If you want some good booze, just ask.”

“No thanks. The water will be fine.”

“You got it. So, I haven’t seen you here, before. You from out of town?”

“Yes.”

“Traveling with someone, I assume?”

“No.”

“Alone?!”

“Yes.”

“You know it’s really dangerous, right?”

“Yes, I do know the risks. Can I have my water?”

Concluding that the young lady probably knew what she was doing, the bartender headed to the back, where the fresh water canteens were being stocked for the costumers. Water was a precious thing, now that more than 45% of it had vanished, during the Catastrophe, and was kept with much jealousy by those who had some. Once the glass of clear, sparkling water was given to the girl, she drank it all in one go and asked for more. Aware of the harshness the travelers had to go through, he quickly got her a second glass, which she only sipped every now and then, this time. The bartender, eager to start a conversation with someone who had survived in the very depths of chaos and who didn’t have much to talk about with the other clients anyway, approached Sofia once again, but couldn’t think of much to ask her, although he was saved from an awkward silence from her.

“This is a pretty small town. Info must pass on real quick, right?”

“It sure does. You need to know something about this dump?”

“I’m looking for a man. He also travels.”

“Oh, could he have passed through the town during his pilgrimage? What’s his name?”

“He’s called Oswald.”

“Ah! Yes, Oswald. He’s been in here, he even sat a few benches from where you are! He left town a few weeks ago, after buying rations to go to the next town. Very nice and polite fellow, I gotta say. Are you a friend of his?”

“No, quite the opposite, in fact. I have a deep grudge against him. He’s done something to me, something that I can’t ever forgive. That’s why I have to find him...and make him pay.”

“What? Now, what could he have done to you that would make you have such hate of him? I can’t picture Oswald doing anything too bad... Did he steal something from ya?”

“I’ll spare you the details but...let’s just say he made my life a living Hell for far too long...”

~Part 2~

“That bloody rain started. No way you can travel at a time like this or even get out of here, so I’ll assume you’ll rent a room. So, how’re you gonna pay, missy?”

The sudden voice of the bartender snapped her out of her thought bubble. She had been drinking and eating all night long and didn’t realized that the rain had already started. “How odd, she thought. It started much earlier than usual. Could the cycles be changing?” Tired of that long day she had just spent fighting weak thieves and walking through the desert, bearing that incredibly dense and unpleasing atmosphere, she decided to answer the owner of the bar and quickly get some much wanted sleep.

“Will Bey Points do it?”

“Bey Points, military credit, cash, natural, it’s all good. By the way, I don’t really care what kind of relation you have with that kid Oswald, but if you’re looking for him, he went south, most likely to the town of Ikawatsu. He may be planning to make some cash with his Beyblade skills. That’s how you kids proceed, nowadays, right?”

“No, he’s not there for money, nor is he there for bey points. Oswald has no interest in such things...What room do I get?”

As she finally looked at the bartender, she saw the purest state of confusion, in his eyes. The Oswald he met was apparently not the same kind of man at all, but she didn’t care. He didn’t know what Oswald had done or what he was truly like, he didn’t know what she had to go through because of him, he probably couldn’t even grasp the proportions of it all, hence why she didn’t feel like talking to him anymore. She silently took the set of keys the man was handing her and went for the second floor. Most of the customers had already went to sleep, considering the late hour, and she felt as if she probably should have done the same. Looking out the reinforced glass window, she saw it, what the world had become, how low it had sunk in 10 short years. The deep-green colored rain was the doom of anything alive that dared brave the night, only to be confronted with pain and, eventually, death. As she desperately tried to open the door to her room, she heard a horrifying scream shatter the already frightening night. Forgetting about her terrible lack of energy and urgent need for sleep, she sprung downstairs, where the bartender and a few late costumers were looking out the windows.

“What’s going on?” Sofia quickly asked.

“There’s a girl outside in the rain!”

Aware that no man here, no matter how courageous, would challenge that cursed rain for a single life of a girl probably so stupid that she would go outside at a time like this, Sofia, reached out to her cloak, which she had pleasantly forgotten on her bench when she decided to go to her room, and threw it on the top of her head. She yelled the order of opening the strong and heavy steel doors, which only the barman started doing. The others were simply mystified by the concept of opening the doors during the rain, one of them even asking “Are you crazy? You’ll kill us all!” question which Sofia simply ignored. She wasn’t very fond of cowards, but, after a few seconds, two other men started helping the barman, if only so they could sleep that night without the thought that they had condemned a girl to her death. Once the doors were opened, she went outside, quickly looking for the endangered person. It was a white-haired young girl who seemed to be stuck under some rubbles or steel beams, which certainly were a crushing weight for a person her size. How she could possibly have gotten under those right before the rain started or why she didn’t ask for help up until then was something she would try to find out later, but right now, she needed to get her out of there. Despite being arguably quite though, Sofia remained a woman and, besides, most men wouldn’t have been able to lift what was on the crying girl. In a gut reaction, she took out her bey launcher and her silver and blue blade, releasing Pegasis in the direction of the weight holding the girl down. In a single, powerful swoop, the beyblade knocked off all of it, releasing the girl, whose skin would soon start to peel off, if she didn’t find a shelter very soon. Sofia took off her cloak and made the girl wear it, whispering “Follow me.” and risking her own skin in the process. The blue-haired girl’s beyblade came right back to her hand, which she quickly put back in her pocket. The rain was especially dangerous for small metal objects, like tools or beyblades and losing Pegasis would have been a great loss, for her. They both ran off towards the bar where Sofia previously was, the rescued girl shrieking and crying her pain. If the rain didn’t instantly provoke death, it certainly harmed one’s body by touch, but Sofia was used to it, so it certainly didn’t feel so bad to be under it for a few seconds and protecting that poor girl that had endured it for far too long seemed like the logic thing to do. Once they had ran all the way into the bar, the doors were shut tight and they could finally take a breath. While the beyblader simply enjoyed the fact she wasn’t outside anymore, the other girl fell to her knees and tried to get some energy back.

“Hey, do you feel okay?” asked the girl’s rescuer.

After a moment of silence, the girl lifted her eyes to look at Sofia directly. She had an adorable, well-proportioned face, but the main focus of it all was her enormous, grotesque, anime-like pink eyes, rendered slightly red because of her tears. She seemed at a loss for words, which the female blader could understand. She remembered the first time she experienced it first-hand, so a few tears were to be expected. Sofia kneeled down and helped the other, yet nameless girl get back up.

“What happened? Why were you stuck there?”

“Hmm...I think I was home and then...Hmm...”

“I think we both need to relax. Is it okay if I take her to my room?” she asked, turning her head to the barman.

“Fine with me, as long as you still pay for the room. But what’s that cloak you got? I’ve never seen any piece of clothing that can actually resist the rain. Is it an army invention, or something?”

“No. It’s a gift, from a friend of mine. Nothing worth mentioning. We’ll go, now. “

“I’d love to call up a doctor, to make sure she’s not hurt of anything, but, well, the rain would keep ‘im from coming.” Said the barman, a little shameful that he could do so little

Slightly helping the tired girl getting up, they both went up the stairs, under the still shocked looks of the various men in the bar, saddened to hardly understand the situation but too demoralized and hopelessly sleepy to aske for answers to their many questions, which themselves would fade away with the sweet elixir that was alcohol, anyway. Once they had finally reached the room, which was the very uncomfortable, classic and simple two-bed chamber, she helped the girl sit on the bed and sat on the other one, so that she could talk with her.

“Okay, I’ve got some questions, but if you’re too tired, I can wait for tomorrow.” Sofia asked, her maternal instincts kicking in to take care of this poor, fragile girl.

“Oh, it’s fine! She said with her mellow voice. You can ask me what you want right away, I’ll answer like I can.”

She was smiling. Her smile was warm, touching, something no one was able to do, since the Catastrophe. In fact her child-like innocence was something even children had lost a long time ago and how she was able to smile away after facing near death was beyond Sofia, who could smile back, mostly in pity.

“What were you doing under the rain?”

“I was heading back home, because of the mean rain, but then I tripped over a wheelbarrow that was containing some material for the construction of the new water well. I guess one of the rocks knocked me out and no one noticed until I woke up. I’m glad I did, though. I would’ve been in a bad shape, if I hadn’t. Hehe!”

“That’s a pretty straight-forward story. Well then, I’m glad you’re okay. Let’s get some sleep and, tomorrow, I’ll get you back to your parents.”

“Thank you so much for taking care of me and letting me stay in your room! It’s really nice of you.”

“Don’t mention it, it’s natural. “

The girl, almost as soon as she laid her head on her pillow, fell asleep, a smile on the face. Her carefree, innocent attitude was still a surprise for Sofia. “Maybe there’s still hope for us, in this Hell, if this girl can still find happiness somehow...” she thought, as she also attempted to sleep. The few hours she could get were enough, since, in the morning, she found that all her strength and energy was back, despite the eventful night that had followed. Still lying on her bed, she looked out the window: The rain had stopped, although the clouds were as black as always, which she was quite used to. Few were in the streets, most of them were only there to seek food or materials to fix their shelters, which had probably been damaged by last night’s rain. The girl was gone, but she found out that she had already went down to grab a bite or what she called breakfast, although it was merely the usual rations which composed mostly every single meal of the day. Once again she smiled as she recognized Sofia walking down the stairs.

“Morning! She giggled, before the blue-haired girl’s tired figure. You slept well?”

“As well as I could sleep for five hours, I guess. Ready to go home?”

“Yep! But I can go myself, if you’re busy.”

“I’d rather be sure you’re okay. Let’s go.”

Sofia paid for the room, slightly smiling at the flabbergasted face of the barman, once he saw how much points she had, and the two girls were off. As it turned out, the girl’s house was quite close to the inn they both slept at. Once there, the girl’s mother, whose husband was probably dead, Sofia assumed, overly thanked her with a few tears and whimpers here and there, while the rescuer remained calm and spoke very little. Once the final thank was said, Sofia, waved them good-bye and went headed for the market so she could stock up on supplies and leave for the next town. Suddenly, five boys, whom she recognized as the thieves from earlier that had confronted her when she entered the town, stepped in her way with the same idiotic grinning faces they had before. Sofia understood what they were here for, since she had dealt with kinder-garden morons like them, in the past. They were here for revenge, of course.

“Remember us, Sofia?” asked their leader.

“Yes, I do. What’s the point of this? You’re just going to lose, like yesterday. Wasn’t one defeat enough?” she sighed, hoping she could talk them away, since time was precious, for a traveler.

“No way, girly! We didn’t really like how you treated us, back there. I think you owe us an apology, which we’ll take in the form of those numerous bey points you got!”

“I need them, right now. What makes this different from yesterday? Just shoot all your weak beyblades, I’ll beat them and we can all continue with our individual businesses.”

“No way. We’re doing this one on one, this time! For the occasion, I went ahead and got myself a little something special, just for you.”

“What might that be, a combo that doesn’t suck? Just get ready.”

And so another beyblade match started, with the two opponents raising their launchers, both of them confident of their victory. Once again, that household countdown was said, before the spinning tops were released with the cry of “GO SHOOT!” Sofia observed her adversary’s beyblade and realized something.

“You changed beyblade...That’s not just new customization, it’s entirely different.”

“That’s right! Got this free from a shady guy passing through town. I tested it out, and with this, I can’t lose! You’re going down!”

She remained silent at the stereotypical threats, concentrating on the ongoing fight. Suddenly, she felt it. Her heart began pounding. Her nerves were tightened. It was ‘that’ again. That abominable feeling she got when battling Oswald. As if to confirm her fears, she saw a dark-purple aura around the beyblade. It was a Cursed Beyblade. Its speed and strength could be strongly felt from the first collision with Sofia’s Pegasis, as it seemed to actually match the power of the spinning top that had crushed the bully’s just yesterday. A few blows were exchanged, with both beys seemingly displaying the same power.

“Who gave you that beyblade?” Sofia asked, while keeping an eye on the fight.

“Some guy named Richter gave it to me. I ran into him right after our last encounter. He said no one could defeat me again, if I used this. Funny how the solution to beating you fell right on my lap right after you crushed us. But now, I got something to make you pay!”

Sofia didn’t know of anyone named Richter, which worried her quite a lot. There was an unknown man distributing Cursed Beyblades to just about anyone, which was dangerous for everyone.

“You don’t know what you’re doing. This is a Cursed Beyblade you’re using. We should agree to stop the match now or you’ll regret it. “

“End it? Ha! Don’t make me laugh! If feel fantastic! The only reason you’d want to stop the fight is because you know you don’t stand a chance!”

The fight went on, but if he wouldn’t listen to reason, Sofia knew she had no choice but to end it. If such a dangerous bey was involved, it was either him or her. She decided to go for the kill right away and so, she yelled out her beys name, which started glowing in a blue, white-ish light.

“Pegasis! Special Move...Brilliant Xanadu!”

At that moment, Pegasis propelled itself towards the enemy bey and, in a single instant, obliterated the other, which hardly had the time to defend itself. The nameless villains simply widened their eyes at this quick defeat, once again, impressed by the sheer power of that special move. Suddenly their leader, the user of the losing bey, started having convulsions. His eyes went blank and his lungs desperately looked for oxygen, which his throat seemed unable to grasp. The spasms got worse to the point where he felt to the ground, scaring away two of his so-called friends and horribly worrying the other two, who could do nothing but ask what was wrong. After a few seconds, the convulsions stopped, but so did any movement from him. He was dead. The two remaining boys turned to Sofia, who looked sorry for him.

“W-What the hell happened?! He’s dead, isn’t he? How can that be?”

“He used a Cursed Beyblade. Those are special beys that turn matches into live or die battles. If the user wins, he consumes the soul of the loser, turning the loser into its slave. But if the user loses the fight, he also loses his life. Those beys do indeed have nearly infinite potential, but there is one thing that can match them, which are Holy Beyblades. Pegasis is one of them. “

“That’s just crazy! Who the hell would buy that?!” the other one said, still panicked.

“Well...Your friend’s dead, isn’t he?”

As if that sudden realization was enough, they both ran away in fear. Sofia decided to bring the body to a place where people could find it without her being spotted and also left, skipping town. There was nothing left for her, here, and so she finally stocked up as she had planned all along. She now had another goal in mind than just finding Oswald and that was to also find that mysterious Richter. If he was giving off those dark weapons to people, than maybe he was the one making them, somehow, and she could finally put an end to this insanity.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys. I'm already working on part 2 Joyful_3
you don't want to be night's rival... your story is just as good, maybe better, that's why I brought that up
Unsurprisingly there are not a lot of replies to this topic : the story is simply too long for some people ...

What are the parts of Transcendent Pegasis? Although, like I said before, I have no complaints. Great story!
So, part 2 was added. Might as well address a few of the questions 'n comments.

That's what character development is for XD But hey, wouldn't you be cold and stoic if it was the end of the world?

I have no idea. I didn't really think of that, I guess I'll just ask Kai-V what makes sense XD

And with that, thanks for all the nice comments, guys, and sorry this took so long.

Good point. So there is hope. I'm guessing an explanation of the "apocalypse" is coming in a later episode?
