A +1 means gaining a card advantage in some way. Using Respite recycles two cards, and you draw three. You trade 3 cards for 3 new ones.
Anyways, I drew a few hands with a 42 card GB deck with 1 less Spell Card and 3 proxy Respites, and it's not something that I really like. Playing with Respite takes adjusting, and the times where I draw Respite, I would have definitely preferred to have drawn a Spell or Trap that would be more useful in that situation. It would help whenever I drew Secutor, Retiari, or Murmillo though, but Test Tiger remedies that problem.
