It's a shame that we can't have the same competitive following as Yu-Gi-Oh, with major corporate events throughout the year, even though people are buying Beyblades like crazy in North America. Part of this is probably because Bey-battles are so short, and Hasbro markets the many product combinations over-the-counter (as opposed to blind-boxes and booster packs.)
Between the quest for rare cards and the need to test decks over and over for major competitions, Konami has quite the weekly following. That kind of community lends itself to casual dueling throughout the week in Yu-Gi-Oh. With Beyblades, there's just less incentive for weekly play because competitors and events are so few and far in between. There's no higher paragon to work towards (without all ages 12+ tournaments), so it's rare you find someone say:
"Hey, you want to just spin tops, bro?"
( I use the simile because there's such an active Yu-Gi-Oh following in DFW, between major Konami events and local stores like Comic Book Craze, Cosmic Comics, etc. )
