Hi, yes. Testing thread. Checking to make sure this thing still works.
I've had this idea for YEARS. I got a cosmic 2 years ago, I got an RB and an RSF last year, I got a TH170 today. I've wanted to make a testing thread for a while. So here we are.
What does the combo do?
This combo aims to KO mid and low height stamina from above, while sitting just low enough to destabilize 230 into a KO. It also aims to OS low height attack and defense 230 style.
Why were these parts chosen?
Normal Face Bolt: It's tall, and I imagine it wouldn't be able to get some of the OS's it does here with the instability generated by a metal face. I left out metal faces on everything this time around, but I imagine it would only have mattered for the meteo matchup. White face because it pairs with the cw and paint.
Pegasis 1: I picked this because it's sky blue, and I painted my cosmic pink. Trans pride, baby! ...stamina CWs might be better, but peg1 being light might actually help it balance.
Cosmic: It's effectively a hybrid wheel analogue to PHW Pegasis in that it has high smash attack and force smash, but it has generally mediocre ability to hit upwards. It also has higher stamina to succeed on RSF or RB where PHW Pegasis might be lacking. As PHW Pegasis has found success on TH170, it seems worthwhile to try Cosmic on it too.
TH170: TH170 enables Cosmic to be just low enough to KO low stamina types while hitting medium height stamina types on relatively equal footing. It also enables it to ascend to 220 height to outspin defense combos and low attack types.
RB: I chose this over RF/R2F/LRF as Cosmic does not hugely benefit from the mobility, and instead benefits from being able to be launched as hard as possible, which will come up in several matchups. RB in specific was chosen over RSF and CS due to its ability to keep itself upright more readily, which is important as Cosmic generally wants to be as close to parallel to the ground when it hits things. A worn RSF might be better suited for handling stallers and be able to lean a bit more to KO stamina types while keeping the ability to stay upright, but my current RSF is fresh, so I am using RB instead. I may do a follow-up once my RSF is worn.
Testing:
All testing was done in the Summit stadium.
vs Defense
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (220) vs Jade Cancer DF105RS
Alternated launches, both flat launched hard
Cosmic: 8 wins (8 OS)
Jade: 2 wins (1 KO, 1 OS)
Cosmic Win Rate: 80%
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (220) vs Earth Aquario 90CS
Alternated launches, Cosmic flat launched hard, Earth flat launched hard to attempt KO
Cosmic: 7 wins (2 KO, 5 OS)
Earth: 2 wins (1 KO, 1 OS)
1 draw (double KO)
Cosmic Win Rate: 70%
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (170) vs Bakushin Leone 85MF
Alternated launches, Cosmic hard launched at tilt, Bakushin launched to stall
Cosmic: 0 wins
Bakushin: 10 wins (3 KO, 7 OS)
Cosmic Win Rate: 0%
THE SWIFT SPECIAL STRIKES AGAIN! Cosmic doesn't reach low enough to KO Bakushin, and Bakushin just stalls it out, contact or not.
vs Stamina
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (170) vs Meteo L. Drago Absorb LW105W2D
Alternated launches, light launch for meteo (alternated between death triangle and stationary), flat launch hard for cosmic
Cosmic: 8 wins (5 KO, 3 OS)
Meteo: 2 wins (2 KO)
Cosmic Win Rate: 80%
If Meteo ever stayed in, it would have won by OS. Unfortunately, power launching Cosmic means one of them is exiting the stadium, usually Meteo. If you're unlucky with wall saves though, it's entirely possible your Cosmic uses Meteo as a launch pad to jump out of the stadium itself.
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (170) vs Flame Cancer 230CS
Flame launched first, both flat launched hard
Cosmic: 7 wins (7 KO)
Flame: 3 wins (3 OS)
Cosmic Win Rate: 70%
You need to clean your RB between rounds here and launch extremely hard. I suspect RSF or RF would make this matchup wayyyy easier. 195 and 220 height both suck at this matchup for some reason, sadly.
vs Attack
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (220) vs Screw Susanow 85RF
Cosmic launched first, flat, Screw launched into instant flower
Cosmic: 8 wins (8 OS)
Screw: 2 wins (2 KO)
Cosmic Win Rate: 80%
I'm kinda shocked? I thought Screw would eat it alive here, but it's just barely tall enough and stable enough to where Screw doesn't ever really get to cream the metal wheel and send it flying. I think this is one of those matchups where the slightest screw-up from the Cosmic player could flip the matchup on its' head though.
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (220) vs Lightning L. Drago 85RF
Cosmic launched first, flat, Lightning launched into delayed flower
Cosmic: 9 wins (8 OS)
Screw: 1 wins (1 KO)
Cosmic Win Rate: 90%
Yeowch. It kinda sucks.
I do not feel like breaking my TH170 testing vs mid height attack. Just uh, refer to Dan's vid on the Pegasis version of this combo and how that fares vs something like my signature custom, MF-H Screw Susanow CH120RF.
vs Balance
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (170) vs Gravity Perseus (Defense) CH120MF (120, Left)
Alternated launches, flat launch for gravity, tilt launch for cosmic
Cosmic: 3 wins (3 KO)
Gravity: 7 wins (5 KO, 2 OS)
Cosmic Win Rate: 30%
No surprises here - even if Cosmic doesn't get KO'd, Gravity stalls Cosmic out or equalizes it to death easily.
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (170) vs Burn Pegasis CH120MF (120)
Alternated launches, flat launch for Burn, tilt launch for Cosmic
Cosmic: 1 win (1 KO)
Burn: 9 wins (6 OS, 3 KO)
Cosmic Win Rate: 10%
Also not particularly surprised. Burn stallers are a nightmare for tall combos.
vs THE LEGENDARY 20XX
Cosmic Pegasis TH170RB (220) vs Gravity Perseus (Defense) 85RF (Left)
Alternated launches, flat launch for both
Cosmic: 4 wins (4 OS)
Gravity: 5 wins (5 OS)
1 draw (double OS)
Cosmic Win Rate: 40%
It does much better into this than I thought it would? I assumed it would just get clobbered, but it seems like similar to when it's dealing with low Screw, RB helping it stay upright makes it difficult for Gravity to equalize with it as consistency as I would hope it would in this matchup, or make the necessary contact to KO.
In Conclusion:
Is it meta? No. Is it relevant? I would say so - this is an extremely easy combo to accidentally have your entire deck lose to. I might pull it out in 1st stage 3on3 or deck into people who run gimmick decks. That said, this is itself only really functional at the core of a gimmick deck.
