You need to prove that your combo is really good but I haven't seen any of your tests. Prove it first before you recommend that combo to others.

What would be the best VariAres combos to use for testing other beys?

Variares is only good for attack so use MF-H Variares R145/CH120RF/R2F to test.

WPardin is right, MF-H Variares R145R2F Is the best version to use in battle.

Does LF make a good-enough substitute? It's the closest tip I have to what you suggested.

Not really. Because of the recoil of Vari Ares, you need a rubber tip to make it most effective.

MF VariAres CH120CS, got it. Now I just need an Attack Type BB-10 TT Stadium. Sadly, they're too expensive on Ebay. I guess I'll find a way in time.

If you want a defense/stamina type combo then try Duo Cygnus 230MB. Smile

From the beys you have, you can make quite a lot of useful combos for tournament:
MF-M Duo Cygnus 230MB/D
MF-L Phantom Quetzalcoatl B : D or 90WD
MF-M Death Quetzalcoatl B : D
MF-H Diablo Nemesis T125/S130/DF105RF
MF-H Duo Cygnus 90RB/RDF

The No.1 Blader: Duo Cygnus 230MB is a balance type. It is not a defense type.

My best attempts:
Attack: MSF-H Phoenic Begirados S130R2F, MF-H VariAres R2F/LRF
Defense: MSF-H Gargole Dragooon/Revizer Saramanda BD145/E230 CS/RDF
Stamina: Duo Aquario/Phantom Cancer AD145WD/160D/SR200D/230D
Balance: Duo Aquario 230MB
Spin-Steal: Gravity Perseus STM BD145RDF, MLD CH120EWD, Revizer Dragooon SA165EWD

For Begirados, it is better to pair it with Goreim or Genbull. Make that combo a bit lower using CH120 or DF105. You haven't stated the track of the Variares combo. My suggestion are CH120 or R145.

Do not use Phantom on 230D. Phantom has high recoil so it is better to use CS or MB. W145 is better than AD145.

For Gravity Perseus, I prefer to use MF over RDF. It can attack & spin steal. For Dragooon, I prefer to use Killerken, Gargole or Genbull. You can also use B : D for that combo.

I have a question considering Commando's MLD combo: would a CH120WD work with LDG and/or LD Destructor? I know MLD is better than these 2 when it comes to spin-steal, and that EWD consists of more stamina than WD, but they're the closest I have to your MLD CH120EWD.

Also, would that work best with Ultimate MLD Absorb?

No it wouldn't,with LDG/LDD your best setup is BD145RDF
