For people who are interested in some more details about ranks:
Due to the large number of participants, despite this not being a ranked event, we decided to test out using WBO's preferred bracket generator app, Challonge. Also, due to our competitors mostly being underage participants, we decided to remove the coin wager system (which really changes this back away from a Nightwing standard, but makes the most sense for our audience here in Texas. Encouraging wagering and bets is somewhat frowned upon for younger members of the hobby!!). For all future events which are hosted through WBO, we will continue to use Challonge. There are a few things to be aware of with this system!
-- Once we hit the "Start Tournament" button, participants cannot be added. Due to this event being unranked and since we were not specific about the registration timelines, we did allow some stragglers to come in; this meant they were not in the original Challonge bracket and I needed to track their points separately, and consider the below calculations to place them within the ranks. In future, there will be a 100% firm cutoff time and this will be clearly communicated!
-- Next time, I will work on seeding players better, as today was fully randomized seeding and that made for some unfair match-ups - though we had no complaints and everyone seemed to have fun, being placed against opponents closer to your skill level would be better! We are also discussing hosting a "Pro" and "Amateur" as separate tourneys - more on that as we work out details.
-- Challonge completes calculations based on your opponents scores and the difference - for example, you might have had 15 match points, but place below top 8 because your scores were 5-4, and someone with only 12 match points, but had a score of 5-0, gets bumped up higher than you in rank. Also, you get more points if bladers you defeat proceed to do well in their later matches. As we were only able to have time for 3 rounds today, there were some very close ranks so many of these calculations would have been more detailed if all 6 rounds could have been played.
-- Some people had to leave partway through today, I made the executive decision to have two players play a match and then use their scores against someone else who had a missing person; the missing person got zero. This is not a standard Challonge rule; in future, no match will be played and the person without an opponent will receive a win and 5 points. This can be good and bad - you get the extra match points, but the above calculations will also come into effect and if your opponent continues to no-show for more matches, they don't count as well towards your ranked total.
This is just a summary of my learnings today, and hopefully some of the finer points can be improved next time. Overall I still think today was great! Thanks everyone!

This was an awesome tournament! I made it to top 8, and I'm really excited for the next one!
Here is the final results spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing
The First Round matches were mixed up due to latecomers and people who left early, so only the finals bracket is present.
