lol Metallica pretty much single handily invented modern day metal. Nintendo-core, what? This isn't metal.

Something is old therefor it must be worse than something new D:

What about Megadeath?

ide at most consider them like hard rock
Metallica = Metal
Hands down.

Their newest CD sounds just as good as their first CD Kill Em All.

They may have screwed up a bit with Load, St. Anger and stuff, but they are still why bands like August Burns Red are around today.
i listen to metal, if trivium, slipknot, atreyu, bring me the horizon and pantera count.
Yeah, that's the stuff I was talking about.
Metallica popularized metal to a great extent, and a great deal of mainstream bands in modern day metal sound a lot like Metallica tribute bands (Trivium). Metallica was really influential up until And Justice for All. Everything after that was on the decline.

Megadeth's two most brilliant albums were Peace Sells and Rust in Peace. Everything other than those two weren't really that musically impressive. I'd really argue that those were the two best Thrash metal albums ever released.

Pantera were also extremely influential, and certainly have some highlights. They aren't one of my favorites at all though.

As for metalcore, it's usually a compilation of riffs from the Gothenburg melo death scene, particularly At the Gates. Without At the Gates metalcore probably wouldn't sound a lot how it does now.

You don't know what you're talking about.

The first four Metallica albums were and are still considered some of the finest Thrash metal pieces. Those albums are still superior to a great deal of what is released currently, and if you ever listen carefully it is pretty easy to tell that most modern bands are just playing a variation of Metallica's ideas. The first few albums are by no means hard rock, they are a defining point of mainstream metal.

Between the Buried and Me are a progressive band who are really hard to classify, and shouldn't even be compared to Metallica, or even be considered what defines modern metal because they don't.

August Burns Red are a cookie cutter metalcore band with some semi-technical guitar work, and odd time changes thrown about. They ooze of Gothenburg influence like nearly every other band of that ilk, which isn't bad, but it's unfortunate that people believe they are the standards of anything.
LOL bring me the horizon are average as the only decent songs they have is medusa and there cover of eyeless

metallica meh doesnt realy cut it for me i like screaming but hey thats where metal pretty much started
Born of Osiris would be better without all the needless breakdowns imo
its what makes it its just phat breakdown after phat breakdown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnWAW6s-0...re=related
knights of the abyss is so insane 90% of the time you cant make out anything theyre screaming
hahaha well ok soo never expected people to be this technical, it totally excites me too talk to people who know what they are talking aboutEee
anyways i tend to be very biased with my music so excuse any of my ignorance
haha what would you guys call bands like blessthefall and a skylit drive?
emocore or post hardcore?xD
This entire thread is the embodiment of why I stopped listening to this kind of music.
