WBO Organized Play Updates June 2024: Own Finish

Hello World Bladers!

This month we will be introducing a new rule for X formats going forward: the Own Finish! For those who missed the proposal thread, in other words, if no contact is made between Beyblades and you self-KO into an Over Finish or Xtreme Finish, it is instead ruled as an "Own Finish" which awards your opponent 1 point instead of 2 (Over) or 3 (Xtreme). The battle is then repeated with the same Beyblades.

This rule was first introduced by the Beyblade Battle Base (B4), the official Takara Tomy Beyblade regulatory body, for their upcoming G2 tournament in Japan at Tobu Zoo on June 15th.

Following the response in the proposal thread and poll, we will be moving forward with implementing this widely popular rule as a default rule in the X format rulebook! However, we also want to give Organizers the flexibility to opt out if they want, so a new Ranked Clause will be introduced alongside these changes to the rulebook.

Here is additional context that guided the Organized Play Team to implement the "Own Finish" rule as a default rule in the X format rulebook:
  • The majority of voters in the poll (57.8%) voted for the change to implemented as part of the default rules.
  • The majority is over half the votes and is greater than "Ranked Clause" (17.2%) and "No preference" (20.3%) combined.
  • When only Organizers' votes are taken into consideration, the split is even more in favor of default rules: Default rules (62.5%) versus "Ranked Clause" (17.5%) and "No preference" (20%).
  • There is almost no opposition to the rule being implemented in any form.

The full changes to the rulebook are listed below:

  • [IMPORTANT] X Format: Own Finish
  • [IMPORTANT] Ranked Clauses Guide: Own Finish Opt Out Clause

X Format: Own Finish

The aim of the "Own Finish" is to make mistakes and self-KOs less punishing. The goal is to ultimately reduce the amount of anticlimatic match endings and improve the enjoyment of matches for everyone involved. This also brings us closer in line with rules from the manufacturer.

The following has been moved to the new Ranked Clause:

Launching Section Wrote:If a Beyblade is launched directly into an Over/Xtreme Zone instead, it is considered to be knocked-out.

The following has been added to the X format rulebook:

Gameplay Appendix: Own Finish Wrote:
  • If a Beyblade is knocked-out into an Over Zone or Xtreme Zone
  • OR is launched directly into an Over Zone or Xtreme Zone
  • AND without making contact with the opposing Beyblade

Then the battle ends, and the opponent receives 1 point. The battle replays with the same Beyblades.

Ranked Clauses: Own Finish Opt Out Clause
The Organized Play Team has decided that it would be appropriate to include a Ranked Clause to give Organizers flexibility to opt out of this new default rule. The new Ranked Clause is the following:

Ranked Clauses Guide Wrote:Own Finish (X Formats)
  • If a Beyblade is launched directly into an Over Zone or Xtreme Zone, it is considered to be knocked-out.
  • If a Beyblade is knocked-out into an Over Zone or Xtreme Zone without making contact with the opposing Beyblade, it is considered an Over Finish or an Xtreme Finish respectively.

Feedback?
Your input is greatly appreciated If you have any feedback on these particular changes, or any questions or suggestions for further adjustments or additions, please post your thoughts below or in the WBO Organized Play Rules thread

Thank you to everyone for your continued support of WBO Organized Play! We appreciate any and all feedback and are always looking to improve and clarify things where possible.
This gets added 2 days after I run it at an event. TWO DAYS😭
So glad for this
i still dont get what the "own finish" is. is it a new win condition?
Knockouts and Xtreme Finishes are both 2 and 3 points respectively, right? If so, then this is a very useful rule. Making No-Contact KOs only worth 1 point is definitely less punishing.

An own finish is where a Bey will land in an over zone or extreme zone of its own accord.
For example, if the participant were to launch their Bey into the stadium and it went into the over pocket immediately without making contact with the opponents Bey, that counts as an "own finish". (You were the cause of the finish on your OWN, not because of the opponent)

An own finish would also count if your bey enters an over pocket or xtreme pocket after going around the stadium but didn't connect with the opponents bey.

Does that help clear things up?

yes. so is this an option to remove this rule distinction? to where it wouldn't be counted if you self KO?
