(Hi all! This is an old report I did after a tournament a couple weeks ago that I decided to post here. I'll be trying to do this with my other tournament runs in the future, and I've got one coming up for an event from yesterday!)
My deck:
Roar Tyranno 5-60H – 8:5 (11:10)
Beat Tyranno 9-60P – 7:7 (11:14)
Talon Ptera 3-60LF – 3:8 (7:10)
(One of the sets didn’t get recorded, so there’s a 3:4 set that didn’t get factored into this)
Roar performed the best out of the three, earning more wins than its prehistoric partners and appearing in the second highest number of rounds. This was my first time using Hexa(or any of these combos together if I’m being honest), and the main matchups it struggled against were Cobalt Dragoon (hits hard & spin stealing) and Knight Mail (big recoil battle to fight for center stage). Gonna look more into launch angles and stalling to see if that helps. I also was considering putting it on a taller ratchet to see if that helps with scraping, but that might just be Hexa making that sound.
Beat Tyranno left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, I think my lack of competitive experience using Point as a bit led to this not seeing the kind of success it could’ve. Not using any specific launch angles/tech contributed to losses too, lining up too evenly with pockets to get beaten. On the other hand, its middling performance makes me think that I should pivot away from Balance or at least have it on something more aggressive like Taper. I can tell that this is supposed to be a good combo, so I’ll dedicate more practice to it without swapping any parts.
Talon Ptera was the weakest link, with only 3 round wins and 8 losses. That said, the points it got were pretty explosive, and in friendlies it was a Burst KO monster. This is another one that I want to chalk up to inexperience and lack of tech, but it also burns stamina so quickly. I’m not used to Attack types completely, so that’s another area to work on.
Overall, I’m not too upset with my first time using this deck and making top 8. Gonna keep practicing with this deck for my next tournament and see how it does before swapping it for something else if I get the urge.
