[DIARY ENTRY BEGIN: 0001]
I didn’t know how to put this in words, but I guess it’s the only way for this to get out, especially with how the government doesn’t let the public know half of what’s going on. I cant explain why but I thought you people, the ones with imaginations may believe what I have to say, no matter how ludicrous the idea might seem to be. If you think this is just a well written story then theres no point in reading it. I wrote this to send you a message. Not everything can be what it seems. I can only really communicate with you guys through this diary as I fear if I try to contact anyone through the web then I may put you in danger.
You know sometimes when things happen in the world that the intelligent people can’t solve, everyone has their own idea? Well just sometimes people don’t hear about the things that are a mystery for just that reason. They think that the people of the world are better kept in the dark. Well just goes to show how wrong that can be.
I’m Josh Jennens and this isn’t a story. This is the true tale of the digimon.
I’m not going to over dramatise the place and time when my adventure started. It started at 7 AM falling out of my bed. “Josh get up, time to get ready for school,†My mum called from the bottom of the stairs, as I staggered to my feet. I knelt over, catching my breath, and then slowly descended down my soft carpeted stair steps. I yawned and stepped down onto the cool tiles in my kitchen. As I walked in I glanced swiftly at the kitchen TV. The bright screen flashed images of an aurora, at least that’s what it looked like, but apparently it had appeared in New York! I don’t know about you but that sort of thing generally doesn’t happen in sunny America! I thought nothing of it though as I sipped my scalding hot tea.
The rain pattered on the concrete pavement as I strolled to my bus stop. My worn leather shoes slapped against the puddles splashing up onto my matte black school trousers. I considered what it would be like to not go to school and just lounge about in my pyjamas. I coughed and carried on my way. The sun was shining and a rainbow broke through the dark grey clouds. The Bus arrived soon after and the groan of the engine as it started up again with us on it was enough to make anyone worry. No-one noticed the flash of yellow flit by the bus window disturbing a nest of birds and causing leaves of the tree to float down in a graceful arc. No-one noticed the girl in the shadow of the bus shelter push something back in her pocket and walk off. And no-one noticed a flash of purple streak down from the sky. Well. Almost no-one.
Thinking about today, as I sat lazily in my cheap plastic school chair, made me wonder if this was all just a very clever prank. But then it was just on too large a scale. It seemed genuinely strange. Well I guess I would have to think more about it when I got home, double science was calling my name, and unfortunately there was no escape…
The drive back from school was just as eventful as the one there. I guess I should explain. Our bus normally stops at 3 stops, one by a restaurant, and one by a part of the village and another by the church. Today though I was going round a friend’s house. Or that was the plan. As I got of the bus I thought I saw a rustle in the bushes but I didn’t think that would be important. As I walked with my friend talking about how boring school was everything seemed normal, the cool breeze brushed against my face and the smell of the local fresh roses aroused my nose. It smelt musty and like scented fruits. When my friend told me to wait where I was, as he ran ahead to pick up a few games, I looked around. Despite this mornings weather it was feeling like summer again.
After my friend had left I lay back in my bed and breathed in, then I heard something. Something far away, distant, like an echo from another world. I shot upright and jumped out of my bed. I rushed outside and looked around. Then up at the sky. A purple flash in the sky alerted my attention. Then purple light flashed down on me and engulfed my vision. Something floated down in front of me but made no sound. Instinctively I reached out and held it, it was ice cold. I recoiled but held on to it. A silhouette of something reptilian appeared outside the light, and then it burst into the light and bared its teeth.
I sat bolt upright in my bed. “What?†I muttered, and then rolled over. My eyes were closed and I figured I must have been dreaming. My eyes flickered open drearily. I saw the hazy image of something in front of me something round at the top and pointed towards the bottom. There was a rectangular square towards the top, filling most of the width, with a metal plate fitted around it. The plate was a grape purple and glinted in the dying light. There were buttons in the centre of the plate, three buttons rounding around a centre button. The part of the object that wasn’t purple was a dazzling white. I held it uncertainly. It was the same size and shape as the object in my dream. I looked at the screen, and on it was the digimon symbol.
As I watched digimon on the TV my mind clicked. This was just like season 3 of tamers, and it dawned on me that if digimon were real than maybe the tamers were too. But just as I thought that there might have been hope I realised that it was an anime, how could takato or Tai be real? It was absurd. But I did wonder how you were meant to get to the digital world. As I thought this I heard chiming and light erupted from the screen of the digivice and something seemed to tear apart the world in front of me. Binary code danced in ribbons out of the portal and emerald flashes of lightning arced across the opening. Before thinking I ran through the rift.
Crashing down on the floor momentarily blinded I heard the faint trickle of water. My eyes adjusted and the searing pain receded. But now the water was louder, like a heard of stampeding wildebeest, crashing through the undergrowth. I felt myself being lifted off the ground and being thrown to the side, grazing along the rough floor. The sound rushed past my left ear and I urged myself to look to the side. A tsunami, as tall and wide as a building had surged effortlessly past smashing through trees and plants leaving a wake of devastation in its path. But who had pushed me? A face was staring down at me, his blue eyes seemed to carry a sense of worry and his brown hair spiked outwards as if he had only just got out of bed. He wore a light blue top that was worn and moon grey shorts. Strangely he wore a pair of yellow goggles on his head, and the light glinted of the lenses. Smiling greatly when he saw I was unharmed, the boy offered his hand. “Hi there, I’m takato and welcome to the digital world!â€
Walking through the digital world was strange. It was different to the human world in a lot of ways. The thick trunks of the native trees were a rich purple-green hue, and the creeping branches formed a woven canopy above my head. The sodden ground squelched my shoes almost got pulled off my feet. The sky was also strange, sunny even though it was officially night time. Then a blanket of darkness was draped over the horizon spreading over my field off vision. As soon as you could say ‘that’s strange’ it swept over me, leaving a chilling wind behind.
I shivered; it was the same arctic chill that had turned my veins to ice when I picked up the digivice. Takato seemed to be used to it though. “It happens every day, here it’s natural†he explained to me as I explored the jungle. Surprisingly the water seemed to have been absorbed into the dense undergrowth, and everything seemed to have gone back to normal, well as normal as it could be in the digital world. “So Takato, how come you’re in the digital world and not the real world?†I asked, genuinely puzzled. He paused and pushed a branch aside. “It’s hard to go back to the real world when there’s so much here that needs fixing. A lot of damage has been done to the digital world and the tamers have to be here to keep it safe.â€
We finally pushed our way through the jungle and trekked on past strange flowers and plants. The smell of sea salt was overpowering and we noticed that the tsunami had carved a path into the ground, and it was an easy way down through the hilly terrain. As we carried on down the steep slope I saw signs of civilization, smoke billowed upwards behind the great pine trees. I wondered who would have the time to build something in the middle of a jungle but what I saw amazed me far more than anything like that could. As we emerged into a clearing of dark long grass I looked up and my jaw dropped. Floating in the space above my head was a jagged cliff area, the dark rock glistening with dripping water that fell into a crystal pool, ripples spreading slowly across the surface. The mountains formed a huge structure suspended in animation, hovering in clusters, roped together with toughly strung bridges. The mountains over the years had been eroded away to reveal a sliver of silver behind it. I guessed that the mountain was actually a cover to stop people knowing it was metal. The bases were endless, spiralling impossibly up in the sky. Takato had already walked halfway up a rope ladder and was motioning for me to follow. Stunned, I clumsily stepped over a branch (nearly tripping over) and put my hand on the coarse fibres. I yanked myself up and stepped up onto the next part of the ladder. After a short amount of time I had entered one of the mountains and my assumption was correct. Inside it wasn’t dank and dingy, but bright and metal glinted from interior lighting. Gazing around I noticed that there was a lot of things happening that would normally defy normality in the real world. People appeared to walk through doors, and digimon walked naturally through the hallways. Things were never going to be the same again.
“So what do you think of the digi-lab then? It’s taken us quite a time to keep it secure. If you like I’ll introduce you to the squad?†Takato spoke softly. I yawned and asked if I could be taken to my bedroom, “This sort of thing wears you out when you don’t expect it. He nodded in an understanding way and ordered for a digimon apparently called Kamemon. He was kind enough and if it wasn’t for the fact he had a shell then I wouldn’t have known that he wasn’t a human. Unfortunately I didn’t have to wait long to find out that not all digimon were fun-loving creatures, and that the casualties of war are not something for the feint-hearted.
