Now that we're clear, I'm going to open with the band Grizzly Bear.

I just got into them very recently, and they sound like no other. Their music style has been classified as psychedelic folk music, which works. Grizzly Bear has two lead vocalists, both tenors with angelic voices. They also use all sorts of instruments in their performances, so it's not typical rock band stuff. I went to their concert last night and it was probably the best one I've ever been to--they're even better live than on CD. But listening to their songs will do you better than anything I write, so here's the first three songs from their newest album Veckatimest. Listen to them in order with headphones on.

Secondly, I'm going to go back into another one of my favorites: Shugo Tokumaru.

Shugo Tokumaru has three albums (Night Piece, L.S.T., Exit) and an EP (Rum Hee) out, and he's been active in the music scene since 2004. His third album, Exit, was regarded as one of the best albums released in 2008. Tokumaru's music often comes out sounding a bit like a children's music class, as he uses hundreds of instruments while recording his albums. Recorders, optigans, even clocks. His voice, though, is what seals the deal. His tenor is beautiful, and often perfectly accompanies a song. Listen to him through headphones too, though it won't be the same unless you hear it on CD.

Evanescense.

Not one of my favorite bands although this is the most talent i've ever seen a band have. Especially the vocalist, Amy Lee. Her vocals are so clear, flowing strong a powerful that i guarantee you will have never heard such a voice. Although her music is controversial, if you put aside that and just listen you will fall in love with the song.

Fleet Foxes is another terrific band that sort of came out of nowhere. Their style is described as baroque pop, but their music sounds like atmospheric autumnal hymns. You're going to hear a lot of harmonies, acoustic guitar, and quaint melodies. Their self-titled album was ranked on Pitchfork as the absolute best album of 2008. You'd really be missing out on a terrific band if you didn't decide to check them out.

My Bloody Valentine was an interesting band notably considered pioneers of the shoegaze genre. They only wrote two albums before going on hiatus for ten years. What you'll hear is layer upon layer of guitars, with dreamy vocals supplementing. Their second album, Loveless, is probably one of my all-time favorites. I don't think I need to tell you that you need to listen to both of these bands with headphones on; it's a part of the experience. Surround yourself in the music.

I seem to remember trying this thread once myself. Anyhow, I've always been a fan of these threads since I love discovering new music (I'm totally digging Grizzly Bear btw Toto. I'm going to be seeing them in November when they tour with Thrice). So here's my contribution:

"Daisy" by Brand New

Brand New has been around for a long time, and most fans of the band claim their previous album, "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" is the definitive album of modern emo/indie music. I'm inclined to agree. Their newest album, "Daisy", just released last week and it shows a much more aggressive side of the band. It took a long time for the record to grow on me, but now that it has I can't stop listening to it. Their music is characterized by a sort of dark, nihilistic viewpoint presented in downtrodden, sullen vocal and lyrical style. If you've ever listened to bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Straylight Run or Taking Back Sunday and enjoyed it, then you absolutely need to pay attention to Brand New.

Dethklok. The cartoon Deth Metal band, featured in Adult Swim's "Metalocolypse"

New album yesterday, DethAlbum II.

Anyway, these guys have some great Deth Metal. It's defiantly, on another note, not made to be taken seriously. With song titles like "Briefcase Full of Guts" or "Thunderhorse" (which will be familiar to GH2 fans) you can tell that Brendon Small, the man behind much of Dethklok in the show, and lead singer of what was described by him as the live "Cover Band" when Dethklok goes on tour, loves the genre, but his humor shines through in each track.
With that said, even a metal junkie can enjoy some of the harder songs, such as my recommendations, below.

Every six seconds was one of the albums that made Saliva special. This is an awesome rock band for people who like singing in their head. They show emotion in their songs alot. Their lyrics are really understanding. I recommend this to anyone who likes rock/metal songs.

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park

OK, I know Linkin Park is way over used. But some of their less popular songs I like, because of the awesome rapping and rhymths they use. They also show alot of emotion in their songs, just like saliva. This is one of my favourites because it was the first rock album I ever got and it inspired me to listen to more Rock. I recommend this to people who like Hard Rock.

I've been listening to a whole lot of Chiptune lately. To anyone who doesn't know what Chiptune is it's music created using sounds from old consoles like Famicon and Nintendo Gameboy. It's kinda dancey and not what I normally go for at all, but it's just got such a nostalgic element to it that I can't help but like it. Alot of it sounds the same and has no originality between the different artists.

My favorite Artists and songs are:

The good thing about '8bit' artists is that the scene is untapped so all the music is free at the moment (get in there whilst you can!) There's a big social sharing site called '8bitcollective' (google it) where you can look up pretty much all the artists to date and get their music for free. It's even worth looking in just to see there fantastic Gameboy mods and live show set-up (tables full of games consoles I tell ya!)

It's quite easy to make this music actually, all you need to do is buy an LSDJ or Nanoloop cartridge for your gameboy and you can make your on tunes on the go. There's also emulators of them aswell. I'm using a program called FamiTracker atm and it's really good to create those nostalgic beats ,it uses a megadrive and Famicon sound chip or something.

Primary Colours by the Horrors

The first word that comes to my mind when I think about this album is the word fresh. It just has such a unique feeling about it that I love. This is their second disc and they really stepped up to the plate on this one. Has a great blend of unconventional song structures and melodies that drag you in. It's a cd that I got into instantly, but it still definitely has a slow burn. There's more than enough meat to keep you interested for a long time. There are just so many different elements to this record. I haven't been this excited about a recent band in a while.

To sell people on the Fleet Foxes idea, I'll post a performance they did for Blogotheque. Blogotheque takes artists to undisclosed locations and has them play a song. For example, they'll have a band maybe play in a bathroom, basketball court, or a closet. If you search around, you can find more of their videos--including some from Grizzly Bear. Was their breakthrough second album.
Less experimental than their first attempt (yet more polished in many ways), their second album is an overture of violins, guitars, pianos, horns, synthesizers, blending folk with pop, indie, rock, easy listening, fired with the blistering cacophony of a harrowing sea shanty at points.
The Decemberists leap from genre to genre, yet their songs blend seamlessly with an air of finesse and craft (both musically and lyrically) that you'll be hard pressed to find in recent musical outings.
From the soft and melancholic, sweeping tones of past days in "I was meant for the stage", to the bustling tale of "The Chimbley Sweep".
I'd recommend this as a way to get in to the sensational band that The Decemberists truly are.

'Common Dreads' by Enter Shikari

Enter Shikari are an experimental band from England, Hertfordshire. 'Common Dreads' is their second album, the first being 'Take to the Skies'. They include a variation of styles in their music, even though they have a classic band set up. Lots of guitar filters/effects and synthesisers are used to make their music sound unique and interesting. I think anyone could get into this band, whatever their musical preferences. Also, check them out live; they're awesome! (:

MGMT - Congratulations (and Oracular Spectacular, and Metanoia while you are at it)

This is our generations GREAT rock band. Like Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and Pink Floyd before them MGMT mixes psychedelic rock with tinges of folk, punk, and pop into a beautiful and layered package with Congratulations. The band really shows what they can do with their sophomore album! Every song is great in it's own right (especially Siberian Breaks, It's Working, I Found a Whistle, and Flash Delirium) but you can pass over the filler songs "Brian Eno" and "Lady Dada's Nightmare".

MGMT's first major album, Oracular Spectacular, is much more straightforward (but still psychedelically awesome) than Congratulations. Every song on this album is a keeper, but you should really pay attention to Of Birds, Moons, and Monsters, Electric Feel, and Pieces of What.

In between their two major releases the band released an epic 13-minute EP call Metanoia. This EP is one song, similar in style to Siberian Breaks. It is broken up into 8 or 9 sections, all of which with their own unique key (while all have a similar feel). This is by far MGMT's greatest work, and should be played back to back with Siberian Breaks. Andrew (lead singer\guitar) has stated that Siberian Breaks is an extension of Metanoia

Trust me, all three of those are worth buying. MGMT does not disappoint I missed them at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX :\ I wasn't gonna pay $90 to see MGMT and Weird Al plus a lot of bands I don't care for.
