these are the one's i've played, lol. I recommend any of them.. but a great game to start out with is Counter Strike Source.

It has probably some of the best zombie mods IMO, especially zombie escape. There are so many servers to play on, and many different types of gameplay (surf, jail break, death race, VIP, 'fun' servers, climb, any of the zombie mods, ontop of all the DE and CS maps)
There are also 64 player servers..which isn't really a big feature in PC gaming anymore I guess, but its alot of fun. You can play against somewhat intelligent bots to practice, and there are thousands of ways to mod your game (skins and such).

It's a really good game to start off on. :]

OH and its only around $19.99.
Im thinking of geting bioshock and orange box on steam what do you guys think its like $50 all together.
Both are amazing.

If you have not played them, get them without a second thought.
Yeah i already bought orange box im installing hl2 now it will be my first time touching half life. Always been interested tho.
First time I played Half life was Half life 2 back when it came out. Never touched the first one. Tried to pick that one up later, but never really liked it. The second one was just miles ahead.

There's actually a remake of Half Life 1 in production..not by valve, but it looks really promising. I think it's called Black Mesa Source. HL1 was a fun game but the last time I played it was 5 years ago, I imagine the charm has pretty much worn off.

But yeah Maz, good choices. Half Life 2 has held up pretty well over the years.
btw if you get bored/sick/whatever of half-life 2 or episode one just skip to episode two - prob my favorite single player fps ever
also some of the cheaper smaller games on pc are amazing

sam & max episodes
tales of monkey island episodes
peggle (peggle deluxe, etc.)
peggle nights
plants vs. zombies
etc.
Yeah i spent like 3 hours with half life 2 already i like it a lot its nice. I think im just gonna play through the whole series. Portal is good too. Little easy though...

Portal is easy at first but it gets sooooo much more complicated in the later levels.
Portal is amazing, I think you'll like it a lot by the end Wink
no cake/still alive jokes allowed in this thread
^it's a lie.

I would reccomend playing the first half life first, it'll feel sort of underwhelming otherwise. Or you could wait for the black mesa mod.

(on topic World of Goo is an a+ indie game, you can get the demo off steam and buy it in a normal pc game store.
I suggest you don't game on PC.

Seriously, run Crysis on High Res and make your friends tear up. Bioshock is cool, as is Mass Effect. And I can't talk about PC games without mentioning Sam & Max.

Okay so heres the deal. If i where to buy all the games you guys suggested id be in debt lol. So heres what im thinking and let me know what you all think.

I already bought orange box and i got diablo 2. I think they should hold me down for a while seeing as i don't game much. Now im thinking to get the following when they come out.

Diablo 3
Starcraft 2
Command and Conquer 4
I played Diablo 1, but I never played Diablo 2 XD

I need to get around to that.
I would have said Orange box too Wink

If you can wait do this.
BUT I think Half-Lifeis totally stilll worth playing! Graphically it hasn't aged well but the game play is still so solid as are the puzzles. [shame on you khel Unhappy LOL jk]

SIMS 3. am gonna get it soon. am so exited. i love building houses Grin
Damn, Blizzard (or is it Bethesda? I can't remember...) announced Diablo 3? Really? I haven't played that series since it was on PSone. Pure nostalgia all of a sudden. I also wouldn't expect it to come out this year. I can also see StarCraft 2 slpping to 2010 if it hasn't already.
