MFB: Limited :: READ ME BEFORE MAKING A NEW THREAD!!

Hey everybody! We want to get discussion on this new format going as soon and as smoothly as possible, and following these guidelines will help tremendously toward that goal!

If you want to make a new thread for one of the following:
  • A part discussion thread, or
  • A thread for a new custom
Then please read these tips so that the thread is as good as possible! Thank you!!

New Part Discussion Threads

If you want to post a new thread to discuss how a part performs in Limited, make sure to follow these steps before you post it!

  1. First, make sure the thread doesn't already exist; if it does, post in there instead!
  2. If the thread does not exist, it's totally fine for you to make one as long as you have a good number of test results to start discussion off with! Please don't make Part Discussion threads without test results!
  3. If the thread doesn't exist and you have test results, you can make a new thread! Be sure to put [LTD] at the front of the thread title to distinguish between your new discussion thread and any old ones we might have for Standard. Here is an example of a good thread title:
    "[LTD] Duo (Metal Fury) Discussion"
Do note that not every part needs a new thread; for example, while GB145 and C145 could use threads since they are important for defense in Limited but not for Standard, parts like D and WD don't need threads because they serve the exact same purpose in both Standard and Limited. We really only want threads for parts that perform notably different in Limited.

Posting Tests Involving Banned Parts

We talk about parts that are banned in Limited a lot on this board, but more importantly, we frequently post tests involving banned parts during discussions on whether something should be banned or not, etc.

Since it can be confusing to newcomers to see tests being posted about parts that are supposed to be banned, it has been recommended that we change the font color of the banned parts used in test results to RED to more easily identify them as being banned.

This is not an absolute requirement/rule (as in, nobody will get in trouble for forgetting to do this), but it would be very much appreciated if we all tried to do this from now on to hopefully make things more understandable.

(thank you to TheBlackDragon for this recommendation!)

New Combo Threads

When you want to post a combo on the WBO, by far the best way for everybody to tell how well the custom performs is to provide test results against competitive customs. Usually that means testing against Beyblades from the Competitive Customs List, but unfortunately we don't have one of those yet for Limited because the format is so new! So, we are providing this list of customs that would be useful to test against so that we can get the ball rolling on making testing threads!

Again, this is not the Competitive Customs List, but is rather a list of customs that are competitive enough to be helpful to test against until we get an official list to work with. This list is by no means exhaustive; there are many, many more customs that are probably competitive than just this, but these are a good starting point.

Helpful Beyblades to Test Against Wrote:ATTACK
  • (MF(-H)) Gravity Perseus (85/D125/R145) (RF/R2F/LRF)
  • (MF(-H)) Lightning L-Drago (85/CH120/R145) (RF/LRF)
  • (MF(-H)) Screw (Pisces/Horogium/Uranus) (85/R145) (RF/R2F)
DEFENSE
  • MF(-H) Earth ____ (85/GB145/TH170/230) (CS/RSF)
  • MF(-H) Libra (85/GB145) (CS/RSF)
STAMINA
  • Earth ____ (85/W145) (WD/EWD)
  • Earth ____ (TH170/230) (D/SD)
  • Burn ____ (85/W145) (WD/EWD)
  • Burn ____ (TH170/230) (D/SD)
  • Virgo (85/W145) (WD/EWD)
  • Virgo (TH170/230) (D/SD)

If you've never posted test results before, here are some BEGINNER'S steps to follow for what customs to test against:

If you want to post a new attack custom, follow these steps:
  1. Test at least one of the listed Attack customs against some of the listed Defense customs so that we have something to compare your custom's test results to.
  2. Test your custom against at least one of the listed Stamina types just to make sure the custom is doing its job.
  3. Test your custom against a bunch of the listed Defense customs; these will be the most important tests for posting a new attacker.
  4. If you want, test your custom against one or more of the listed Attack types to see how it fares in an Attack vs. Attack battle.

If you want to post a new defense custom, follow these steps:
  1. Test at least one of the listed Attack customs against some of the listed Defense customs so that we have something to compare your custom's test results to.
  2. Test your custom against a bunch of the listed Attack customs; these will be the most important tests for posting a new defender.
  3. If you want, test your custom against one or more of the listed Defense types to see how it fares in a Defense vs. Defense battle.

If you want to post a new stamina custom, follow these steps:
  1. Test your custom against at least one of the listed Defense types just to make sure the custom is doing its job.
  2. Test your custom against a bunch of the listed Stamina customs; these will be the most important tests for posting a new endurance Beyblade.
Since it would be good for people to post some new Part Discussions to discuss how things perform in Limited, I added some guidelines on how to post threads like that; check them out please! Grin
TheBlackDragon suggested this, and it sounds like a great idea to make discussions about banned parts less confusing to newcomers, so I'm going to add it in here as a recommendation!

(Jan. 24, 2014  7:05 PM)TheBlackDragon Wrote: I was reading the official ban list discussion, and questions came up about using tournament illegal parts in testing. The point was raised that such testing could cause confusion about the ban list itself, causing readers to assume that said parts are actually legal.

I have a proposal that I think will work pretty well in terms of avoiding confusion, and we can use it for a long time to come, since we'll most likely be testing illegal parts relatively frequently when updating the ban list

When posting test results, rather than like this:

MF-H Gravity Perseus R145R2F vs. MF-H Libra BD145RDF
Libra launched first on all launches. Perseus in left spin.
Perseus: wins, 6/20 (All KO)
Libra: wins, 14/20 (12 OS, 2 KO)
MF-H Gravity Perseus R145R2F win rate: 30%

We post them like this:

MF-H Gravity Perseus R145R2F vs. MF-H Libra BD145RDF
Libra launched first on all launches. Perseus in left spin.
Perseus: wins, 6/20 (All KO)
Libra: wins, 14/20 (12 OS, 2 KO)
MF-H Gravity Perseus R145R2F win rate: 30%

NOTE: These test results are examples. They are not actually valid.

Highlighting the illegal part(s) we're testing in red. That way, it will be obvious that those parts are illegal, while we can still outline which of the other parts in the combination are legal. The red color will also serve as a sort of beacon for people skimming results that that set of tests contains illegal parts. Then, if they want to, they can just skip over it without having to stop and read it to make sure.

Just thought it might help avoid confusion, since the subforum will likely be cluttered with testing of illegal parts. This way we can point them out and tell them apart from tournament valid testing easily.

I updated the OP with this guideline, check it out!
