Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is quickly jogging up to be my favourite Game on Wii
it's so genuinely unnerving and tense, it's what I really want out of a Survival Horror game.
The fact that there is no combat is a huge point, it brings a lot of tension and fear when enemies are truly lethal threats that you can't dispatch, you can only hope to escape.
I truly feel unnerved when walking around the desolate streets of Silent Hill, walking into a shop and hearing a small child crying, but nobody is near. The atmosphere is chilling (When walking through the high school, I actually shivered at a few points)
Using the Remote pointer to aim the flashlight is really nice, it gives a very 'real' feeling to the game. I also like the motion controls when you have to face the enemies.
Another huge point is the profiling system, When you start the game, you're given a psych test and those answers determine how the game plays out. After each "section", another test is given, which then will change even more parts of the game.
As you go through the game, it keeps track of how long you linger on certain images, how you approach puzzles, if you leave doors open/close them, etc. and changes the game based on that.
I've seen a couple videos online of the first hour or so of the game, and NONE of the videos showed the exact same events as I had played. They all showed very different outcomes.
There are multiple endings, each with very different storylines, and that gives me a great replay value.
I honestly didn't expect this game to be this great, I played Silent Hill 2 before, but that was my only time dabbling in the series. When I read all the good reviews for Shattered Memories, I had to see for myself how it was.
All I know is, it has given me some legitimate scares whilst playing.
in short, this game is amazingly atmospheric, with great replay value due to the fact that no two games will play the exact same. This is how I want Survival Horror games to be like.
End huge spiel about SHM.
