The Wii version of Dead Space is officially an abortion.
A first person, on-rails shooter? Really?!
Ugggh carp Wii.
I've never played the original, but even though it is on rails, I still think it could be a good game. The recent House of the Dead: Overkill has gotten favourable reviews, so I have hope that this will turn out just as well.
Still though, that doesn't explain why they chose to make it on-rails.
No.
Just no.
Don't even try to stick up for this. Don't do it. I will destroy any argument you make.
You're making it sound as if you are sure it will be a horrible game, which is something you just can't prove ... That being said, it could turn out to suck, but I'm just saying to keep an open mind.
And like I said, I haven't played the original, but on-rails shooters can work well on the Wii.
You're right, I'm pretty sure this is going to be a horrible game. I can't prove it, but that doesn't mean I don't believe it.
On-rails shooters may work on Wii, but Dead Space depends on a slow rate of movement and absolutely relies on precision to take down your enemies. Oftentimes you have to stop completely to aim at the different enemies limbs, as dismemberment is the key to taking them down. How on Earth are you supposed to do that when you can't even control the character's movement? The game wasn't really ever scary before, but I imagine it will be even less scary now since you will basically be herded along, and I'm sure the game will be full of nothing but cheap monster closets since there's really no other way they'll be able to frighten players.
All of that aside, its a prequel, with a new character in a different setting. Maybe that will somehow save the game from being terrible, but I'm more than willing to bet it will work in reverse. Most of Dead Space takes place in claustrophobic hallways on a ship where you are essentially the only human being alive.
With this new game they are basically neutering the survival-horror aspect entirely and transforming it into an action game -- that may not sound like a bad thing, but I've played through Dead Space and I loved its incredibly tense atmosphere. For me that's what made the game so great and I'm really worried that that is going to be lost in this new Wii game.
