Here's an idea of mine. I must apologize for the lousy drawing (ms paint 
) but you'll get the idea.

The idea is for the launcher to catapult the blade into the arena.
The part marked with number 2 is a strong spring mechanism. So when you pull the ripcord towards yourself the spring will allow a slight motion backwards and will return to it's original place once you stop pulling the cord. It would launch the blade forward.
The part marked with 1 is a tilting mechanism. So you can adjust the launching angle. This, combined with the spring mechanism, would do a sliding shoot for you.
The launcher itself would have to be modified to fit the construction.
