Wall Wedge is a strange bit to be released with Phoenix Flare. The core philosophy here is to have the bey sit in the center of the stadium, unmoving and tanking x-dashes, while the walled edge provide the stability needed to recover. But with Phoenix Flare being so ridiculously tall, the stock combo kinda just constantly bursts on its own and doesn't do much else. The last time I tested it on Phoenix Rudder with mixed results, so this time I'll swap out the blade instead. There are only a few blades that can sit in the middle of the stadium to tank x-dashes and not get pocketed, and for me, Mummy Curse would be my pick.
Being a blade with plastic underneath metal, Mummy Curse shares the same weakness as Leon Crest, being too top heavy to compete in stamina battles. Unlike Leon Crest, however, Mummy Curse's gimmick actually works to cushion hits, it has a more rounded profile, and it has the weight to sit in the center to actually tank x-dashes over and over. The plastic underneath also cushions most impacts from low-height attackers. The 1-50 ratchet is chosen to balance out the weight from the protrusion by aligning it with the opposite end, giving Mummy Curse more stability as well as reducing the height that Wall Wedge has by default. Wall Wedge also keeps Mummy Curse stable throughout the match, and allows it to see out the late game, even against high stamina attack types.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Wizard Rod 1-60 H
0 wins, 20 losses (20 spin finishes)
Remarks: The counter form on Mummy Curse works so well at dampening hits that it's basically an auto-lose against Rod because Rod has to be hit hard and destabilized early for a bey with lower stamina to counter it. Next test.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Shark Scale 1-70 LR
13 wins (13 spin finishes), 7 losses (3 spin finishes, 1 over finish, 3 xtreme finishes)
Remarks: Having a 65% win rate against the #2 meta beyblade is a very good return. The counter form helps chip away at Shark Scale's stamina and destabilizes it, while the plastic blade comes into contact with Shark Scale to dampen its hits.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Shark Scale 1-60 J
11 wins (10 spin finishes, 1 xtreme finish), 9 losses (4 spin finishes, 2 over finishes, 2 burst finishes, 1 xtreme finish)
Remarks: Shark Scale on Jolt has more stamina and can ratchet snipe better, so there were more burst finishes and spin finishes conceded. The win rate is still 55%, which is slightly more than a tossup. I am happy with this result so far.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Phoenix Wing 3-60 R
13 wins (13 spin finishes), 7 losses (3 spin finishes, 1 over finish, 1 burst finish, 2 xtreme finishes)
Remarks: Phoenix Wing can sometimes x-dash cleanly into Mummy Curse's blade with the counter protrusion on the other side and unable to dampen the impact, so Mummy Curse can't always deflect the hit, but this is still relatively uncommon.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Aero Pegasus 3-60 R
14 wins (14 spin finishes), 6 losses (4 spin finishes, 1 burst finish, 1 xtreme finish)
Remarks:The pocket hopping ability of 1-50 did save Mummy Curse a couple of times. Aero just didn't really have enough stamina to overpower a Mummy Curse with enhanced stability from Wall Wedge.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Pegasus Blast Heavy 3-60 K
14 wins (14 spin finishes), 6 losses (4 spin finishes, 1 over finish, 1 xtreme finish)
Remarks: Very similar to the Aero Pegasus fight, Mummy Curse's stability with Wall Wedge means that Pegasus Blast's downsmash attacks were straight up nullified.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Cobalt Dragoon 5-60 E
3 wins (2 spin finishes, 1 over finish), 1 draw, 16 losses (14 spin finishes, 2 burst finishes)
Remarks: Mummy Curse cannot counter Cobalt Dragoon's spin stealing, and with its win condition locked down, it gets steamrolled very often.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Meteor Dragoon 7-70 L
6 wins (6 spin finishes), 3 draws, 11 losses (6 spin finishes, 1 over finish, 3 burst finishes, 1 xtreme finish)
Remarks: Meteor's dual threat of attack and stamina absorption does overwhelm Mummy Curse a lot of the time, and Mummy Curse can't restabilize itself very well because the left spinning opponent does not push back against it when it begins to tilt.
Mummy Curse 1-50 WW vs Glory Valkyrie FF
12 wins (11 spin finishes, 1 over finish), 8 losses (2 spin finishes, 2 over finishes, 2 burst finishes, 2 xtreme finishes)
Remarks: Very difficult fight against Glory Valkyrie, it hits very low so sometimes Mummy Curse gets burst finished or knocked out. But it's still nice to have a 60% win rate.
