Hey, guys. I am trying to decide what to buy for Christmas. I can't choose between the DSi or the PSP go. Can you guys help?
get the dsi it is much better
What Majin said.
The PSP Go requires you to go buy online, you have to set up your Visa and such.
Too much of a hassle IMO.
As someone who owns both, the DSi is the regret. Neither one is perfect, and both have severe flaws.

However, assuming you own a UMD based PSP, and a regular DS, you shouldn't buy either. The DS's true successor in the 3DS comes out in March, and every other week we hear news of a PSP successor.

Hello PlayStation Network $20, and $50 cards.
Can you list what specific games you're interested in? It makes no sense to have to choose between two handhelds without caring about the game libraries of each handheld.

Also, if you don't already have a PSP and decide on the PSPGo, I recommend getting the regular PSP instead since it has a lot more games available than the Go(iirc).
Well I guess it depends on what kind of games/graphics you like.
Personally I prefer the older model of the PSP than the GO.
But I downloading games for GO seems like a bother unless you have good internet.
Whereas DS games are 100MB max ?
it really does depend on what games you like or dislike.

in the end i would say the DSI is better. Truthfuly, the PSP sales have never been as good as they once were, but think of it this way, Nintendo is pretty much the "king of all handhelds" From the Game & Watxh to the Gameboy to today's DS systems, Nintendo has the most expierience with handhelds. In addition, the DS systems tend to have 2 types of games-unique games, and then downgraded wii games. For the PSP, you have alot ofthe downgraded PS3/2 games, and not as many unique games as the DS systems. In addition, the DS systems are much more interactive because of the touch screen, and the new marketplace allows for tons of cool games, vids, etc to be added, and it is all much cheaper and less of a hassel than the PSP marketplace

on the other end of the spectrum, graphcs are great for the PSP, consodering it is only a handheld. and while it is more expensive than the DSI as of now, it is still a good handheld.

overall, the DSI is a better choice, but if i where you i would wait for that 3DS. and dont buy it right away. when it comes out go to gaming sites for reviews and such of its preformance. its brand new ideas like these that always have a few tweaks that could easily be fixed upon its release to the public.

good luck in making your decesion. hope this helps
LeonTempest, I think you should actually try to use the PlayStation Store once before saying anything about it. Especially in comparison to the DSiWare store, it's not even a contest. The DSiWare store has two noteworthy games, and an archanicly slow infrastructure that's terrible to navigate. Where as the PlayStation Store offers many major UMD Legacy releases, along with some pretty stellar PlayStation Store exclusive titles like Patchwork Heroes, and No Heroes Allowed. Not to mention a fairly easy to navigate design that. actually. feels. like. a. professional. marketplace.
My vote= wait till next year for 3ds.
It also depends what games you plan on playing, online connection, and like TO said, PSN
buy the DSi or wait till the 3d like what fisherman said

man you can be a little bit biased when it comes to the Sony point of view lol. i did mention pros and cons to both sides.

in regards to the marketplaces, i never said anything about the tyoes if games avaliable, justtthe accesibility and interface of it all

i will say this: the PSP marketplace is definatly more organized compared to the DSI marketplace. however the DSI marketplace will always do better sale wise for one particular reason-Nostalgia. Nintendo has been in the gaming world waaay longer than SONY, and there are plenty of older out of production games that Nintendo is bringing back through the Wii and DSI marketplaces. With the PSP doesnt have this just yet, or atleast not to such a degree, as they have not been selling games as long as Nintendo
But i will agree with To's other post-wait for the 3DSI. its going to be cheaper, less of a hassel, and not constantly changing for no reason
I can't really say much between you and To but it is only a matter of time to be grown out (Nintendo) Yes when i was 9 I was happy for the DS!!! But as i got older,Modern Warfare and Call of duty,Assains Creed and Bad Company...They all made sense. I don't think the graphics of the Nintendo will compete with Sony.Oh yay,StarFox.That could mean a lot for a 11 yr old kid but then a 15 yr old.Oh yay.Call of Duty Black Ops. My facebook wall is filled with people excited for Black Ops. They were about 15 or 16 yrs old so....Depends on you i guess Uncertain You can't let a beyblading Forum make a descision on something really expensive (besides Vulcan Horseus GET IT).Look at some new games coming out for each and make a descision. At least thats how i would approach it.
Hope this helps

Yeah, I don't try to hide my Sony slant, it's actually in my profile. However, my slant doesn't blind me from seeing when the grass is greener on the other side, and when it isn't. In the case of online marketplaces, the grass is pretty green on this side compared to Nintendo.

You mention nostalgia, the problem with that is in the context of the current subject. The subject is in regards to the Nintendo DSi, which has the DSiWare online marketplace. That DSiWare marketplace doesn't allow users to access a Virtual Console like the Nintendo Wii has. There's few items that can be referred to as nostalgic on the Nintendo DSiWare service. In fact, there's really only Shantae 2 (which about 5 people could actually be nostalgic for), Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2, and the likes of Doctor Mario. None of those are particularily nostalgia inducing titles. Especially compared to the PlayStation Network for the PSP. The PSN for PSP has access to almost the entire range of PSone Classics. This line includes titles such as Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot among many others. Those in other territories get to experience even more nostalgia, as the PSP is compatible with NeoGeo, and Turbogfx releases. That trio is cross compatible with PSP and PS3, which allows one purchase to be used on both devices. A pretty cool feature that Nintendo hasn't touched (although as it stands, Nintendo's current online marketplaces don't have the ability to do this).

As for the 3DS (there is no "i" in the title), you have some wrong information. Japanese launch price for the 3DS is equivalent to about $300, and will likely launch at $250 in the US. The DSi's current price is $150, with the PSPgo ringing up $200.

But we've gotten very far away from helping the original poster. Assuming he/she owns a PSP (their avatar is that of a Patapon, a franchise that has appeared on no device outside of the PSP), they should stick with that. Same goes for if they own a DS. Neither the DSi or the PSPgo offer complete game changers that makes them hands down better than their predacessors. Although each one has very unique benefits, those benefits are outweighed by the fact they both will have successors that'll likely launch next year.
I've been considering buying a PSP Go lately myself, so I'm interested to see where this thread goes.

I don't own a PSP at all, and while I'm really not too keen on being limited to just the games available in the PS Store, I'm much less keen on having to carry around a bunch of bulky UMDs. I also like the smaller, easily portable size of the Go. I'm also not sure if the Go's PC software will work on my Mac, but I know you can download stuff directly to the system itself, so I'm not too worried about that.

The one thing that's really kept me from "taking the plunge" on it is really just the price. $200 is still too much in my opinion, especially for what you're getting. I heard Best Buy is doing a Black Friday deal on them for $150 here in the US, but I'm not about to go braving the Black Friday insanity for that. lol
Actually, that $150 deal was this passed weekend.

As for MediaGo, you're right. As it stands it isn't compatible with Mac OSs.
In my opinion you should get the nintendo dsi or wait for the 3ds. My reasoning is as follows. I have gotten a psp (not the psp go) and regret it. It was a great system but it had major flaws. First of all, it was the newest model before the psp go and the wifi never worked. More importantly is that when I charged it to the max and played it, IT WOULD RUN OUT OF BATTERY IN 10 TO 20 MINUTES. I will now tell some flaws of the dsi. The camera isn't that great. It is not that strong so that IT WILL BREAK IF YOU DROP IT A COUPLE OF TIMES and it is not any water resistant at all.
dude i had both the psp go was terribe the normal one is better and the dsi is good to but wait for the 3ds its coming out soon

dang urs had major issues mine is fine
dsi but get DsiXl much better u can even go on this website on it
Get the regular Psp. It's much more better than the Go. The PSPGo to me was a big fail. It was 6 years to late. i think that downloadable games are what should've been done back in 2004/2005. But now in 2010 the PSP 3000,2000, or even 1000 have essentialy the same capabilities that the Go has. The only thing it's better at is it's size which would target younger people.

Besides the Regular PSP's are like the 1000 are crazy cheap ($90-150) You definetily will get your money's worth! And those things are built to last. I have an original PSP 1001 from 2004 and I'm happy to say it's still running fine today. (The PSP 2000's and 3000's are thinner and more breakable.)

P.S. Why is today's children so addicted to blood and gore/violence games!
the DSI is way better i know i have one
