Um..this is Actually really random, but how did beyblades really come around?
R they like modern versions of toys from the past or something?

They're based off of the Japanese spinning top, "beigoma". Beigoma was the first to incorporate "battling" amongst each other. I think its origins trace back to China though.

Not to be confused with normal "koma", which was designed to merely spin, and not battle.
