We will build the teams onsite. We will follow the process highlighted below to create fair teams and promote competition.
As describe below, we will sort the players from highest to lowest by their BRs.
- The top 12 players by BR will become team captains.
- The middle 12 players by BR will get into a "hat draw" and get assigned to teams randomly.
- And the last 12 will assigned chronologically from lowest to highest to teams. For example, the player with the lowest BR gets assigned to the team captain with the highest BR. The players with second to last BR gets assigned to the captain with the 2nd best BR.
This format is a lot different than traditional Swiss and single battles. It involves 2 separate points tracking simultaneously. We will track points for the team as a whole and also individual matches for your personal BR.
Each team will have 3 players were one of them will serve as the captain. He or She is responsible for informing judges of the team's decisions in secret.
Before each match, the team has 2 minutes to determine the order in which they will play their sets, which is communicated to the judge by the team captain. Once both teams have done so, the judge announces the first set's pairing and the match begins.
Sets are best-of-5 as usual, but individual round wins will count towards your BR. After all three sets are played, the team with the most cumulative rounds won wins the match.
Let's use the table above to explain the process in a narrative way.
Player 1 won over Player 2: These individual matches will count towards your rankings (BR) in WBO just as if you were playing individual matches in preliminary rounds in Swiss tournaments. Even if your team wins or lose.
Player 1 won 3 rounds in this match, these means TEAM A now have 3 cumulative rounds in their pockets while TEAM B has 2.
Official score up to this point is 3 - 2 for Team A.
Player 3 vs 4 is the same scenario as the first match. Player 3 won over Player 4.
Official score up to this point is 6 - 4 for TEAM A.
Now we go to the last battle between Player 5 & 6. As you can see Player 6 came in hot and won 3 - 0 over Player 5. These puts the team score 7 - 6 to give TEAM B the victory.
Using this same example, if everything stayed the same, but Player 5 would have won 1 round in the last battle, it would have caused a tie to 7 - 7. In this case, each team will select one blader to represent it in a tiebreaker match, which is told to the judge by the team captain.
GREAT TO KNOW: There is NO RULE on using same parts among team members. Is not that great? Have fun!
