Which genre? There are so many answers for that question.
The Law of Ueki was a good one from the mid/early 2000's that is similar to My Hero Academia, but I don't believe it achieved the same level of popularity. Revolutionary Girl Utena was my favorite for many years. It was thoughtful shojo anime that leaned more avant garde than sugary sweet.
Most members of this forum hadn't even been conceived by their parents during the run of Ranma 1/2. That was the big beloved anime of the 1990's.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a nice one to watch. It's a bit old though so the art isnt amazing.

Sports anime- haikyuu, Beyblade (yes it's considered a sports anime and is in that genre though not widely accepted)
Regular- my hero academia, fairy tail, fmab
Unpopular opinion- I've watched the first 2 seasons, and I loved Tokyo ghoul √A more than season one. Not the opening tho.
