I would find it fascinating if someone could have a nightmare while being in control.

It's called a nightmare for a reason, if you could control a nightmare it takes out the scariness you receive when in the dream.

Yeah, half the people that just said they lucid dream all the time, nice lying skills. Sorry but ive been trying for 8 years for several reasons. I find it extremely hard to believe that they do.
If I could control my dreams, I'd be extremely happy. If I could control my nightmares, I'd be ecstatic.
@Ultramarine Yeah. I suppose it is.

my worst nightmare

RE: Nightmares. - DrPepsidew - Jul. 29, 2013

That seems traumatic in the very least. I haven't slept yet but when I do *Dos Equis XD* I'll probably be able to give an update Tongue_out

RE: Nightmares. - Ryukiba - Jul. 29, 2013

What's lucid dreaming?

RE: Nightmares. - TentacleZooka - Jul. 29, 2013

Here's my nightmare: (Click to View)
Now for seriousness: Whenever I have a nightmare, I just curl into a ball and jerk my head backwards(In the dream), then I'm awake. Reality can sometimes respond to what you do in a dream so I think when I curl into a ball in my dreams, I do so in reality too. I'm guessing that my brain turns back on once I do this by "becoming alert" that my head just jerked backwards. Idk if this will work for you all, but it works for me so you can try it out if you want to. That skill got me away from that horrible Dragooon nightmare.

To be aware that you are in a dream, what is happening in the dream, and often to be able to control the dream

RE: Nightmares. - Ryukiba - Jul. 29, 2013

Is this rare or something? Because I do this quite frequently.

RE: Nightmares. - DrPepsidew - Jul. 30, 2013

It varies person to person but in most cases, yes. Grats Tri ^-^
Can't give you guys another, haven't slept yet XD

RE: Nightmares. - Thunder Dome - Jul. 30, 2013

I can't remember a lot of my dreams (especially nightmares), but I remember one

So I was walking around the neighborhood and saw a creepy ventriloquist dummy staring at me with a knife and creepily said "Hi Adam". I quickly ran home and checked my room. And saw the doll again. And once again he said "Hi Adam". Really scared I went to the bathroom and closed the door. The light switch wouldn't turn on, but I was still like "I'm save". Then I heard something and saw something on the toilet. It was the doll and once again told me hi. I broke open the door and ran outside again. Some how I ended up at a mansion and everyone room I looked in the doll was there. Then he chased me through the mansion. I finally put him in the mansions furnance and watched him burn. I walked out the door all happy and then heard something say "Hi Adam". Turned around and saw the doll, with a scary look on his face. Then I woke up. This creeped me out for a while after waking up.

RE: Nightmares. - *Ginga* - Jul. 30, 2013

Holy carp that is scary.

I don't often have nightmares but when I do there are guns and people I care about getting killed. No biggie.

My loved ones are tortured and they enjoy me watching it to make me feel like I wasn't enough.
No biggie
HERE'S MY UPDATE: Okay so I mentioned earlier that I've become wary of mirrors. Didn't know I was sleeping but in the dream I woke up and went forward with my morning constitutional. After brushing my teeth, I looked op and inspected them. Assuming they looked fine I gave myself one last look and it blinked. My reflection, not me. I was astonished at the fact and brushed it off as nothing. Next morning I had my same routine but instead of that, he smiled at me then tapped the glass creating a water-like ripple.
"Fragile enough," he winked at me.

A few years ago, I had a really scary dream-

RE: Nightmares. - Ocean - Aug. 05, 2013

Wow, that last part was weird. Another dream

RE: Nightmares. - DrPepsidew - Aug. 05, 2013

For my dreams, they sometimes leave off at odd points. I expected a follow up to the dream three posts up, boy did I get one.
The next morning I woke up (in the dream) And went to the mirror to brush my teeth before a run. I had my iPod in (The song was The Sharpest Lives by My Chemical Romance) and I was jamming, I raised my arm but couldn't move it past my chest. Confused, I opened my eyes towards my arm. There were two, one of them mine and the other lead back to the mirror. I shook out my earbuds, music still blaring and my reflection said, "Good song, top bad I finally gotcha."
As his grip tightened, I started to bleed. He was blunt and sharp, I was terrified. I punched the mirror, shattering it. The shards flew from the frame and I could hear my scream but it was broken and sounded furious. Midair, hands shot out of each share grabbing onto me and pulling me down. I got the fragments off and bolted out of my bathroom.
I turned left into the hallway and got closelined by two arms interlocked with eachother (two mirrors were across each other). They acted together and started pulling eachother out of the mirrors. I punched one of the mirrors and broke it too. The other had gotten out and sped towards me, I picked up a chair and swung in a wide arc but the other "me" caught it and tossed it away.
He began walking towards me and I woke up. I'm waiting for the next part if there'll be one Tongue_out

RE: Nightmares. - Naminé - Aug. 05, 2013

How in the world do you catch a thrown chair?!?

RE: Nightmares. - DrPepsidew - Aug. 05, 2013

I'd grab one of the legs, sidestep and pull down.

RE: Nightmares. - кαмυι カムイ - Aug. 05, 2013

Hahaha. Exactly Dr.P

RE: Nightmares. - DrPepsidew - Aug. 06, 2013

I don't think lucid dreaming is what you really want. What you want is to stop having nightmares. Nightmares come from conflicts in your external life. The real solution to stop the nightmares is to resolve your conflicts and the nightmares will go away. Trying to control them won't help much... your subconscious needs to dream for a reason because it's trying to tell you something. If you have reoccurring nightmares with similar themes popping up over and over again, it's a sure sign there's a conflict that needs to be resolved.

Have you ever had a lucid dream before though? Even just once? Were you able to control the nightmare?

I lucid dream occasionally myself.

Btw, have you ever tried dream analysis? You should read this:

RE: Nightmares. - DrPepsidew - Aug. 06, 2013

Oh I know what causes nightmares, if I can't control my many external conflicts, I can at least start with the little stuff.

RE: Nightmares. - The Supreme One - Aug. 06, 2013

About lucid dreams...really all you have to do is stay still without falling asleep in order to have them. When I was younger, my parents would have me in bed by 7, but I was never tired so I would lie motionless in bed with my eyes closed until I fell asleep. After about 20 or 30 minutes, you will be unable to move your body, yet you will be aware that you're asleep. I never understood why I was concious while sleeping & able to control my dreams at times when I was younger until I learned what lucid dreaming was.

RE: Nightmares. - Buu - Aug. 06, 2013

Sleep paralysis.
