It is a branch of of the quandry pack and intention is too become the new default texture pack. It improves on many aspects such as the armor and ores while still retaining that minecraft feel that most other packs fail at.

FTB is alright, I play with my classmates on their personal server.
1.5 is horrible, the lag is ridiculous.
Maybe it's you, or your computer, or your network, don't blame the update
On the same yet different note, 1.5.1 is coming out soon! Hopefully that does fix any bugs that might have come up.

3 of my friends have the same problem, their FPS was cut like in half. from 60 to 30ish. Mine just lagged.

Then turn off smooth lighting

He got it to test if it would work on his PC without a virus, then he bought it. Did you even read his post?

Sorry for the revival of this thread, but I just recently got Minecraft 1.5.2 and I wanted to show my house. (Starter House).
EDIT: So I tried blowing up Obsidian with A LOT of TNT, but it didn't work...
Can somebody explain to me what the hype is about over Minecraft? I've played it one time for about three weeks, and I don't really get all of the excitement about it. Honestly, it looks like a 3D 16-Bit version of Garry's Mod.
Seriously, what's the hype? And please, don't respond with, "It's awesome" or "Why wouldn't anybody like it?" Or "You don't like it? You suck" and all of those carpy responses...
Vanilla minecraft is fun enough, but gets boring after a while. The real fun for me is playing user-created adventure maps, PvP, and mods. I also enjoy building redstone gizmos on Creative. Survival is interesting enough, but is frustrating at the start, when you are dying of hunger, and boring at the end, where you aren't afraid of monsters and are bored out of your mind trying to find diamonds. The real fun comes when you are playing against other players.

Really, what Cake said is right. Mods, maps, servers, PVPing, making redstone creations, (Which I suck at) making maps, and just playing with friends. There are MC servers for almost any popular game or show. I assume you didn't have servers when you played it, because that's the fun.

I was playing all sorts of stuff my friend (who was the one who owned the game) was showing me, and he gave all of that to me. First of all, even though it was obvious what to do, I just got lost too much. Second, I felt that whatever Minecraft was doing, other games were doing it better. Thirdly, even in all of those (Mods, PVP, servers/maps, etc.) I just felt it wasn't as exciting.

I recon Minecraft is one of those games that you have to 'get'. It's like marmite. Love or hate it.
Another example is tower defense games. Some people love them some don't and they can't really explain why.
And yeh you're right about your description of Minecraft as that basically what it is. It's a creative sandbox game. but it's alot simpler and easier then gary's mod. I personally love Minecraft and think it comes from my nostalgic love of lego.
I think alot of the hype around minecraft is based on Youtube. People see others playing it, then say to themselves "I can do better then that" or "I can survive longer".
Some of the most popular games recently aren't neciserrily the best graphics or gameplay, they're just pure fun XD, for example, Happy Wheels.
