Air Knight test - Shindog - Jan. 01, 2019

Just received aK so decided start testing. First thing I tested was it’s ability to counter spin stealing. I only did 10 rounds as it is pretty one sided.

The combos:
(Left)Sr.0W.Br  vs aK.0P.At

5 rounds Sr soft launch:aK won 4 by OS
5 rounds Sr moderate launch: Sr won 5 By OS

.....Why is it so good. Is max launch better? or soft launch...
Edit: Nvm. I saw the vid.

Ah , at least it is better than Maximum Garuda ; )

RE: air Knight test - Wombat - Jan. 01, 2019

I've heard from @[KingSpin] that aK.7P.At outspins aH.7P.At but not Eternal for some reason??? Mind testing both of those matchups? With those weird slopes and centralized weight distribution aK shouldn't be too good for raw Stamina in same spin but I could see it working as a destabilizer.

Hmm, that’s weird especially since I would think the slopes would be be good against a shorter driver.  I’ll try it once I recover from New Years and Rose Parade stuff.

Will try to get to this a little later.  Will probably test attack related match ups later.

1st Part of (LC)aK.7P.At vs (LC)aH.7P.At is done
Conditions:
-Used my dual launcher setup to simultaneously launch both beys.  I switch launching with my left and right hands.
-since I am primarily interested in stamina I replayed the KOs.  So results is only 10 rounds but total of 17 rounds were played
-sidenote: once I put on the LC on aK it became pretty poor fitting on the launcher. It tends to stick or fall off?!  The video got long because of this.  I will provide link to the video but I didnt edit.  Don’t watch if you don’t want to suffer watching me struggling to attach a bey to a launcher.

(LC)aK.7P.At vs (LC)aH.7P.At
aK   7 OS  (2 KOs replayed)
aH   3 OS (5 KOs replayed)
aK win 70%

Video: https://youtu.be/ML_kd0kEL_8

Part 2: same conditions as part 1 but aH was equipped with outer and eternal.  21 rounds done because I replayed the one KO by aH.

(LC)aK.7P.At vs (LC)aH.Ω.Et
aK 11 OS
aH  9 OS (1 KO that I replayed)
aK win 55%

RE: Air Knight test - KingSpin - Jan. 03, 2019

Seems consistent with my findings. The downwards attack from the under slopes gives aK some unexpected matchups.

Another interesting combo I found with aK is aK.00B.Ds’. The width of the layer, coupled with the overall weight, gives it a good chance to KO opponent’s. Also, it can somehow burst opponents randomly despite its lack of aggressive edges.

What is the combo for aK against rP?
What are the outcomes/results of the battles?

I tested this match up too and I get the same results..sort of.  It depends on the launch.  I made a few videos to show this.  Essentially if Sr or hS is launched too soft it will get pushed down by aK.

This phenomenon is probably due to the smooth edges of aK - this makes it very resistant to spinsteal (and also doesn't allow it to spinsteal from the opponent).

I wonder how this combo plays out in same spin matchups? I suspect it doesn't do very well in terms of stamina, but its wide circumference gives it potential for KO attack.

It also has a quite nice set of teeth, not Bursting often especially against heavy hitters like Valkyrie and Achilles. From what I observed from our local tournament (Philippines), aK combos don't hold a candle in terms of stamina at all  against mG (I guess the ring of aK is too high to land hits on mG, and even if equipped with the Expand Frame it still loses a lot of stamina every hit). I haven't seen matchups yet of aK vs opposite spin, all always same-spin battles; when it does get hit into the pockets and managed to bounce back in, the stamina goes down by a lot.

I plan to test aK with Bearing or any Dash/Prime Driver to see 1) if able to withstand Bursts from attackers) and 2) to see if there is potential for stalling/KO

Yeah, it's teeth are pretty decent. Coupled with the fact that its edges aren't aggressive, this causes problems for attackers trying to burst it.

The recent tournament here in Singapore saw some players using it, but I felt that it didn't quite live to its hype - there were much better layers that could perform better in the stamina role. It's niche however, is that its more defensive - harder to KO (due to its size) and harder to burst (teeth + smooth edges).

Somehow, the Malaysians find it overpowered - they classify this as tier 6 (the highest tier) in their deck point system. I wonder if its because they haven't tested it enough and are somehow biased against it...

During that tournament, we play-tested it against the God Layers and while it has some heft, the stamina really sucks bad due to the imbalanced design (like an inverse Deep Chaos). I find it works nice on aK.10G.At for defense and more often than not Over Finishes against aggro and stamina opponents

RE: Air Knight test - KingSpin - Jan. 18, 2019

I feel aK serves a really niche role as a “real” defence type bey. Stellar resistance to burst and KO, and decent stamina to outspin most attack types. It doesn’t have the stamina to outspin “real” stamina combos, which makes it not OP.

Was aK listed as a Defense type tho? Cuz if so, then I do think it does hold its ground mainly against attack types. But if it was a Stamina type, I think it has already failed at that spec?

Pretty sure TT listed it as Stamina. Shouldn't be too surprising that there's a discrepancy though, the classifications are rarely accurate. Also, the lines between Stamina and Defence has always been blurry.

In god, we had a random booster prize bey of all 4 types, whereas in cho z we have 2 stamina types, 1 attack type, and 1 balance type. i wouldnt be surprised if for whatever reason it was meant to be a defense type but then due to some sort of reasoning they decided to say it's a stamina type instead, maybe because of the rest of the parts in the stock combo?

Highly probable. If it were a Defence type, it would definitely be on Atomic. Maybe they realize they've been releasing too many Atomics lately, so they slapped Eternal on it and labelled it as Stamina.

That's probably really likely, the blue atomic in the set matches its color scheme really well while the green revolve while i think looks pretty does feel look out of place on it. This in mind, I hope that the future for burst will help reinforce the types besides balancing stamina in the meta, having defense types that are clearly defense types instead of the blurry lines we've had before would be really nice, I think the recent releases lean towards this too.

Coincidentally, Et doesn't work that well with aK, in my experience. The Atomic from this RBV is quite one, if not the most free-spinning At of all releases so far. And I do agree with the said At as the best pair-up with the blue aK both aesthetically and performance-wise
