RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - OwnageDerp - Sep. 17, 2013

I hate my remedial math class, my teacher yells at my face for not having math homework, when I'm assigned it the period after, even then my homework gets helped my my teacher. The only reason I'm in remedial (or Special Education) is because I'm a failure.

Unfortunately, "trying hard" is not a measurable goal that a teacher can put down on a student file. Even if the teacher really likes what you are doing, it has to have measurable results of some kind in order to be documented.

BTW don't think I'm being a jerk, I had to deal with this kind of thing in gym; I barely managed to pass one semester, because I'm just plain not athletic.

Just a random thought:
What if humans were only capable of telling the truth? No modesty or anything. Everything would be truthful, straightforward, etc.
I think the world would suck, cuz all the freaks like me would be told we're freaks, everyone would be saying how they're better at this and that, and people would be angry and miserable.

Not sure where I was going with this, to be honest.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Snoop Dog MS - Sep. 17, 2013

Incorrect. In my E.L.A class, if you don't try, your grade will get lower. So ya

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Dual - Sep. 17, 2013

Of course, but what they're saying is on the other side of the sandwich. They're saying that even if you try your hardest, teachers will take points off if the talent isn't there.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - ShinobuXD - Sep. 17, 2013

Not to mention, in real life, know what you get for just trying: Nothing but a lost job.

However, I think in a class like art, one should at least be given a C for effort. Art requires quite a bit of natural talent.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - th!nk - Sep. 17, 2013

If a student is trying hard and still failing then it's likely the fault of the teacher or the education system, assuming the student is legitimately trying hard.

Though I guess with things like creativity which are inherently difficult to learn, it's understandable, but in that case the student shouldn't be particularly upset about it - though in the case of Art class, trying hard should still be enough to warrant a pass (effort is a big part of marking rubrics over here, for example).

That said isn't 50-70 passing grades still, or is this not out of 100?

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Dual - Sep. 17, 2013

In most schools, I believe, 65 and lower is an F. So 50-65 is not a passing grade. Everything higher is.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Kujikato - Sep. 17, 2013

I never was that great at traditional art, but I still was able to get mid 80s while being lazy. If you're getting 50-70 with a lot of effort, that's just plain pathetic.

EDIT: When I said "that's just plain pathetic", I was referring to the education system. A lot of effort does not deserve 50-60s, a 70 should be a granted for a lot of work.

I did word it rather badly on my part, so apologies from my side.

I tried jumping over a fence outside my school after hours, and after an embarrassing limp to the car and ride to the hospital, and it turns out, I strained a tendon in my left knee. Same reason as last time.

I'm guessing that if you die trying to parkour in a video game, you shouldn't do it in real life...

...

Oh well...
why would you try that again? you really need to stop doing stuff you saw in video games...

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Ga' - Sep. 18, 2013

Holy hell senior year first semester is an absolute killer. I've been in school for all of 7 days and it feels like a month already. I've already pulled 2 all-nighters and I have had about 3 hours of sleep average on weeknights.

All of the work from 5 APs, plus my research paper and application for competitions like Siemens and Intel, team activities like Science Olympiad and Quiz Bowl, and college applications. Good lord this is insanity.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Snoop Dog MS - Sep. 18, 2013

Damn. Don't know how you'll get to beyblade tournaments but XD anyway, Kujikato, that was very mean and rude. Not everyone has talent in a specific thing, no one is perfect, especially not you for saying that. There are things called "strengths" in learning, maybe ryukiba is better at Writing or Math. So that was really mean. Man is 6th Grade easy! XD I can now get to my Science Fair project! If you need help with art, ryukiba I'll help.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Ga' - Sep. 18, 2013

I can still go to Beyblade tournaments only because I'm enrolled in a program that takes me into NYC on Saturdays for advanced science classes. After the class is done, I can catch a subway and stop by Central Park if something is going on. This program will start on Saturday however, so I need to get comfortable with riding the train and subway alone of course before I can start helping out with tournaments.

Man, 6th grade is easy. Cherish it while you still can, that is the last year of homework-free summers (for me at least). I wish I was back in that position haha.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Snoop Dog MS - Sep. 18, 2013

Lol it really is easy, and Im in Honors too! Huh, I guess Im an Albert Einstein.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Dual - Sep. 18, 2013

Woah there. Don't be too modest now.

Anyway, honours chemistry has been the worst class ever. Nobody except me understands anything, so we end up spending a week on what should have taken a day, and I'm sitting there bored out of my mind.

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Snoop Dog MS - Sep. 18, 2013

Im not trying to be modest, Im just saying that my class should be at least a bit of a challenge, but Im bored out of my mind. Its too easy. And if I were you, I would have a hella lot of fun and welp, I would blow everything up Cute

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Ga' - Sep. 18, 2013

I think you mean egotistical, and I could say the same to you. Wink

Honors is easy though, when you get to high school AP is where it's really at. That's where the workload piles up, since AP courses are college courses written in a high school format (college level material with high school amount of time).

EDIT: Obviously you can't just 'blow stuff up' in Chemistry classes, they make you sign a safety contract and you would be labeled an arsonist if you did.
Leave it to the labs, and demos. My AP Chem teacher in particular loves to make fun demos with Chemistry to keep us interested while he teaches the class, so I've already blown up beakers, used makeshift flamethrowers and been electrocuted several times in demonstrations lol.

Electrocution - The accidental death or suicide by electric shock.

I hope you meant that you had been exposed to mild electric shocks .. Chocked_2
Edit: Yes Im ball busting today

RE: Random Thoughts 5 - READ RULES IN FIRST POST - Ga' - Sep. 18, 2013

I think "shocked" was the more appropriate version yes, though we did get grounded to a metal pole and then shocked via a tesla coil and halogen tube light several times haha.

As an example of my class, this is a picture that a friend of mine took of the lab we did today. We created magnetite using ferric chloride solutions and then dissolved them in tetramethylammonium hydroxide to make ferrofluids, which we then played around with for the next few minutes. I have to do a lab report sadly, but it was fun while it lasted.

AP man. I'm in my Junior year but they won't let you take 5 AP classes, and I was put on the wait list for two and eventually didn't get in. SO my two AP classes currently are AP English 11 and AP Psychology :3
Honors Chem last year was pretty fun, we used magnesium to make short-lived lightsabers XD (We couldn't fight with them though, obviously).

I was being sarcastic. And I'm not, I've taken the course in 7th grade, so that's why it's not challenging. Doesn't help that my class has a weird sense of humour...if you so much as say "plumbum" they go off like a bomb.

Well IM getting ready to start 2 new jobs and start college again in January
