Phantom Has Two Molds?! - gibsonmac - Oct. 30, 2011 So it has recently been brought to my attention that there are, in fact, two molds of Phantom MW... One of these is described to be having "spikes in the open area of stamina side [perhaps the 'smirk'??] and there being some kind of space between the clear and metal wheel" while the second mold is simply absent of these features... I am told that the "spikey" mold is the better to have, though rare to find. I have 3 Phantom Orion's (all from different sellers) and they all appear to be Identical, they all look like they have the 'spikey' feature, though it is not clear what/where exactly this feature is located, aside from the 'open area' in stamina mode, Also it is not clear what exactly the 'gap' between the CW and MW is. I was always under the impression that Mold variations happen when TT re-releases something as part of a set, or needs to correct a design flaw, or when Sono-Kong gets the release they sometimes they have inferior molds, I had never heard of there being multiple molds of a new bey at the time of release. So, can people post DETAILED pics of their Phantom Orion MW in Stamina Mode?? The More we can get, the better the chances of us getting to the bottom of finding the EXACT differences in the molds, and if they do in fact perform differently as has been claimed... I guess that would account for my phantoms +RF being able to easily KO Basalt BD145MB, so I look forward to your pictures, I will get mine up soon. http://worldbeyblade.org/Thread-Earth-Re-discussion?pid=825130#pid825130 http://worldbeyblade.org/Thread-London-U...#pid814194 RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Janstarblast - Oct. 30, 2011 Well, if this proves out to be correct, then it will be quite surprising. But, from whatever you are saying, the differences are quite minute (?) I guess this thing really needed more materialistic proof before posting a thread... No offense! RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Phoenix Inferno - Oct. 30, 2011 Interesting but I dont know about this thread. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - BeybladeStation - Oct. 30, 2011 I do not think this is the case at all, for all my friends have an Orion now and all looked the exact same. And yes, all the Orions have a "small gap" (at least the ones I was shown) because that is the CW design. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - gibsonmac - Oct. 30, 2011 I know, but Shabadabaloo tells me there are 2 molds, then quotes a UK thread where they claim to have found this... Also, the whole point of this thread is to find out if this IS or IS NOT correct, by having everyone post detailed pictures we will be able to see 20+ Phantoms as opposed to 3-5 that someone may buy... and it would be even more helpful if someone WITH a CONFIRMED spikey mold would post a picture RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - BeybladeStation - Oct. 30, 2011 Could you show us the quote? Perhaps it will clarify. I need to know what this "spiky" end looks like, if it truly does exist.. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - gibsonmac - Oct. 30, 2011 Thats the point we don't know what exactly is meant by 'spikey' hence the need for pictures to compare... It was Control_ who first posted this mold difference RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Ga' - Oct. 30, 2011 This was Control_'s post: http://worldbeyblade.org/Thread-London-UK-Regents-Park-15-10-11-The-Autumn-Battle-Bash--41309?pid=814194#pid814194 RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Hov - Oct. 30, 2011 ^ I was exactly going to post that. Its not new lol RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Jaygrazer - Oct. 30, 2011 I can sorta confirm this. VERDICT 1 Spoiler (Click to View) Spoiler (Click to View) RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - ControL_ - Oct. 30, 2011 Galaxy Jay, neither of those two images shows mold 2, the spikier section, which LeeDraciel himself has. It is true there are two molds for Phantom, I saw them myself with my own two eyes, LeeDraciel pointed it out to me and it is extremely obvious. There are several spikes in the dip part of Stamina mode and that same mold has a slight gap between the metal and clear wheel with Orion. Where the other mode does not. Let's try and get Lee to post some pictures. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Dan - Oct. 30, 2011 I don't see the difference. Try to get some proper lighting in there. :V RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - ControL_ - Oct. 30, 2011 (Oct. 30, 2011 8:01 PM)Dan Wrote: I don't see the difference. Try to get some proper lighting in there. :VThere isn't, he posted the same mold twice. I'm 95% sure the one he posted does not include mold 2. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Dan - Oct. 30, 2011 We posted at the same time, I didn't get to see your response before posting. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - ControL_ - Oct. 30, 2011 (Oct. 30, 2011 8:39 PM)Dan Wrote: We posted at the same time, I didn't get to see your response before posting.Aah ok, I believe LeeDraciel is posting pictures, and a full insight of the molds including which one is better, by how much etc. He hasn't told me most of it, so i'm looking forward to it. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - LeeDraciel - Oct. 30, 2011 So it turns out I seem to have the only 'mold 2' so far. Tbh i'm not entirely convinced, if anything it is probably nothing more than a mess up in the factory. But it is actually slightly better than the common one, i have tested it with mirror matches and the mold 2 does beat it everytime unless in the case of a ko, I haven't really seen any difference there. Anyway if you take a look below you will notice that one side has protrusions/spikes/teeth and there is a gap between the cleer wheel. Spoiler (Click to View) RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Hazel - Oct. 30, 2011 To be honest, Lee, this looks more like a machining error than anything else. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - ControL_ - Oct. 30, 2011 if you like. It seems the teeth is only on one of the two dipped sides. I can clearly see a gap between the metal and clear wheel on mold teeth compared to the regular mold one where the metal wheel and clear wheel touch. Thanks for the many clear quality images. I do think it's a manufacturing error. ED: Simply because the teeth are really quite awkwardly shaped. But lucky you. Hazel Well many manufacturing errors do create molds. Such as the Virgo 5 minute mold? I'm pretty sure I read that it was a manufacturing error too. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Dan - Oct. 30, 2011 Is it actually proven to do better/worse than the original/normal, non-spiky version? RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - sum 472 - Oct. 30, 2011 Does this spiky/smooth mold have an effect in the Attack mode of Phantom? RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - Imperial - Oct. 30, 2011 Conparative tests between the two wheels would be helpful to see if this new Mold/Manufacturing error makes a difference. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - ControL_ - Oct. 30, 2011 This thread should never have been made. The reasons why I didn't make the thread despite being the first poster was: 1. Lee stumbled across this, not me. He deserves to start this thread, as he was going to. 2. There are no official tests for the mold differences yet, so why make the thread. I'm pretty sure the rule in the customisations forum is, no tests, no thread. Lee is a busy man, and it was in his own time to make official tests, post them, etc. So it's best you let him take care of this, instead of barraging with requests. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - sum 472 - Oct. 30, 2011 Should this thread be closed, and the discussion can continue in the thread with proper tests if Lee decides to make it? RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - gibsonmac - Oct. 30, 2011 ControL_ 1. This is in the general forum... look where you click?? so there is no rule about tests... 2. I'm not barraging any one person in particular with requests, just people who own phantom in general, for a picture of the alleged second mold, so people know if it does or does not exist, and then are able to identify which is theirs. 3. This is not some sort of intellectual property, so it doesn't belong to you, lee, myself, or anyone else for that matter... it's news, about a toy... not a ground breaking discovery in astro-physics... there is nothing to take credit for... It doesn't seem to be a mold difference at all, just a manufacturing defect, like a miss-printed Magic card... Tests are probably not necessary, as this is likely a one-time thing, so whether it does better or worse than a normal phantom would only affect Lee, unless of course other people find that they too have this defect on theirs, in which case tests might actually be useful, though it seems so far that only one of these 'mold 2' are to exist... It looks like it was removed just a bit to early from the caste and got crimped/bent... looking to the side of the 'teeth' the top edge seems to be bent/crimped over a bit as well. RE: Phantom Has Two Molds?! - ControL_ - Oct. 31, 2011 If you did not know whether or not this was a manufactoring error or a new mold why didn't you try and contact either me or lee asking for a further insight before creating a thread with near no information, no tests, and no questioning? The thread was so lacking that even the title had a question mark in it. With so litle information, why else did you think it was inappropriate to start a topic on a 'manufacturing error'. |
