I think these were rather cute. We were thinking of watermelons too but they seem to have vanished.

Contains sliced beef marinated in various spices, meatballs, chipolata and garden vegetables, in a heavy cream based sauce, with lumps of mozzarella and melted cheddar.

Focaccia. Goes well with balsamic vinegar.

Post-christmas mini log cake attempts.

Pig candy, sadly we did not have enough time to roast until it turned black.

Tried something slightly different this time, the bacon was folded over to encase the sugar/spice mix, and then more of it was added to the top. Tastes... the same.

Homemade mushroom cream soup with homebaked focaccia bread spread with homemade garlic butter is awesome. Chicken wasn't as good as last time, salad was, well, I'm practically carnivorous, it's mainly for my health-conscious guests.

Log cake turned out much better than the last one we baked.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Rocky - Jan. 06, 2009

Chocked_2..............do you normally leave the head on the chicken? It's damn scary.....

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Bey Brad - Jan. 07, 2009

That all looks amazing Nic. Please be my maid.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Khel - Jan. 07, 2009

I did a hell of a lot of cooking this break, but the notables were Rogan Josh (lamb curry) and seekh kebab. Everything was fresh and tasty. If I was not such a twat I would have taken pictures. Who knows, family is having company this weekend, and I might be called to make one of the two.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Bey Brad - Jan. 13, 2009

nic where do you get your recipes from

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - May The Pirate - Jan. 14, 2009

I need to find things to use red onion in other than spag bol and sammiches. I've grown quite addicted to the flavour.

I really wish I'd remember to post the stuff I cook up here dammit!

I used to have mozerella slices, grated cheddar and red onion in a toasted baguette. It was delicious. Grin

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - May The Pirate - Jan. 14, 2009

That sounds uber nice.
I have to eat an uber lot of carbs in my diet because i'm hypoglycaemic so I burn sugar way too quickly and it'll suddenly drop for no reason.
So I kinda needed a way to make it not go boring, so I thank you for the recipes Grin

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Rocky - Jan. 14, 2009

Wish I had an excuse to eat loads of carbs. XD

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - May The Pirate - Jan. 14, 2009

You don't want one.
Your taste buds get really bored after a while since you run out of recipes. (I also suffer from Iron-deficient anemia, so I have an excuse to eat steak, but even then that'll get boring)

If anything i'm just looking to try new food so I dont have to constantly eat spag bol to stop my sugar levels going haywire.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Rocky - Jan. 14, 2009

Step 1: Make a normal meal.
Step 2: Put cheese on it.

Seriously you can never go wrong with cheese. And there are so many different flavours so you can't get bored.

Also, can't you eat chocolate for sugar levels? Or something with, you know, sugar in it?Not that spag bol doesn't but there are more sugary foods out there. XD

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - May The Pirate - Jan. 14, 2009

Things like chocolate are classed as a "Quick fix" it brings my sugar level back up and sometimes it'll stay that way, othertimes (Example, like last week) I went:
Sugar crash
Ate two glucose pills, felt better.
20 minutes later my sugar went again, so I needed carbs, because carbs are a slow burning sugar, whereas chocolate burns fast.
Which generally involves a sandwich, as much as I hate them.

Practically all my mates are used to it by now, though it scared them half to death the first few times it happened because I passed out from not being able to get sugar in time XD.

and I can agree there, cheese on anything is great.
I LOVE Red leicester cheese at the moment, but I can't find any meals that it would be appetising on since it tends to be an acquired taste.
With spag bol, as much as I need Iron I have tablets for it, so I use veggie mince instead because they're generally made from carbs of some kind, so i'm packed full of sugar XD.

I really want to try my hand at traditional japanese dishes. But I dunno if I have the skills for that.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Rocky - Jan. 14, 2009

Yay veggie mince. Grin

And wow, you actually passed out. I guess that would be a good excuse for PE. XD Wikipedia says you should drink fruit juices and soda. Smile

I'd think that you could just replace cheddar with red leicester in most recipes. Still, I used to have this when I went to a certain café:
Soft brown baguette/roll thing.
Butter/Margerine (duh)
Grated Mild Cheddar
Grated Red Leicester
Pickled Onions (optional)
It was super tasty.

And you should definitely try Japanese recipes if you can. Even if you carp it up it'll still be fun. XD
