Organizer Applications Reopen, WBO Judge Certification, and X Rules Updates! - Bey Brad - Mar. 11, 2025

Hey world bladers! There's a ton to cover in this update, so let's jump right into it:

Organizer Applications are Open!

We paused WBO Organizer applications at the start of February while we took some time to improve our organizer application and onboarding process.

We're happy to announce that WBO Organizer applications are now once again open!

Unlike the previous organizer quiz which focused on your knowledge of the WBO's rules, the new WBO Organizer application process focuses more on your ability to manage a successful event and deal with difficult situations that come up outside of gameplay.

We're also changing how we onboard new organizers. Instead of 1-on-1 calls, accepted applicants will be join a group onboarding session on Discord with other new organizers and WBO staff members! If your application is accepted, we'll reach out to set up a time.

If you've been waiting to apply, now's the time. I'm looking forward to seeing you in our first organizer onboarding!

To go along with this update, the Organizer Guide has also been given a major update to better support new and existing organizers!

This new process also means that WBO Organizers can host WBO Ranked Events without being rules experts themselves, and focus fully on managing their event... as long as there's a WBO Certified Judge there.

WBO Judge Certification for Beyblade X

Something we've commonly heard from organizers is how hard it can be to find judges for events, and keep them trained on the rules of the game. We also know that there are many bladers who want to get involved in supporting local Beyblade tournaments, but don't want to become Organizers themselves.

Our new WBO Judge Certification aims to solve both of these challenges, by making it easier for bladers to get involved in judging, and easier for organizers to find the most qualified judges for their events.

To become a WBO Certified Judge, you get 20/25 questions correct on the WBO Judge Test. Learn more about the WBO Judge Test here:

This change also changes what's required to host WBO Ranked Events. Now that WBO Organizers are no longer being quizzed heavily on the rules, WBO Ranked Events require the presence of a WBO Certified Judge. It's also fine if the organizer is a WBO Certified Judge themselves!

Existing WBO Organizers can continue to host WBO Ranked Events without a WBO Certified Judge until June 1, 2025.

WBO Judge Certification is currently only available for Beyblade X. WBO Ranked Events for other formats can continue to be run by any WBO Organizer without a WBO Certified Judge.

The Judge Guide has also been given a massive update to align with the new Beyblade X rulebook! Check it out!

Locked Bey List Now Available as an Optional Rule

There has been significant interest from bladers in a format that requires you to use the same Beys for an entire stage of the tournament. Based on the proposal from gregandcin, we're happy to introduce locked Bey list as an optional rule!

Locked Bey list
  • Before the start of each stage of the tournament, you must submit a Bey list to the tournament organizer.
  • A Bey list is a written list of complete Bey combinations (e.g. DranBrave S6-60V). The number of Beys that can be included in the Bey list depends on the match type:
    • 1on1: 1 to 3 Beys
    • 3on3: 3 to 5 Beys
    • WBO Deck and P3C1: 1 to 5 Beys
  • During Bey selection, you may only select Beys from your Bey list for that stage of the tournament.
  • Between sets during a best-of-3 match, you may select any Bey from your Bey list during Bey selection.
  • Multiple copies of the same part can be included in a Bey list, but multiple copies of the same part cannot be selected during Bey selection.

We hope the availability of this rule to WBO Ranked Events will encourage communities to try it out and share feedback with us!

Other Beyblade X Rulebook Updates

Based on feedback we've heard since launching our new Beyblade X rulebook, we've made the following revisions (changes are bold):
  • Attach your Bey to your launcher and hold it above or within the launch area (figure 3).
  • Keep the bit of your Bey facing downwards while attached to your launcher. Do not tilt your launcher so that your bit faces sideways or upwards.
  • Start pulling your winder/string as the word “shoot”/“rip” is called.
  • A blader commits a launch error when they [...]
  • launch their Bey upside down or sideways
  • begin pulling their launcher's winder/string before or after the word “shoot”/“rip” is called
  • If you request a relaunch for a technical issue, the judge may inspect your launcher, including performing a test launch with it.
  • Use of official equipment beyond its intended design (e.g. spinning a Bey in the incorrect spin direction) is forbidden.
  • Stadiums with hairline cracks may be repaired with tape as long as the repair is applied to the underside and results in a smooth, uninterrupted, and imperceptible surface. However, stadiums with completely broken pieces or where tape provides significant structural support cannot be used.
  • Winders: Winder, Long Winder, Entry Winder and Dragon Winder

There's much more to come for our Beyblade X rulebook! Future updates will include:
  • A built-in changelog
  • Q&A section based on the most common questions
  • Improved printer formatting

Is there something you'd like to see in a future rulebook update? Reply and let us know!

With the launch of our new Beyblade X rulebook last month, and now with our updated WBO Organizer process and new WBO Judge Certification, we've worked hard to set the foundation early this year for what appears to be the biggest year for competitive Beyblade ever.

We have tons more in the works, and can't wait to show you more in the coming months!

Have questions or feedback? Feel free to post in the thread below!
But DO NOT post specific questions relating to the WBO Judge Test! :)

Do current organizers need to retake the test in order to keep their organizer status?

The new WBO Organizer application is not a "test" and does not need to be completed if you are already a WBO Organizer!

Kind of not a fan regarding the ruling of the Bey being upright for the entirety of the launch.

The Event Organizer part of me understands in regards to inexperienced players launching with extreme angles, it could cause miss launches, property damage and/or potential injury, but the Competitive Player part of me believes that as long at the bey leaves the launcher in the proper orientation at the right time and doesn't snipe opponents or break the stadium, there's no harm in launching like Takao/Tyson or Shu Kuranai for a bit of mistique.

Again I understand and respect WBO rulings, but it's still a game and sometimes people like to have extra fun in matches with certain "techniques", combos, or "gentleman's match-ups" in ways that haven't previously been against the rules.

Agreed. Different tilts are always so interesting to hear about and see why people use them and how they came up with them. And some different tilt launches require different amounts of skill which makes it all the more exciting to pull them off.

(Definitely not just saying because I have a specific special tilt launch with DranBuster haha. /hj)

Tilting is still allowed, but the goal should be that the Bit is what touches the stadium first, not any other part

Roughly how long will it take for my test results to be confirmed? Also how will I know they have been reviewed?

I mean, those all seem pretty bad to me! It might be a somewhat different conversation if this was something that added a real layer of depth to the game, but it doesn't. It is pretty much just a gimmick shot.

Assuming you mean the Organizer application (since the Judge Test results are immediate), we're going to try to get through everything this weekend. We received over 100 applications in the past three days, so there's a lot to get through!

I meant the judge test. Is some sort of flair or other indicator going to be added to accounts that pass it or am I gunna need to dig through my email to find the message with my score or something of the sort when I wanna judge an event? Lol

Everyone who has passed the judge test has now been added to the judge role! We'll also be adding people to judge channels on Discord this weekend.

That's why I understand the clarification in the ruling. Personally, I've usually struggled with most string launchers, so when limited to them, like with L2 and CobaltDragoon (up until the anniversary set release), I'd need to flick both wrists to get sufficient power without damaging the launcher. I always make sure that the bey lands tip first, but it may not start in that orientation before pulling the string, but I've always ensured that it leaves the launcher in the proper position. If this is against the rules, and the bey has to be tip-to-stadium from "Bladers Set" I'd like to clarify as to fix myself and not lead others astray.

Tl;Dr: What's the issue with the launcher being at any position, so long as the bey is launched on time and lands tip fist without slamming the stadium or sniping opponents?

That stinks but thanks for trying. It looks like I won’t even be able to host it because I still haven’t received any info on my organizer application

RE: Organizer Applications Reopen, WBO Judge Certification, and X Rules Updates! - Running Ronan - Apr. 10, 2025

I just took the judges test and can I ask for clarification on something when the questions come up about the results of the battles when it says Blader on the right does that mean on the right side of the screen or Blader on the right side of the stadium? Because in the judges handbook, there are designated sides of the stadium, and sometimes the stadium in the video is facing the other direction from the camera, so just asking for some clarification.

RE: Organizer Applications Reopen, WBO Judge Certification, and X Rules Updates! - Yushwa - Apr. 10, 2025

I would like an update to initiating and scoring rules. As it stands currently, if one bey enters a pocket first and the other shortly after self-extremes; if the bey is still in the pocket spinning it wins because it has the chance to return. I would like for there to be an update in which order of exiting the stadium takes priority if the pocketed Beyblade never makes it out of the pocket.

Scoring 4. has it.

I think it's possible to simplify it.

Order of initiation takes priority if both beys score a finish.
