I think the ring's bad shape sort of counteracts this.
I mean, what is particularly bad about it (not trying to sound hostile)?

RE: B-169 Starter Variant Lucifer.Mb 2D - Orbit - Jun. 18, 2020

Yes, the shape is horrible, but 2S should be wider than the ring considering the size of it, so there Might be Chassis to chassis contact before there is any ring to ring contact. Even if this isn’t the case 2S will at least partly cover it. Yes previous beys with the spiky shape were horrible, but I think the metal will make up for this.

Those layers were horrible for reasons that are pretty much all resolved with this new layer system. This shape design may be outclassed though since that was a long time ago.

Rise was a circle with a way smaller circle shooting out of the centre. This is a circle that curve up (by the looks of it). Kind of like a 3D semicircle.

Defense Beys don't particularly enjoy recoil, and the spiky shape is undoubtedly going to gradually generate a lot of rotational recoil. It'll be relatively easy to wear down a Variant combo's Stamina despite its OWD since the contact points can single-handedly decide whether or not a Bey is viable even if the Weight Distribution is perfect for its shape. If you look at Master, which is currently one of the tankiest Layer components when used in Left Spin, it has 4 main contact points with gaps, but the contact points themselves are pretty smooth and the gaps aren't too big, so it's able to deflect attacks more easily. I'm sorry I had to use the same example as before when replying to kai edits, but I just want to get this point across in a way that makes sense to me. Also, just elaborating on what I said before, Duo αpollos did have several flaws, but the spiky shape definitely was the biggest problem. The fact that the spikes were organized into 6 segments arguably did make it worse, but definitely not by much. It suffered from having too much recoil to be defensive but was also too round overall and with not enough space between contact points to be used aggressively, which is what I think will happen with Variant, except it might have a niche use for taking down Perfect Phoenix and Glide combos due to being in the correct weight range and resembling a circular saw. It's probably not going to be useless, but it's definitely not comparable to D2 in terms of performance because D2 was useful in a ton of matchups and it looks like Variant is only going to be usable to win some specific matchups.

The rotational recoil shouldn’t be that high since the spike gaps are nowhere near as large as Duo Apollos. Duo Apollos main flaw was actually 4 particular wall like contact points (similar to legend spriggan) in between the spikes that were the primary reason for its spin and click loss (although the spikes definitely contributed) and Variant does not have those wall-like contact points. If we can find a chassis that is well suited for its shape unless  2D is actually decent, we may be able to make some interesting hybrid combos with this ring.

except 2S doesn't exist yet..
Edit: I guess it's a typo and you meant 2D well I don't blame you considering the fact that S and D are right next to each other in the Qwerty keyboard lay out.
2S already exists

I don't know why this beyblade is so hyped when its probably be bad like storm spriggan

Hyped? Well that depends on you but being bad as S2 is just doesn't right i mean this bey itself already have a metal in the chip which makes it more havier than other chip and do you remember diabolos it was probably the most used chip right now due the chip having metal in it yes i know Lc only has it on the middle but being that heavy chip is good for brave combos that already consider to be op and S2 doesn't have a competitive part at the time

Edit I forgot about 2S except why are you talking about 2S in a Variant Lucifer thread

It Can still be relatively a good bey since it has a promisingly parts

RE: B-169 Starter Variant Lucifer.Mb 2D - Obelisk - Jun. 18, 2020

I'm actually quite looking forward to this bey as the driver and chassis are interesting. If the chassis (2D) turns out to be durable and work against both spin directions, I was thinking that you could put a driver like orbit or atomic on this chassis so the bey has stamina and does not destabilise. By doing this you could prolong the beys stamina and the chassis may help with anti spin steal against drivers like Br, Xt+, etc. Which I think is what this chassis is intended for rather than just defence.

The driver being free spinning and POM plastic, that intrigues me. Though bearing in mind I'm only basing the performance off that clip of Lucifer vs Helios (both the chassis and driver).

2 Words: The Driver

RE: B-169 Starter Variant Lucifer.Mb 2D - Orbit - Jun. 18, 2020

I was saying it could be good on 2S for its sheer OWD and LAD. It’s got 6 sides so it could work on 2S. That’s all.

RE: B-169 Starter Variant Lucifer.Mb 2D - snoc - Jun. 18, 2020

Just saw the advertisement for the bey and it looks pretty good, hopefully the barrier blades hold up and it turns out to be good. My main concern is stamina tbh, If Mobius can deliver with that Lucifer should be good tho.

Why the beyblade look like those Chinese knockoff plastic gen with those metal ninja star weight disks

Seriously, this is getting kind of repetitive seeing these comments in this thread. Many people have already said why it looks that way, so before posting please go see if your question has been asked already.

He wasn't being rude. He just asked if you would look before you ask the same question many other people have. It's the same reason moderators close threads that already exist.

I am not liking the Chassis here. If there's a mode where those awful blades can stay in, I will definetly enjoy this Bey a lot. I don't see it performing the best for Defense, though.

Well from the chassis description, the activation of the gimmick seems similar to cho-z wings. So maybe soft launching will keep the blades from extending?
