I am not sure about that one. I mean the rubber around it acts as brakes from KO’s when it hits the stadium floor, but the driver is really fast and may self KO anyway.

I've used mine a lot, and it's not good for attack anymore. It's pretty good for defense though.

I owned Needle-S but sold it because it "fails to function" (as the wiki sais).

It moves around very quickly, even in battle mode ring. So my experience is identical with GoldenPenguins. Its fast, but has terrible stamina. The wiki sais it is useless for competetive play. I think so, too.

But the other driver Needle (without -S) settles to the centre after moving around initially thus being a working defense driver. Lilphil, maybe you mixed up those 2 drivers?

If not we gotta assume that there are working and broken versions of Needle-S.
