wow there is definitely more metal running through to the bottom of the face. I wonder if there is a weight difference?

There really isn't "more". The metal shaft forms a sort of cap, like a rivet. This will keep the plastic thread from detaching.

i ordered some and i think they've arrived, i will try to weigh them on monday compared to the regulars
