There was a very painful silence. It was very much expected though-

-Who’d be happy enough to even talk or even dare to move an inch in a high-class, overly-guarded prison where the worst criminals of all time were held?

I sat there, completely motionless, in the middle of my vast cell with professional guards staying on the lookout; they were very serious about security.
No joke. They were like sleeping dragons waiting to be woken up by their ill-fated prey which will soon be dead. From inside the cell, everything was solid ice, just like my life.

My life was the worst known on the face of the Earth. I’ve been thrown off from the top of a 40-story building and was almost killed, I’ve been drowned but
was lucky enough to be saved by merciful people, I’ve been forced to fight against bullies who were much larger and bulkier than me and went home severely injured but nothing, nothing I say, compares to being imprisoned for a murder I never committed. And to think I looked up to my idiotic father.

He killed the mayor, framed me, and ran away.

And guess what?! He even got a damn award for catching the murderer and supporting justice even if it means hurting your loved ones and a million U.S
dollars!!

And here I am, the innocent one, trapped in a dump where my dad is supposed to be in.

“That’s it.” I thought. “I’m barging out of this place!”

I moved very quietly towards the foreground of my cell. I moved closer..I carefully and quietly reached out my hand for the golden key dangling in the pocket of the
guard.

“A little more….please…” Carefully and silently, I finally plucked the golden key out. I kept motionless to check if the guard had noticed me. It did not seem like he did so I silently crept to the keyhole, inserted the key, twisted it and clank.

It was open. Freedom at last!

I walked out my cell really slowly. Then suddenly, one of the guards stirred. He blinked a couple of times and yawned. Before he could even wake up, I made a run for it.

I raced faster and faster, panting occasionally. I heard footsteps behind me which meant that I had already alarmed them. I curved left and rushed down the flight of stairs; not even thinking about where I'm headed to.

At the foot of the stairs, I curved left again and ran in the hall. I saw light at the far end of the hall which I thought was the outside so I ran even quicker.

But then, a soldier in green who appeared in front of me slowed me down. He held a Colt M1911A1 in his left hand; his finger rested on the trigger.

“Freeze!” he shouted loudly. I heard more footsteps from my back which meant the two security guards have already caught up.

"There’s no escape!” one of them shouted.

“Oh yeah, you think so!?" I replied "I’ll show you!”

I flipped backwards and kicked one of the guards on his stomach, punched the other upwards on his chin while I heard a bang from behind which meant the
soldier had shot me somewhere; I heard the two drop.

Pain suddenly formed in my right shoulder. I turned around to face the armed
soldier who had just shot me. I then jabbed him on his cheek and kicked him towards the metal bars of the cell where he was guarding.

“That felt good…” I thought happily. Blood dripped from my shoulder as I dashed toward the end of the hall, rather, this prison. A few more paces until I reached the end, a bullet came out from nowhere and shot me on my leg, causing me to
tumble and fall. A lot of blood splattered on the floor and a blurry figure of a man
looked down on me. It slowly became clearer.

It was the chief of the universal U.S battle army. He was holding something very more dangerous than what shot me before. It was a massive bazooka.

Was it over? Will it end like this? When I thought I can be free from this joke at last?

No, no…absolutely no.....

I cannot let this happen.......

I must get out. I must live!

Quickly and suddenly, I got up. With all my might, I heavily punched the chief and jabbed him on either side of his cheek three times and sprinted off. I did not bother to check if the chief was already knocked down or not. What mattered most is that
I get out here….alive.

This was it, freedom as I would know it, and like it. I slowed myself down; wanting to savor the meaningful moment I escaped from the prison. I took very slow steps toward the blazing sunlight that I felt hadn’t shimmered on me for years even though I was only inside the prison for a few months.

Was this really true? Was it really going to end? It seemed like an impossible dream like a distant star when I was inside the cell.

After this, I’ll find my father and avenge myself. I’ll then live life normally, like nothing like this ever happened. Streams of thoughts flowed on my head and I smiled at each one of them; even if it was bad. Everything felt good now that I escaped the place which cost me a lot of pain, sadness and misery.

“I just hope someone finds me and helps me. I’m so in bad condition right now.” I thought as I touched the scars made by the bullets. It did not seem to hurt at all.
But it might but because I’m just too happy to think it was painful.

Then, I collapsed.

In my short time in this world, I haven't really had any friends. I guess it makes sense, considering that I was always locked up in that room. Now that I think about it, it was kind of like prison. They even assigned me my own number; 29.

Subject 29. I wondered about the other 28, but I'll never really know anything about them. Maybe they were killed by tests. Maybe they grew old. Or, maybe they were seen as a threat, and executed. That thought triggered something inside of me. I think it's called anger.

I had never felt anything like it before. I realized that I had been used as a lab rat my entire life, and the same had happened to others. Escaping had never crossed my mind before, even though all the tests had given me these amazing capabilities. Then I decided to get out.

I got out of my room, or cell, using my psychic abilities. I just imagined the door flying out of its hinges, and it happened. The hall was solid white, except for the occasional security camera. For a second, since nobody was around, I thought that I was home free. But of course, I was wrong. Red lights suddenly flashed around me and a wailing alarm sounded off. Then, a disturbingly calm voice announced, "Subject 29 has escaped the holding area. All units, surround the exits."

"Damn it," I gasped. I was now running through the identical halls, hoping to get outside before the guards reached the exit. I would be free. I could just barely make out the word "EXIT" at the end of this hall. I was so close. Sure enough, I didn't sense anybody in the area. This was it. I was free.

The fresh air was, undeniably, the best thing ever. All the trees, the grass, the night sky...they were the most beautiful sights I had ever seen. This was the greatest moment of my life. But then I came back to reality. The guards were coming. Instinctively, I ran, and I didn't look back.

At least, not until it struck me. What would I do? I would just be waiting for them to find me. If I was to accomplish anything, I needed revenge. Revenge against the ones who created me.
