Man, I was basically up and about all day cooking :

Carrot and potato potage/soup (My phone captures none of the vibrant colours for some reason ... The potage was a lot more orange.)

A whole duck, orange-flavoured with an orange marmelade sauce, rissolées Parisian potatoes and oven-cooked brocoli with mammoth olives and garlic
[Image: 0vJIslN.jpg]

A sort of blueberry cheesecake, also known as my first time drawing on food
[Image: y51yV8s.jpg]

And now the only time I should be cooking again these holidays is with the VeganEgg, trying to make an omelet or a quiche.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Kai-V - Jan. 17, 2016

Damn yes, I made my first ever quiche with fake eggs and it was super delicious :

Each bite is so soft. And I just cooked the whole pie for at least fifteen minutes longer than the recipe indicated since VeganEggs need to stay in the heat longer to be fully cooked.

Unfortunately, that recipe also confirmed that I needed to submit an order of several VeganEgg containers soon hahah. The scrambled eggs attempt did not convince me that I had missed much by not being able to eat eggs, but this totally does.

Next step : some recipe with crumbing, or scrambled-style eggs inside a recipe.

Has anyone some experience with baking wedding cakes? Looks like I´ll be the one to make ours, but I´m sure I´ll need some advice, because it´s gonna be at least three-tier, rather four or even five... I already asked google and there were some decent tutorials, but especially when it comes to stability issues, some handy hints of someone, who has already made one, would be awesome.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Kai-V - Jan. 29, 2016

Man, I watched some of those extreme cake shows but I did not pay too much attention to the techniques since they all involve eggs hah. I think you could litterally have a pole in the middle ?

I am not sure that anything else can really help with the stability of the whole piece, but there are of course more complex poles.

They look really good! Especially the quiche – not a good thing to see when you're already craving it :\

Have you ever watched Cake Boss? He uses giant rice crispie treats, his carves it into the design his customers want and adds icing for looks. I never understood how that passed as cake...

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Kai-V - Jan. 29, 2016

Ah yes, it was things like Cake Boss, but it has been a while since I have seen that type of show.

Oh, does that mean you´re allergic to eggs?

Yeah, this would definitely make it very stable, but I´m afraid I´d also need some spacers, that prevent the upper cakes from squashing the bottom one and to avoid them piercing into the upper ones I´d need some platters under every cake... Would work, but I´m afraid there will be more reinforement material than dough in the end. XD Or are there poles that are complex enough to hold a whole cake layer?

Check out the succulent meal Valentin cooked me for lunch:

I never tasted salmon this good in my life before.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - ~Stoney~ - Mar. 07, 2016

Gosh, that looks delicious! Fish with rice is one of my absolute favs! Smile

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - DRAGON KING - Mar. 07, 2016

Salmon is my favorite fish to eat, that looks delicious!

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - ~Stoney~ - Mar. 08, 2016

Wait... "Valentin" wouldn´t happen to be Bae Master, would he..??

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - MissingNo. - Mar. 08, 2016

I'm so hungry, damn that looks good !

Also Stoney, you are right, Valentin is definitely Bae Master, haha.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - ~Stoney~ - Mar. 08, 2016

Now I´m REALLY curious...
How can it be that Bae Master is preparing luch for Kai-V?? Are they in a relationship? Brother and sister? Father and daughter? Grin

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Bey Brad - Mar. 08, 2016

That looks great! Good work Valentin!

Guess Stoney doesn't have any friends who know how to cook. lol

Either that, or I'm in a three-way-relationship with Valentin and Kai-V since I've cooked for them both at the same time.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Kai-V - Mar. 08, 2016

He just wanted me to come over to help him study today and offered to cook that for me. We try to cook for each other as much as possible, since we cannot go out to restaurants much and try to eat well more often too. Epicurians yo hahah.

Also oops if I was supposed to use his username instead hah.

I knew that there was something fishy going on... Wink

I do, but since I´m living alone there´s one at home, who can make lunch for me when I get home. Smith And we usually don´t meet to cook together.
So are the three of you living together? Or do you just eat toghether sometimes? I know, I´m not nosy at all... Cute

Edit: Alrighty, things are cleared up now. Thanks Kai-V, now I can sleep soundly. XD

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Bey Brad - Mar. 08, 2016

Kai-V and Valentin hang out a lot more than I see either of them, and it seems like they are always cooking stuff together. It's pretty neat!

Once summer returns, definitely want you two back for yakitori and nasu dengaku again :3

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Bae Master - Mar. 08, 2016

DJ 2002 - Yeah! I was just telling Virginie how I miss yakitori!!!

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Tri - Mar. 08, 2016

Home alone today and I decided to try something new with whatever stuff I might have stocked away in my abyss of a refrigerator.

I decided a quesadilla would be really easy, but I didn't want to make it so basic. I made it with cajun style turkey, bacon, american cheese, shredded lettuce, and other mixed peppers. Just cooked until the cheese was melted and wow. It was awesome.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Kai-V - Apr. 06, 2016

Recently I tried some traditional Indian recipes recommended by my friend Burst. They both use an Indian cheese that is like cottage, but actually has the texture of very firm tofu. It also tastes nothing, so like tofu it mostly tastes whatever it is cooked in.

Here is the first that I cooked, Paneer Makhini, which is mostly tomao-based (with some cream hah):

And this is the spinachy Palak Paneer:

It is too bad because the food probably looks ugly from the photographs, but it was very good. I had watched a show where they revealed that Indian food was not hot/spicy, contrary to popular belief. Instead, it is full of flavours. From what I tried, it was good, but definitely very mild hahah. Burst tells me that some of my ingredients may not be as savoury as they are in India, which definitely makes sense. In any case, the flavours were so toned down that it forced me to have a delicate palate and appreciate the tastes that were just somewhat obscured, compared to our meals full of salt and sugar over here.

Also I really need an industrial mixer, there is no way those small blades at the bottom are the real deal in top-of-the-line mixers...

And paneer is essentially sodium-less and consists of an insignificant number of calories, plus is meat-less of course.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - *Ginga* - Apr. 06, 2016

If you haven't seen it already, check out the movie "The Hundred Foot Journey," with Hellen Mirren. Great movie about the clash between an Indian family who moves to a small French town across the street from a very famous French restaurant. The Indian family opens up a restaurant of their own, using spices and ingredients from their homeland. Very interesting movie for sure, and if you remain interested in that style you should totally check it out. Smile

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Kai-V - Apr. 06, 2016

Ah I did watch it, it was good.

RE: Cooking Thread: your "i cant cook" jokes aren't clever - Bey Brad - Apr. 06, 2016

Curry is hard to photograph well, but that looks pretty good!

Also, movie sounds cool.

I can cook pasta like spaghetti and Macaroni, And know how to make egg dishes like french toasts, and scrambled stuff. I haven't ever tried to make a desi dish but once a certain passes i will work on that too Timing.
