no longer spirals outward when it activates into RHF, it just stays in the center and wobbles. Has this happened to anyone else? It really messes up the Solo spin time.

I did so many tests with your combo just now, there's no way you got over 5 minutes, getting over 4 minutes is an achievement with all the gear, the stadia, and even upgrading the bey.
Dude, i know! I am surprised as well. I did 10 spin time testing with it. Its usually 4:00 to 4:20, then somewhere around 6 or 7th time, it suddenly when to 5:18. When it went to around 4 minutes, i just waited and waited, ready to pause the youtube video to get the time, but it wouldn't stop spinning, it went up to 5:18!

I tried out Flame Aquario 145SF, here are some results:
1. 2:48

3: 2:56
4: 3:07
5: 2:13
Conditions:
Attack Type Beystadium, Launcher Grip with Beylauncher, Straight Shot used. SF Mint. Flame Hasbro Mold.
This seems like it could go for a long time, and then suddenly dies out, happens almost all the times.
I tested it out only 5 times, because I got bored after that...
The above tests are not formal, just a mere solo spin time.

I just followed Mcfrown's advice, and got:
MF-F Rock Pegasis III 90MS=5min.26sec.
MF-F Rock Leone 90MS=5min.22sec.
Rock Leone 90Ms=4min.26sec.
I think that's pretty good for a first try. Later ill try WD, D, and 85.

Thermal actually does quite well in solo spin as long as you've got it on a high enough track/tip combo that it doesn't scrape when it goes into a wobble. DF145WD gets nice times.

My stock Phantom Orion B : D (This was ages ago, of course), new out of the box, had a Solo-Spin of 7:59 in my BB-10, Beylauncher etc. I just really can't believe i didn't record it! >.<
Also, i was quite surprised with this, two things, 1; Cancer's Solo-Spin was quite long, 2; the very, very, big difference between these two solo spins.
