I'd like to have new characters too, but I'm happy with getting returning casts. It has been years, since we've got an evolution from Deathscyther, Wyvern and Zeus (who are all still stuck in the heavily outdated God System) and I think it's about time we got them again.
Phi being "good" won't really have an effect on the anime, since he's most likely not the main antagonist anymore and if anything, it would be interesting to see how Phi is now ever since his defeat. We could see whether he's finally learned the errors of his ways and understood why he lost.

Still doesn't change the fact that there was no season 1 mid evolution. Also Valkyrie is a booster now, and boosters don't get mid season upgrades unless we're talking about the main characters.

If you remember at the end of the anime Hyde said to Phi that they would become more like Valt and Aiga, but if Phi is still bad it could lead to dark resonance in Hyuga and/or Hikaru
