Marutti said the bey will belong to a "rival legend blader" and he said Wakiya is not a rival. He said it's either Phoenix or Genesis.

Wakiya seems like a rival to me, that was his perception and not a fact. Wakiya was a minor but consistent rival to Valt and later bc sol throughout the initial days of beyblade burst

Phoenix would make a lot of sense in this B-177 booster. What marutti meant by "rival" is a "villain". An old rival(former villain) who is a legend blader and Phi/Phoenix makes a lot of sense on this one. I don't really see Gwyn/Genesis as a villain as he became good right at the end of GT after getting defeated.

The term “rival” doesn’t usually imply villains but rather a causal/friendly rivalry. Did the leak actually say that it was a villains bey (Meaning that rival was a misinterpretation)? I’m confused.

 I would say rival is a little misinterpretation. Marutti said it himself in discord that it's either Phoenix or Genesis and that Wakiya is not a "rival". So, what he meant by "old rival" is probably a former villain who is also a legend blader.
