Hey guys! Apologies for longer post! TL;DR below.
One topic that's always hit home with me for Beyblade is just how fun of a hobby it is to have with not just yourself, but friends as well. I got into Beyblade when it first came out; collecting any I could with my allowance and watching the anime on repeat. At this age, my stepbrother and I lived an identical life in our hobbies and interests so he was by my side and joined me in my Beyblade fanclub through which we had each other's company to battle against, theory-craft with and all that.
Metal Fusion's debut took me by surprise. It had been a long while since beyblade was something I followed much and while working in a retail store when it came out, I got first hand looks at the presentation and shelving plans for it all and secretly hid some inventory for myself incase there was a surge of players coming in for beys, which was not the case but it still was fun! I managed to get a coworker/friend of mine into it and through his friends we managed a good 4-5 people all playing, but to my dismay they never took it too seriously and spent a lot more time getting into the drugs/drinking age and finding little time to actually play it much. They'd buy a bey here and there but no where near where I was at with owning them all, crafting ideas and more. Eventually, they stopped all-together and I eventually burned out.
With Burst coming out, I've been purposely avoiding too much hype for it because money has been tight and I've been battling the issue of spending money on beys that may just end up in the closet in a bin covered in dust a year from now. I live in a small, rural town so no chances of local tournaments or anything like that. My nearest toys r us, as an example for a possible meet up spot for fans, is at least 50 miles away deeming it quite a hike for what could be little to no turnout.
TL;DR -- I apologize for the long story, just was trying to paint a picture and mirror the question from it all to you guys maybe in this position; How do you stay into beyblade with a lack of friends to battle with and fuel off each other? There's no doubt it's a huge hobby of mine in the past and still now, but I find it hard to be motivated for Burst when I am sitting home alone most of the day finding the best bey to ultimately never get to use it much if ever.
Hey!
Man, I completely understand your situation, I also live in a small countryside city and my friends are not interested at all into Beyblade. They think it's a children's game and the battles are completely random and depends entirely of luck, and doesn't matter how I try to explain to them, it's always the same.

Just like you, I grew up watching Beyblade on TV since the ver first series and the hobby grew on me since then, even though it was a little hidden for some years, I got back into it a year and a half ago, since then I started a YouTube channel and the the people I met from this channel are those who I consider friends and like the same hobby as I do.

But I never got to any tournament or something like that, because Byeblade wasn't (and isn't) exactly popular here in my country. Sometimes I got a bit sad for being alone like this, just me, and my blades on my room, but it still makes me happy and help with my personal problems. So, I can say, Beyblade motivates me. Smile
I mostly stay motivated because I just love beyblades too much!

I remember when I was maybe 4 or something my mom's friend's son had a decent collection of plastic beys that we would play with. Sometimes when my mom ran errands, we would go to a toys r us and pick up a couple beys. It was so fun.

But later, there were some problems my mom, brother and I had to face, so we had to move 50 miles away from where Austin lived. That led to little to no visits there eventually, and It sucked, but I was just a kid so I don't really remember it too well.

What I DO remember though is how excited I was when I saw beyblades back on shelves around 2008. My mind was blown and I was immediately re-obsessed with them. Lol my first ever bey was flame sagitarrio, it's long gone now, but I remember having so much fun just spinning it on the floor and watching the claws come out.

Ever since then, I have been a huge fan of the game, and all the times I would go to my local Target to sniff out new releases.

I know it's hard to continue to love something such as this or any hobby when everyone you know couldn't care less about it. Believe me, I almost wanted to quit beyblade, after all the times my collections of mfb boys and stadiums were just thrown away because of my grades or all the times they were stolen by someone at school, I became sensitive to my belongings and everything in general. I thought, "Why waste my money on these things if they're just going to disappear again?"

It took me a while to realize that beyblades aren't about appealing to everyone, or trying to get others to play all the time. It's about doing what makes you happy, and that's what beyblades do for me. They make me happy! I just love seeing them smash against each other and parts flying everywhere and the unnecessarily loud noises they sometimes make. It's pure bliss to just forget about the world's problems for a while and just sit down to watch these things battle, reassemble them, and do it all again for as long as it was necessary.

Now I have an even bigger reason to stay true to beyblade, I mean look at Burst! THEY LITERALLY EXPLODE MID BATTLE!! Forget the dual layer breakages, THEY'RE FRICKING EXPLODING TOPS! What more could I ask for?

It's a big investment to really be a genuine fan of beyblade, I mean TT has been sucking a lot of our wallets dry. But ever since I joined the WBO, where you can complain about the prices or praise how Zillion Zeus has metal balls in it, I feel that I really do have a group of friends who share the same passion as much as, if not more than I do.

We are here. Talk to us about beyblade, even if no one else will.

Thanks, BeyGabe, this made me rethink somethings, and stay even more into Beyblade. I was thinking some crazy things, just like you said, but not now! Grin

Also Thanks to you, shadowphoenix, for opening such a good thread. Smile
Thanks guys! I find it mostly easier to stay into beyblade (And really many other things I get into time to time) at the very beginning; especially at a wonderful time now of 'any day now' type of waiting for the North American release for me. I'm excited to look into all the new beys and everything and perhaps visit this site more frequently to make some more friends here!
Toughest part is really not getting to battle friends and get into it with anyone else directly - going to stores to shop for them, customizing them, battling, trading etc.
I hope Burst is great and I'm able to make great friends here Smile

I don't know too much about Burst whatsoever which makes it even more fun!

Thanks for replies, guys! I'm hoping the App will have daily challenges and fun things to do as well!

Glad I could help ;)
I can tell you that I came off the back end of MFB's popularity when I got back into it, and after LA's original host disappeared there was complete inactivity and no events to speak of, so I started from scratch and revived the current LA tournament scene myself. It took a long time, often months of planning and struggling to gather enough attendants, only to reschedule, but I have a drive for this game like nothing else, and Los Angeles now hosts tournaments every month with surprising turnouts and a team of four hosts.

You have to fight for what you care about, the best thing you can do is either keep trying to forge a community where you live in order to host events, or try to travel and visit places like Toronto, Maryland, or even LA where there is already a tournament scene. Burst should provide new opportunities for competition once it goes international.
I completely understand, Where I live there really isn't anyone that cares about Beyblade, but tbh it's never really bothered me mainly because I started when I was about 4 yrs old with the plastic gen and could really relate with the cast of characters, especially Tyson(mostly cause in the 1st season he was chubby like me lol) but my cousin from Toronto was the one that had most of the beys so him and I always battled and we still do, Now he doesn't really have any beys, but I do so whenever he visits we still battle, plus my YouTube Channel really helps it feel so much more fun getting to share my battles with everyone and I don't have too many subs yet, but everyone that comments, subs, and appreciates my vids or just loves Beyblade in general counts, I also decided that if there was anything I'd keep forever from my childhood it'd have to be Beyblade, It's just too fun to give up even if there isn't anyone around my area, I know I've got the rest of the globe & my enjoyment to count on! Beyblade Rocks!!!!
