Quick Poll regarding the current discussion around Dragoon F.

A working group, particularly <DVZ_ME#0> , have done testing and found the drivers that make dragoon most consistent in Classic are Drift, Metal Drift, Bearing Drift, Metal Bearing Drift and the Zone Chip (Hasbro & TT) (aka +Z).

This does leave Hasbro ones off but they seem a lot less concerning, but if they were an issue it could be looked at in future, sure.

Do you prefer to ban these drivers (also hitting A2 BDR), or to flat ban Dragoon F and S.

This thread is not saying it will happen, and is just as a point of reference. Please do not take this as any form of indication of anything other than me personally wanting to know where people are at.

After reading through BWQ's thread "The Dragoon LAD Testing Marathon!", I decided to try some Hasbro Dragoon-F combinations. Hasbro has far fewer good drivers for the combo, but there could still be some that are either viable for play or too powerful to stay legal.

I could not emulate BWQ's testing setup exactly, so this was the best I could do.

Testing Setup
Yell Drift-SP: 8 Wins, 2 Draws
Polish Drift-SP: 8 Wins, 1 Draw, 1 Loss
Drift-SP win percentage: 80%

I mainly tested Drift-SP as the benchmark to see what other parts are competing against, and after twenty rounds it managed a whopping 16 wins. Yell seems like the more consistent disc because Polish never made contact with the stadium even on a draw, and because Polish lost once while Yell only ever Drew. With results like this, it makes sense how this combination can worry some players.

Dragoon-F Polish Bearing vs. Acid Anubis Gravity Orbit
Win Percentage: 40%

BWQ tested Bearing' in her thread, and it performed... okay. It managed to eek out a 60% Win Rate, but she didn't feel confident in its performance. I wanted to see how the Hasbro Alternative combo performed, and shockingly it performed even worse. With a 40% Win Rate, it's far from amazing, and is generally unreliable in this context.

Dragoon-F Yell Assault-Q+Wv vs. Acid Anubis Gravity Orbit
Assault-Q+Wv: 4 Wins, 2 Draws, 4 Losses
Win Percentage: 40%

An attempt to make a Hasbro Alternative to High Wave', the Takara Tomy version of this combo earned itself an 80% winrate. However, this is not the TT version. This version only managed a 40% winrate, I suppose the flattening of Wave's tip in the transition from Wave to +Wv cost it a lot of stamina, as its LAD capabilities were destroyed. Unlike it's TT counterpart, this bey cannot use its height to it's advantage.

Dragoon-F Yell Universe-SPM vs. Acid Anubis Gravity Orbit
Universe-SPM: 5 Wins, 1 Draw, 4 Losses
Win Percentage: 50%

A marked improvement over HasBearing and Assault-Q+Wave, Universe-SPM still didn't perform nearly as well as Drift-SP did. TT's Metal Universe allowed the combo to reach a 60% winrate with 3 wins, 2 draws, and 0 losses. Having a winrate above 50% seemed promising, and inspired me to try the Hasbro Alternative. Seeing that High Wave' liked using Yell because of its height and that Metal Universe performed basically equally between the two discs, I elected to try DgF.Y.Un-SPM over DgF.P.Un-SPM. This didn't really mean much as it managed more losses than draws this time around. I believe it's not the height that hampered this driver, more so the Free-Spinning capabilities. Universe-SPM has much worse free-spin compared to Universe and Metal Universe. Even after lots of use, it still has poor free-spin, which likely hampered the LAD of the combo.

So looking at the current results, Hasbro still doesn't have very competitive Drivers for Dragoon combos. I plan to try more in the future, but these weren't that promising.
With <DVZ_ME#1>’s ban list proposal (found here) taking out a lot of the currently oppressive LAD options to be used on Dragoon, I decided to test out as many options as I could think that were excluded from that list to see what the other stuff can do. I split the drivers into categories, which are: Top Tier LAD Drivers, Mid Tier LAD Drivers, Mixed LAD Drivers, Tall Bois, Wildcards. Wildcard drivers are drivers that I had weird ideas on and wanted to test, because I am a mad scientist and have no clue where the ideas come from.
I split the drivers into categories, which are: Top Tier LAD Drivers, Mid Tier LAD Drivers, Mixed LAD Drivers, Tall Bois, Wildcards. Destroy’ has generally been a pretty good choice for mixed attack use as it has very solid LAD and stalling capabilities. However, the light weight of the Dragoon layer and the higher weight distribution of Yell really hindered it here. It wasn’t able to lean on the dish of Destroy’ properly, causing it to topple over and stop spinning.

Polish Destroy' WR: 60% (3 outspins, 1 loss, 1 draw)
Once Polish is brought in to the picture though, Destroy’ has an extra dish to lean on, allowing it to have more free spinning LAD and dramatically improving its winrate. This is the same phenomenon as with Bearing’ and will require more testing later down the line to properly stack it up to the rest.
Next up is essentially Destroy’s younger and more aggressive brother, Xplosion. Xplosion is a new driver and has very limited testing, but has already found use in anti-attack LAD setups in the Burst GT and Burst Standard formats. I figured it would perform better than Destroy’ due to the wider base, which was proven correct, with only one loss. As a note, I used a worn Xplosion driver as it is more rounded, causing it to be easier to control and giving it slightly better LAD in my experience.

Polish Xplosion (Worn) WR: 80% (4 outspins, 1 loss)

Polish High Xtend+' WR: 80% (4 outspins, 1 draw)
This gave it a surprisingly good amount of LAD when combined with the Stamina of Yell. This goes on the testing list as well.
Polish Kick WR: 60% (3 outspins, 2 losses)
Holy moly, what a difference. No losses, with 2 draws. The extra free spin allowed it to be easier to control as well as gave it much better LAD, which was great to see. This definitely needs further testing as I want to see how controllable it is at proper launch speeds.

After recently acquiring both Wave' and High Wave' for Burst Standard BDr-less testing, I decided to try them out in this format. I was messing with many different setups, which lead me to notice that Wave' was particularly good at same spin Stamina/Defense and had an interesting height advantage, while High Wave' also had an added benefit of Burst Attack mixed in at the cost of needing more balance tuning.

Note
All testing was performed in the B-09 Burst Standard Type Stadium with a DB String launcher.
I do not have access to Hasbro parts and so I could not test against all the extra spicy Hasbro stuff, so I stuck to basic Takara Tomy based tests.

To start off the testing, I wanted to do a basic mirror matchup with Wave' going against Revolve. Here is how the testing went:

Acid Anubis Gravity Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity Revolve (Wave' launched first every round)
[At this point I launched lighter to try and get some pure OS results rather than bursts]
Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' wins by OS (clear win)
Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' WR: 100% (9 burst, 1 OS)

The extra height advantage that Wave' had allowed the disc to make decently regular contact with Revolve's layer, which in turn made it burst almost every round, even on very low RPM. Honestly, I would love if someone with Revolve' could test this for me just to see. Though, I will also note that on the low RPM bursts it was leading to a Wave' OS regardless.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With those results going quite surprisingly, I decided to test it against Orbit this time, to see if it could handle Wave' better. Orbit is one of the strongest Stamina drivers in this format still and some versions can be quite burst resistant.

Acid Anubis Gravity Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity Orbit (Wave' launched first every round)
Wave' WR: 70% (7 OS)

So, it was clear that Orbit could hold on much better in terms of bursting, with absolutely no bursts happening here at all. That being said, while it could occasionally destabilise Wave', it would tend to lose on raw stamina if it failed to do so. So generally, Wave' seems very strong here as well, with the additional height allowing for very close wins even when it loses its balance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To take this to an absolutely clear testing in Stamina, I wanted to see how well it did against the scary Bearing Drift driver, which has terrorised a lot of Burst players across quite a few formats.

Acid Anubis Gravity Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity Bearing Drift (Wave' launch first and then alternating between the two)
Wave' WR: 90% (5 OS, 4 Burst)

So, Wave' managed to beat down on Bearing Drift by using its height advantage and forced Bearing Drift into an LAD state very easily and also managed to burst it often due to the height advantage. The only time it lost was in the first match, where Bearing Drift managed to break free of Wave' grinding it down and allowed Wave' to topple itself over. As you can see though, this did not happen again, as Wave' was able to consistently handle Bearing Drift, even when being launched second.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After these stamina-based tests, I wanted to see how well it could handle a KO attack type. Generally, Wave' seems to have some tank-like defensive capabilities on top of its stamina power, so I wanted to confirm this theory.

Acid Anubis Gravity Wave' vs Valkyrie Heavy Xtreme' (A2 launched first, WBBA X', 90% fresh, Valkyrie has semi worn teeth)
Acid Anubis wins by KO
Wave' WR: 80% (4 OS, 2 KO, 2 Burst)

These results did confirm that Wave' can tank hits quite well, especially considering it was against a Valkyrie KO attack combo. While it had burst Valkyrie a couple of times, the majority of the wins were out-spins that were caused by tanking every hit given by Valkyrie and out-spinning it. I am thoroughly impressed at this point, so I figured it was time to test the High variant of Wave' to see how it fares in similar matchups.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acid Anubis Gravity Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity High Wave' (Wave' launch first then alternate)
High Wave' WR: 90% (3 OS, 6 Burst)

This result, while not entirely surprising, was still quite interesting. High Wave' seemed to take the idea of Wave' having the height advantage and turned it to the max. While it did struggle more with balance occasionally, it was quite consistently able to out-spin Wave'. However, the even more interesting thing to me was how often it was able to burst Wave'. Even though both were on dash springs, High Wave' was able to make pure contact with its disc against the opponents' layer, leading to very consistent burst finishes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the next course of action for me was to test against Orbit in a mirror matchup, as that driver held up the best against Wave'. Midway through the tests, I decided to swap to a different copy of Orbit to see if that would affect the results in any way.

Acid Anubis Gravity High Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity Orbit (High Wave' launched first, then alternating between the two)

An absolutely perfect sweep. Not only did it consistently burst even Orbit, which Wave' struggled to do, but the two times that it didn't, it just burst it near the end of the stamina battle. Very brutal and one sided matchup, Orbit somehow didn't stand a chance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the results being as dominant as they were, I wanted to see how High Wave' fared against KO attack in comparison to Wave'. Same setups as before, just with High Wave' replacing Wave'.

Acid Anubis Gravity High Wave' vs Valkyrie Heavy Xtreme' (A2 launched first, WBBA X', 90% fresh, Valkyrie has worn teeth)
Acid Anubis wins by OS
High Wave' WR: 90% (3 OS, 6 Burst)

Yet again, a very clean sweep against Valkyrie. However, the interesting point is that while it had a similar win rate to Wave', it won in a completely different manner. Unlike Wave', which simply tanked attacks and aimed for an outspin, High Wave' would just burst Valkyrie constantly, whether on low or high RPM contact. The only times it didn't burst were either out-spins or the singular KO that Valkyrie managed to land, which is pretty remarkable. Yet again, it made a lot of disc contact, allowing for easy Burst finished.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, I wanted to see if High Wave' could work well on a different combo, which was a Burst Attack focused combo similar to the Wolborg Bumper Bullet combo that Wombat had made ages ago. While I did not have Bumper at the time, I decided to use Down as it could work similarly. (Hound Dog is the same as Wolborg, just the Korean release)

Hound Dog Down High Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity Revolve (Hound Dog launched first and then alternating between the two)

While Hound Dog did not have the same raw Stamina as Acid Anubis, it did induce even stronger Burst finishes, allowing for some very explosive Bursts. Interesting combo, though I personally feel like there are better parts suited to this purpose, the idea and results are still here.

Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' wins by Burst
Wave' wins by Burst

[Started first 5 rounds with light launches]
Wave' wins by OS (extremely close, almost draw)
Wave' wins by OS (extremely close, almost draw)

Acid Anubis Gravity Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity Bearing Drift (Wave' launch first and then alternating between the two)
Wave' wins by Burst

Acid Anubis wins by Burst
Acid Anubis wins by OS
Acid Anubis wins by OS
Valkyrie wins by KO
Acid Anubis wins by Burst

High Wave' wins by Burst

Acid Anubis Gravity High Wave' vs Acid Anubis Gravity Orbit (High Wave' launched first, then alternating between the two)
High Wave' wins by Burst
High Wave' wins by Burst
High Wave' wins by Burst
High Wave' WR: 100% (2 OS, 8 Burst)

As Burst classic has come into existence, several high-power parts have been allowed and eventually have been banned or put on a watch list.

However, BSC has the issue with Drift and by extension Bearing Drift that is plaguing the format. For Drift in specific it’s high stamina and LAD and defense makes the meta somewhat centralize towards that combo of Dragoon Gravity Drift/Bearing Drift (there are combo variations).

The issue here is that Dragoon F does not have much coverage to be countered against having the meta Revolve towards Burst Classic Dragoon addition.

The suggestions to have is specifically to get out Bearing Drift and Drift, to keep as close as possible to avoiding MAX LAD format and keep classic fun, it would be best if we could remove it as it would allow for more diversity.

Okay, I'm having a bit of fun here - but hey, old school combo thread shenanigans!*

<DVZ_ME#2> off-handedly mentioned that Chaos is a hell of a layer but really struggles to keep itself together. This got me thinking. I tried something, and quickly mentioned it to someone who I knew (kinda inadvertently) had the parts as well as plenty of knowledge of the format, <DVZ_ME#3>. From there, he and I have been testing (and as of today, test-driving) this goofy looking abomination unto the format for a little while (enough to wear out the teeth on mine and break his original one ).

See, Classic isn't home to many Dash-Springed Stamina Drivers, but one has recently made its way in... High Xtend+'. As you see from the image above, HXt+' doesn't look that imposing, it's tall but classic is not really friendly to super tall drivers... And with most Classic Layers, it really isn't an issue.

Chaos though. Chaos, when it keeps itself together, not only has a fantastic Weight Distribution and overall great Stamina, but it also has the ability to smack opposing layers into bursting with shocking consistency. Together, these two outsider-pick parts become a lot more than the sum of their parts - with just enough LAD and Force Smash to trouble Dragooon, the ability to burst anything that can OS it, and the ability to OS anything it can't burst, this nasty little set-up, when balanced and launched properly, matches up impressively well against pretty much any opposing passive combo in the format (60-90% across every notable stamina combo I put together with a broad range of drivers), as well as forcing ties via double-burst against a lot of Burst Attackers (not shown in my tests because it's a right pain to redo rounds that much) and with some clever banking (and some burst victories) it can be somewhat annoying for attack, though this is its best counter.

Obviously, totally disrupting the intricate stamina sub-meta of Burst Classic is a big claim. As such, I've come not only bearing tests, but <DVZ_ME#3>, my "co-conspirator" also took the combo for a spin today in Pick 3, Choose Attack! in Maryland - going solo with it the entire thing, and winning the tournament with only 2 losses! Big shout out to him for helping try it out after my quick initial impression and encouraging me to really dive in deep with this one.

First off, as you can see from the results in Maryland today, where it only lost to attack but stomped (most) stamina and stallers*, it works well in an actual Tournament (turns out testing can be an indicator of this, crazy!). But the tests are pretty imposing, especially as I only did the formal testing of this combo after hundreds of rounds of informal testing, and being on a strong Dash driver the whole time has lead to tooth wear on my Chaos. As such, some of the results below are sort of a "worst case", when the teeth were in better condition, especially against Neptune, the bursts would usually either not happen or go the other way.

*A loss to Yegdrion Heavy Yard-S was a surprise, but Chaos won the rematch.

Missing Tests
Deathscyther Heavy Revolve - Yes this is the premier stamina combo of the format and no I don't have the tests here. Broyeeto did do preliminary testing using Gravity on Chaos on this but broke his layer before we could do full testing, and my Deathscyther's teeth are shot. Generally it comfortably wins against this via burst primarily.

Part Condition
For optimal performance, Chaos needs to be in good condition. Its short teeth don't wear fast but hundreds of rounds will do it. When a beyblade loses burst resistance like that, the slipping past a click also reduces its ability to burst opponents, and this becomes quite an issue for Chaos, especially against things like Neptune, Odin, and Orpheus O2. Also like many Classic combos, C.H.HXt+' needs to be balance tuned for proper effectiveness (though Broyeeto has had some more luck with it being somewhat off, I find this loses key OS victories).

Alternative Parts
Gravity can give Chaos more KO Defense. Hasbro's Heavier version of Yell can do similar, though does have some stamina trade-off. Low hanging disks can be used (Down is interesting), and Quarter can do some interesting things. Overall though, Heavy is the best option for Stamina, which ends up being the most important thing here. Other Stamina layers don't tend to make good enough use of HXt+' to get the Bursts, though Psychic Phantom can be interesting with its underside slopes. The combo also works okay on Wave', though the stamina isn't quite enough to secure key victories it still makes for quite a respectable combination and may be decent should HXt+' get the axe. Chaos will generally work well on any Dash-equipped Stamina Driver (eg Zn'+Z using the Hasbro Z chip is also quite imposing, were it legal), meaning these are something to be wary of allowing into Burst Classic. It may be worth testing Caynox on something like Revolving-SPM in case it is one of the weirdly tight layers on it.

Anyway, onto the tests:

All tests are conducted in the Burst Standard Stadium using DB Custom Launchers with Power Gears and standard prongs. Same-Spin stamina matches were conducted using a T-Grip and a hard launch. For other tests, launch details are noted.
<DVZ_ME#2> off-handedly mentioned that Chaos is a hell of a layer but really struggles to keep itself together. This got me thinking.

Overall, the combo poses a pretty severe threat to the balance of the Stamina sub-metagame, as well as a few other things. As Broyeeto showed today, it doesn't struggle to make the transition to a tournament setting like many other combos either, making for a bad time for those wanting to enjoy Burst Classic.
Seriously though, this is an homage to the combo threads full of hype and bluster we had a decade ago - where combo creation and thread-making was treated with the same level of competitiveness as actual tournament play.
Concept
Inferno Ifrit Heavy Reboot' would probably be best classified as a Stamina/Attack hybrid, more specifically a strange hybrid between a Mixed Attacker and a Smash Attacker. Both of these types that make up its, uh, typography generally only perform well in same-spin matchups, which is great, because Burst Classic, the format that I'm testing the combo in, is probably the most single spin format in all of Beyblade. Basically, this combo aims to OS its opponent via Smash Attack, though it can serve as a decent Mixed Attacker as well.

Parts
Inferno Ifrit: The contact points and raised shape of I2 make it perfect for smashing, and while it is quite burst resistant, it's somewhat easy to break, so be careful. Basically, this layer is Deku. It also has around Neptune-levels of Stamina on its own, and as Mixed Attackers already incoroprate elements of Tornado Stallers, it can also function as a decent Tornado Staller.
Heavy: It's heavy and has a lot of CWD, which is good for Smash and synergizes especially well with the Driver because of this. Yell could also work (especially if you have a heavy one), since it continues I2's shape kinda well.
Reboot': The mini tip that comes out at the beginning of the battle provides for controllable movement, a few extra mm of height, better RPM retention at the start of battle, and the ability to launch pretty much as hard as you want without self-KOing. One of the main drawbacks to Smash Attack is that it takes so much vertical recoil, so sometimes after a big hit you end up just as destabilized as your opponent. However, when the Reboot activates, dropping onto the larger surface area will often cause the combo to restabilize and continue to attack its opponent.
For both Revolve and Ab-S, I flat hard launched them and hard sliding shot I2. It more about even with a top level Revolve/Ab-S combos, when it was unable to burst them. Getting the launch angle right is important here, since they are both stationary cones and I2 needs a lot of contact to win. If I did that, I2 would generally knock A2/DzF off balance pretty easily or grind down its stamina. If I2 didn't get a lot of early game contact and then stalled when the reboot kicked in, it would lose. The bursts could happen at any stage of the battle really, though they were more common after the reboot had activated. I don't have a newton-meter, but based on how much it bursts I'm pretty sure I don't have the 2N version of Ab-S. Even so, I2 has a good chance to OS, unlike right below where nothing bursted.

Alternative stamina type strategy: hard sliding shoot might help avoid early hits that could burst a 1N Ab-S, but at the cost of starting off the battle already a lil destabilized. It's up to your risk.
I straight hard launched Y1 and did the same for I2 for like the first 2 rounds before I realized it wouldn't work in a solo testing environment, then I switched to hard sliding shoot.

The Y1 combo pretty much hard countered I2, which is more or less what I expected. Yr-S in general should be a pretty solid answer to this combo, since it is both a ball and tall, which counters the I2 combo's gimmick. I figured there'd at least be a few bursts, but my new Yr-S is just too tight. 3 of the ties were double bursts though.

In a 2-player match I2 should have a decent window of landing an early game hit and KOing a hard-launched, stalling Yr-S, if the mini-tip on Rb' catches the Tornado Ridge well. That's what I was trying to do in the first match but Yr-S was running out of steam too fast.
I didn't particularly stick to one strategy for the V2 (flat launching/stalling vs. sliding shoot at various angles) because I didn't really find one to be particularly more effective than another.
I wasn't really sure how to approach this, as I2. For Dragoon I just weak launched, though my Drift is so tight that I can get away with launching a little less carefully(?) with my weak launch. First I tried mid-strength Sliding Shooting it, just before the Reboot activated, to see if I could score an early game KO or Burst with the more aggressive shaped tip (despite my lower speed). I knew the mini tip was not going to KO it even with a stronger launch, but then I thought I had a smart idea: I would hard sliding shoot it to "charge it up" and then switch to the more aggressive and vibration movement to try and burst the now faster-spinning Dragoon. I felt like an anime character, until that didn't work either, and the charged up Dragoon actually KOed/bursted I2 once. Finally I just tried stalling I2 and finally won on a late round, so I decided to keep going to see if this strategy would change things.

I noticed how tall Universe-SPM was when compared to other drivers, and thought it could be used as a Bullet Substitute/Replacement. So decided to do some testing. I used a single combo to use for testing: Yegdrion Y2.Yell.Universe-SPM. The idea behind this combo was the same as most Bullet Combos: Using the height of the driver to create more consistent disc-to-layer contact, and to avoid head-on attacks to the disc. I tested it against 5 separate combos.
It seems like High Blow' is weaker than its normal height counterparts as the tall height makes it more susceptible to KOs and being destabilized. Although HB' seems to counter stationary attack, and left spin can't counter it because DGF is too frail. All of the tornado stall dash drivers would have a counter if there was a competent left spin layer in the format, of course it would still need to have the LAD reduction DGF has to have counters.

I don't really have a prescriptive opinion on High Blow' other than to give in time in a tournament to see. It could be too reliable of a safe pick in first stage.
