Anyway, I can't get my gif to work. I upload it from my desktop and it doesn't move a bit.
I provide a direct url and it says its too big, what do I do?

i'm having the same problem so i cba make my own thread.
out of curiosity would i need to upload the gif and make it 120x120 before i can use it?
or can i simply just upload it from my com because i notice that when i did that my gif does not animate.

Try uploading it to ImageShack.us, take the Direct Link, and use it in your User Control Panel. That should work. There might be issues when trying to upload animations directly from your computer, but I do not really know about them.

fixed it
going to write procedure down incase other people get this problem one day.
1. you can't upload gif files, the server converts it to jpg or something auto.
2. to use gif as avatar you need to link it from website/host (wherever the gif was uploaded, i.e. photobucket, imageshack, etc.). then insert link to where it says "Avatar URL". Gif size must not be bigger than 120x120 pixels. if you have trouble finding gif smaller than that then use this site:
RESIZE GIF

using picasion, set SIZE to 100px wide (or set it to custom and do it the way you want) and QUALITY to Best!

you haven't identified the file type. jpg, png, gif, etc.
and are you sure its the correct image url?
