RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Nocto - Sep. 12, 2015

After watching so many episodes of the original series in Italian, I forgot how catastrophic the English dub was. Truly, I wouldn't recommend to anyone touching that thing without a ten-foot pole.

I might see about subtitling some Italian episodes if it hasn't been done.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Kai-V - Sep. 12, 2015

Nice, the Italian dub of Bakuten Shoot Beyblade was also very close to the original, like for Metal Fight Beyblade ? I never really knew, except that they did have some cut scenes that Nelvana had removed ... I for one would be immensely interested in a sub of the Italian, because a sub of the Japanese version seems sort of out of reach after all these years.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Bey Brad - Sep. 12, 2015

Well, you could apply the translation of the Italian translation to the Japanese episodes. Wouldn't be perfect but ...

I wouldn't know how close the Italian dub is to the Japanese one, as I know nothing of Japanese, but I would assume it's closer. They kept the Japanese names and soundtrack. Plus, the story actually makes sense, unlike in English.

I like that Nelvana tried to make something that might speak to an American audience, like presenting the matchs as televised sporting events -- the context allows for such liberties -- but they went too far, and it ended up a monumental failure. The voice acting is pretty much terrible as well, and that seems to have carried over to Metal Fight, though I haven't watched much of it.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Kai-V - Sep. 12, 2015

At least in Metal Fight Beyblade, the script was identical for the most and they kept the music and the episode titles, I think. The Bakuten Shoot Beyblade dub in English is the biggest representation of "cheesy".

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Bey Brad - Sep. 12, 2015

Yeah, I actually did find the televised sports nature of the dub pretty interesting, but it also intruded on a lot of the show's better moments.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Nocto - Sep. 18, 2015

So, there is a way to automatically delay every subtitles. For @[Bey Brad] and others interested, here you go:
However, a few disclaimers:
- This is an English translation from Italian, not Japanese.
- Those are not new subtitles: I changed the timecode to account for the shorter intro and the commercial break animations. That's it.
- I will not post updates or announce the new videos: The uploaded videos will remain unchanged and it will be up to those interested to keep track of them.

On this, enjoy (or not).

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Kai-V - Sep. 18, 2015

Oh yo, Fighting Spirits on top of that, this is paradise.

I am not too certain what you will not be posting updates about; could you at least let us know when you have an Italian episode done and translated ?

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Nocto - Sep. 18, 2015

The Italian subtitles are the main thing, and of course I'll update the main thread anytime I upload a new episode. However, adding those subtitles to the Japanese episode is a side, coffee-break thing. It's not real translation and it's just not worth posting about. People wanting to see those will have to keep track themselves.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Kai-V - Sep. 18, 2015

Oh awesome then, because I do not check the email associated with my YouTube account anymore, so as much as I would have wanted to I do not subscribe to channels anymore hah.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Bey Brad - Sep. 18, 2015

I'm definitely going to watch this. Thank you!

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - xVaretyr - Sep. 22, 2015

I started watching Metal Masters and now I'm on ep 10. I have some huuuuge catching up to do. I stopped watching after the first season since I can't find english subs. 3 years later, I'm now 3 series behind you guys Unhappy (Metal Masters, 4Ds, Zero-G)

How I wish I returned sooner.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Meta madness - Sep. 22, 2015

Metal masters...Woo, gotta love the Gracie's. Seemed to have one the best motives in that season. Though gotta love the...interactions between some teams and characters.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - ThaKingTai - Sep. 23, 2015

Was there any explanation to why Pre-HWS Aquario was in the anime?

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Ultra - Sep. 23, 2015

From what I remember no there wasn't.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Kai-V - Sep. 23, 2015

Like the whole Beyblade anime, it is just a huge television ad, so TAKARA-TOMY wanted to release it as part of the "Premium Returns" short series and so they wanted to advertise it via the anime to get people to buy it.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Jinbee - Sep. 23, 2015

Great, now every time I realise that they blatantly advertise by showing the beyblade into our faces in the anime, something always pictures in my head, remember that live adaptation of A Cat In A Hat? One moment the Cat says "Cha-ching!" (or the money sound effect) when blatantly advertising the theme park ride, that always pictures in my head, or sometimes I pause the episode just to shout "Cha-ching!" or "In stores now! Seriously... its its right there...".

Yeah but why have a purple pre HWS virgo though when the only purple one released was in RB2? That was just an odd choice. Also though you probably got this he meant an in anime explanation for pre HWS beyblades when every other beyblade up to that point were hybrid wheel system.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Dracomageat - Sep. 24, 2015

Not sure if this belongs here or not but I couldn't see an anime questions thread:

The official soundtrack for the plastics era anime is roughly half songs not written for beyblade (such as "year 300", "girls and boys" and "buck rodgers"). Did these ever appear in the anime or its film and, if not, what is their reason for being on the soundtrack?

I've found this to be true for things other than Beyblade, so I wouldn't consider it too unusual. For example, my sister owns both the Twilight and Hunger Games soundtracks, and while playing through them she would constantly comment on how "this song wasn't even in the movie" or "this song doesn't have anything to do with the movie". My guess is that the artists get some percent of the revenue from sountrack sales, so they will pay to have their song included on a franchise they think will net them more money.

One thing I've always wondered is why Sora has such a huge following despite being a pretty irrelevant character in the anime (maybe he plays a larger role in the manga?). Literally the two Sora based episodes could be cut from the MFB anime and it would still make as much sense as a TV show about spinning tops can make. People will always argue that he's a "better protagonist" than Gingka without really giving a good reason why, aside from "his voice is less annoying" which it probably is, if I could remember what it sounds like. I'll admit that Cyber Pegasus is cooler looking than Storm Pegasus, but a cool Beyblade doesn't make a good protagonist.

Another thing that's been kinda bothering me lately is that Dragoon is an air-element Bit Beast, when its name is clearly a portmanteau of Dragon and Lagoon, implying association with water. Is Seiryuu supposed to be associated with air? Because that would explain Dragoon, but Draciel is water and I'm pretty sure Genbu is associated with earth (or maybe I'm only thinking that because Bandid Genbull is an Earth Element).

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Meta madness - Sep. 24, 2015

Yeah, Sora had a more built up character in the manga, he was pretty much seen often, making it into battle bladers as well as being there to celebrate Gingkas victory after the world tournament.

Clear based on what especially since he has no association with water at all? I think you're looking to deeply into it and they probably just added another o to the word dragon to make dragoon. Furthermore in the original japanese version only the beyblade is called Dragoon whereas the bit beast is Seiryuu. So it probably makes less sense in the english version because of that.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Dracomageat - Sep. 24, 2015

Seiryuu, the blue dragon, is aligned with the wood (nature) element but often mistaken for water because of his colouration. What his relation to air is, besides not fitting the other elements of Beyblade, I don't know.

Okay, Team GanGanGalaxy vs Wild Fang was epic...

Huh? What makes you think it's not just a stylistic spelling, or the fact that Dragoon is a real word?

And yes, Dragoon is actually a wood-element beast, because it's literally meant to be the Japanese god Seiryu. (And is referred to as such in the Japanese releases. "Dragoon" is the Beyblade only, not the Beast within it.)
