RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Strider Xanthos - Jul. 04, 2019

Decided to watch the most polarizing episode/battle of G Revolution: Ray vs GOD,,,i mean Moses, I mean Crusher.
I don’t think Crusher is playing the crowd to be sympathetic to Monica. Some athletes, gamers, and “sports” player dedicate their matches for people they care about. Its not really inhumane just to consider he just wanted people to wish Monica the best.
And people say black characters in anime are only designed two ways.
I forgot this was back when bladers could use guns as launchers.
I LOVE when the show has Ray use martial arts like he’s hitting the opponent just as Driger hits.
Wait a minute, Gigars is a Balance type? Huh, I could’ve swore it was Endurance or Defense back then. With that heavy weight, it kinda reminds of Dead Hades. So if Ray’s Driger a Balance type that focuses on speed and precision (probably attack and stamina), Gigars is either defense/stamina or attack/defense theme.
Okay, G Revolution had the BEST unique stadiums. Burst is more realistic, but I’d love for them to have more fun stages like this outside of the Viking Stadium.
Hobo Kai, cute.
When Ray montages but he has Hillary being pouty and Kai never looking at them, its always the little things.
I’m not going to make any onii-chan jokes, but it would be cool if Monica became a blader in Rising like Koji in ChoZ….but handled better.
And now I’m suddenly watching Dragon Ball Z: Beyblade edition.
So Moses’s Gigars is a Gilgamesh…a demigod with super strength to protect his people from outside threats? And he wants to save Monica, alright fine.

Okay, so Ray lost. I don’t think its as bad as people make it out to be. Ignoring the rock of love/sibling hood, if both beys have stadium out, Ray would’ve won. Remember Kai vs Zeo had theirs jumping out of the stadium from the stands to the walls, to the judging booth to the steel bars about the stadium but they weren’t counted as stadium outs. By the original trilogy rules, Ray technically won.

Hell I give Moses mad credit for admitting he should’ve won. Also can we point out that Ray actually destroyed someone’s bey. Like the battle itself was great, but Ray “crushed” Gigars before Aiga made main protagonists destroying beys relevant. That’s kinda awesome looking back.

Okay, that hug at the end was really sweet. So yeah, the ending is a bit polarizing, but imo Ray won the battle but lost the war. Then again, its Ray’s thing to have a super awesome match near the end of the season, only this time he wasn’t the one getting injured lol. I enjoyed it.

Oh and happy Fourth of July...probably should've watch a Max episode instead....Americans in Beyblade though, gotta think about that.

What’s the best site that has the most recent episodes up the day they’re released that can be used on Mobile? I couldn’t bring my computer to a 1 month trip, so I can’t use a VPN to watch it legit.

Oh, it's alright, I know what image you're talking about. It's definitely an edit-- Hiro Morita definitely can't do that sort of stuff considering the series is geared towards a younger audience... although I am a bit worried about the image considering it's not only an edit but could hurt his image as a manga writer... but I'm probably thinking too much about it...

Im not too sure about that. I remember Valt cussing, and we all know how cussing in works for younger audiences is also not (really) welcomed in the USA. Then again, I think in Japan its okay to cuss in speech (the middle finger is a different story)

He called aiga a carp in episode 1 of choz

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Okanie - Jul. 06, 2019

He didn’t though? That was kind of a mistranslation as “kono” can me “this guy” or “this”, so he was most likely saying “this guy...!” And not that...

It was also in the manga, I believe. Valt said something like b****** or s***

And oh, Shu kicking Valt under the belt is also DEFINITELY for kids (found in manga)

If it’s something like “konoyaro” or something like that— it can have a lot of meanings to it. It doesn’t necessarily mean “carp” but it can mean “you prick” or something like that— depending on tone and character. It’s not as direct in English where we have a set meaning to words, Japanese is more of what’s being said then what it actually means. There’s a lot of definitions for one word in Japanese...

Coro Coro tends to have a lot of potty humor since it’s geared towards a younger male audience, many other series in the magazine tend to have that same type of humor... even in the special they have the protagonists grabbing each other by that... so it’s kind of thinking along the lines of... gross humor that young guys would be into. Like a boy not washing their hands after using the washroom— like what Valt did in the manga— and that’s considered funny to a younger male audience... or how Aiga is a junk food eater and has a lot of gas in him— it’s a lot of bathroom humor in general.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Cat - Jul. 06, 2019

Um, yeah... Translating potty-mouth is an interesting matter.  Cussing in English and cussing in Japanese don't literally mirror each other.  In the anime, Silas refers to nearly everyone as "野郎" or yarō.   It could be translated as "that jerk" or "that f***er" and both are technically correct. (Another reason they can't just run the episode's script through a bot to save time making fansubs).

Japanese has four levels of politeness.  Speaking in the vulgar level 1 is socially unacceptable in most situations, and no parent in Japan or the West wants their kids copying that example, but it isn't the same thing as uttering a four-letter-word that needs to be bleeped for broadcast.

Shaman King's dub got away with two 13 year olds calling each other a jacka##, and kids under the age of 11 use carp. Then again is carp a curse cuz I've never heard anyone get in trouble for using it.

RE: Random Beyblade Anime and Manga Thoughts - Okanie - Jul. 06, 2019

Shaman King might be geared towards an older audience along with the English language does not follow the same rules in respect as most Asian languages do. While Valt does sound like he’s using the word ‘carp’ — in which he’s not— he’s actually using ‘this guy’ in more of a negative tone. Basically what Cat said before—it could be translated in that way but doesn’t necessarily mean that.

In English, carp kind of is at the same level as with other curse words, but it really depends on how others see it, I think.

I think in episode 6 of Cho Z (Sub not dub) Gumita says no f****** way. It could have been subbed wrong.

What was the actual word for it? Cause it could have been translated in that way, but not necessarily mean that?

Edit: okay, so I went back and rewatched the episode and Aiga didn’t say that nor “what the h”— Aiga mostly refers to “those guys...!” Which can be translated as “a##holes” but does not actually mean that, if that makes sense? But it’s literally just “Those guys.”

And the “what the h” part just means “what”. That’s the word for it so not necessarily meaning “what the h”—

Man, Aiga apparently has a potty-mouth in the subs? Original he isn’t that vulgar in cussing?? Sorry, I find that a bit weird...

Kai and Tala vs F Dynasty in a tag match would've been awesome. At least to see Kai and Tala struggle to work as a team. Dranzer's Fire, Wolborg's Ice...huh they might actually make a water special move lol.

Speaking of Tala, if you transplanted Tala/Wolborg and Free/Fafnir in either one's universe, who would win that battle?

If Free got amped up to G-Revolution blader level of strong, he might have a chance to take away Wolborgs spin and finish him off with a Breaker move, although Wolborg does have freezing abilities so it could trap Fafnir and smash it.

Well.. both he and especially Ranjiro talk like from some yakuza movie so I don't think it's unfair for it to be translated that way.

I don't think it's necessarily that, but more in a colloquial sense-- they talk more in an informal way compared to the other cast who kind of follow the rules or respect in most Asian languages when speaking. I don't think due to talking casually would mean you would talk in a gang or a yakuza sense... It'd be kind of saying that everyday language that we use is in a gang sense-- while Aiga and Ranjiro have a rude way of talking, they're not exactly spitting out curses here or there. They're just more informal with the way they speak...

Although, this is from my own experiences with growing up learning an Asian language. While casual/informal ways of speaking can be common among gangs and stuff-- it can also be common with most friend groups or to those you have no respect for. It's just kind of a lesser level of respect... but doesn't really equate to cursing like English has it...
