Help a newbie select his first purchase :) - Slashend - May. 27, 2017

So... I'm going to buy a relatively old beyblade for a non-customized out-of-the-box beyblade shop tournament. The stadium to be used is a relatively basic burst stadium with no special gimmicks whatsoever. Among these (which are the only ones available in the store), which would be the best overall beyblade (not counting the supplied bey / light launcher) and why?

I'm currently leaning towards defense, so Wyvern and Kerbeus are looking good at the moment.  But I'm not sure whether or not they would pack top tier parts or at least useful ones.  Since this beyblade will also be reused often, rubber tips might not be such a great idea for me unless they really define the meta.

Thanks in advance!

  • Valkyrie v2 B.V.
  • Kaiser Kerbeus L.P.
  • Xeno Xcalibur M.I.
  • Wild Wyvern V.O.
  • Storm Spriggan K.U.
  • Obelisk Odin T.X.
  • Rising Ragnaruk G.R.
  • Holy Horushood U.C.
  • Dark Deathscyther F.J.

Well, first and foremost it depends on the ruleset of the tournament. If they run standard Japan or WBO rules Dark Deathscyther will be banned, if he's not banned then Dark Deathscyther is the one you want to go for. Yes it's billed as an attack type, but honestly stamina is its strongsuit. Even with the Jaggy tip it can pull off a surprising degree of stamina. Not to mention the layer itself, it has a fair degree of burst resistance and its shape makes for an impressive degree of spin time.

If they are running the rules that we use at WBO or the rules in Japan then you wont be able to use Dark Deathscyther, because it's been banned in both formats. In this situation I'd say going for Kaiser Kerbeus would probably be your best bet, but that's only because it's the best of a bad bunch. Valkyrie has a terrible driver, xeno xcalibur has a terrible driver, wild wyvern has no teeth, storm spriggan has no teeth, Obelisk Odin is okay but you said you leaned toward defense and that really is pure attack- also its teeth are lacking, rising ragnaruk has no teeth.

Holy Horushood might also be a good pick for you. It's a stamina type, and sort of the opposite of Dark Deathscyther. While the set is billed as stamina, it has some good attack potential, and the Layer and Disc show that off the best. Upper and HH go together fairly well, but they aren't made for stamina. Claw, on the other hand, is supposed to be a stamina driver- though it doesnt really see competitive play anymore because it's pretty trash compared to pretty much everything else on offer.

If I were you I'd choose between Kaiser Kerbeus, Holy Horushood and Dark Deathscyther, depending on whether D2 has had the ban for this tournament or not.

I'd say odin cos after deathscyther it got all the praise and combined with orbit is said to be a tier bey. I don't know much about the burst scene but that's what I can say from what I heard around the forum. Anyways the god layers are probably better than the original dual layer system now that deathscyther is gone imo.

Reminder he's going to a stock-combo tourny Tongue_out

I'd say holy horusood/keroberos is a good bet if you can't use death scyther, odin is quite a good stock bey but you lean more to defense but it is decent and is relatively cheap

Ah yh shouldn't have jumped from the first line to the list. But tbh if it's a local shop tourney outside of Japan then there's no ban on D2 so wouldn't that make it the best option? Though I'm not too sure of d2 hasbro ver but the takara ver was good.

It has okay attack power, sure, but OP clearly stated this preferred style was defensive based and that he was edging away from rubber due to prolonged use

Xeno Xcalibur is actually decent as non-customized, plus the sword launcher is amazing.

RE: Help a newbie select his first purchase :) - Blader ZK7 - May. 28, 2017

Attack:Valkryie (Valtryek) V1 Wing Accel(good attack with surprisingly good stamina for a attack bey) or Xcalius aka Xcalibur Force Xtreme (Insane attack power, 0 stamina). Defense: Kaiser Kerbeus Limited Press(Use it all the time at school. Battle with classmates, always win). Stamina: Roktavor(Ragnaruk) R2 Gravity Revolve(decent defense, great stamina. Just what you want from a stamina bey) OR Zillion Zeus Infinity Weight(I'm pretty sure that is the best stamina bey.). Balance: Gigant Gaia Quarter Fusion(If you need a quick burst, just call Gigant Gaia.

So I say get Kaiser Kerbeus

RE: Help a newbie select his first purchase :) - Suzaku-X - May. 28, 2017

So, I know everyone has already weighed in, but I will put my 2 cents in.

K2 is pretty good at defense, it has pitiful stamina though. Better than W2.
W2 is a really bad layer and disc. Don't use it.
H2 is decent. Use if no other options.

If you can only use from that list, go with D2, or if you can't, K2. If you can use single layers though, Valkyrie or Xcalibur are basically really good, although Xcalibur has rubber. OG Kerbeus is also an acceptable option.

EDIT: Scratch Valkyrie. It has HORRIBLE tooth wear issues, and will start sucking after like 20 matches.
