Just click the Wii Message Board button in the bottom right of the main menu, then the Create Message button in the lower left and pick the address book. Your number will be on the very front page.

Brawl has its own separate number independent of the Wii number.

Its like this for every online game on the Wii, actually.
The Wii numbers are just used so you can send eachother Mii's and messages.

You also need to have a person registered as your Wii friend and Brawl friend if you wish to send them videos/pictures/stages. I find that kind of stupid.
