Benjamin Button - The_Lumberman - Jul. 23, 2009

Has anyone else seen this film? I was really curious to what people OUTSIDE of imdb thought.

Warning: SPOILERS

I'm very on the fence to whether I thought this movie was JUST okay or just unenjoyable. It was an interesting idea to say the least, but I kept wondering what the point of all this was. The acting was superb through out, which is a lot coming from me. I think Brad Pitt hams it in most of the time. I think my favorite part of the film was the make up effects used on Cate Blanchett. She looked so young, it was incredible.

Other than the fact Benjamin aged backwards his life wasn't all that interesting though. I found it very hard to root for his romance for the most part, since the Daisy character seemed to drop in and out of his life whenever she damn well fancied in the beginning. I didn't really see that OTL attraction that was there. If anything they seemed like good friends. It had it's moments though, I found most of the old man-child parts to be pretty entertaining. Lightening guy was hilarious too, though I kept expecting his stories to have a point.

Ultimately what happened? The both died unhappy deaths apart from each other. He a huge burden and her alone in a hospital (BTW, what was with her narration? It was clear the audience could barely understand her). The clock side story didn't really serve much of a point, the film would have been fine if they cut it. Oh, the clock counts backwards? Very clever.

I felt pretty empty when I finished watching this, but I have to acknowledge it wasn't a bad movie. I just keep failing to see why every critic gushes over this.

What does everyone else think?

I liked this movie. It makes me wonder that he was born an old man out of his mother's womb. Then he started becoming a spoiled brat as he got younger.
