Christmas! - Kei - Dec. 12, 2007

Ooooh yeah, only 14 more days! So, what is everyone doing for Christmas? Got any special plans? Family visiting? Any special presents you're hoping for? And best of all, no school! I'm pretty sure it's not just me who is looking forward to that.

For me, my brother from Montreal is staying over for a couple weeks starting at Christmas, so that should be loads of fun. Also, my other brother along with my nephew should be coming over as well for Christmas. There's also some other relatives that will be visiting us in the days leading up to Christmas.

It's just so hard to not be happy at this time of the year. Smile

RE: Christmas! - Roan - Dec. 12, 2007

My mom is hosting the family get-together at our house this year so I'm sure my parents will be stressed out and monster bitches.

I dislike Christmas. :\

I don't understand why people insist on staying in touch with family members they dislike.

Well it's not for our super extended family or anything.

Just grand parents, uncles and aunts. There's not any family tension or anything, it's just that my mom is a total perfectionist and when she hosts things like this where a lot of people are going to be judging her and her hosting, she goes completely carp ape carp.

She usually takes her stress out on my sister, dad and I, which in turn puts us all in a bad mood and then we don't even enjoy the get-together.

But that isn't why I dislike Christmas. I dislike Christmas because it's so... fake. Hardly anyone celebrates Christmas as it was intended anymore. (AKA a celebration of the birth of Jesus) It's turned into this obsession over gifts and gift-giving and it's just a huge marketing/sales thing that makes me sick.

On top of that, people act so fake around Christmas. So falsely happy and whatever. They put up with you for a day and don't talk to you again for a year. It's disgusting.

RE: Christmas! - mdhvdukshsj - Dec. 12, 2007

jesus born in july? really?

RE: Christmas! - Bey Brad - Dec. 12, 2007

Actually rooneyt is completely correct, Christmas is a PAGAN holiday of the sun God that was altered by the church, and Jesus WAS born in July.

i was going to bring that up, about the pagan holiday.

but the july part? where is that said?

I've heard July a lot from some reputable sources, but I can't cite any specifically. Some research shows that rooney is pretty close either way, and just about everyone agrees he sure as hell wasn't born in December.

RE: Christmas! - Roan - Dec. 12, 2007

In before religious debate:

I don't care so much about the religious connotations of Christmas. I'm still upset by the complete fallacy of my family members. They pretend to be interested in me long enough to get a gift for me and give it, then disappear for another year.

The disgusting capitalization on Christmas by retailers is a whole other discussion.

I don't consider it disgusting. If people are stupid enough to buy into it, their problem.

I guess I'm stupid too, because I bought Annie some pretty nice gifts for Christmas.

Well, I likely won't get anything from anyone except my parents and sister.

Which I'm ok with. I'd prefer that no one else got me anything anyway because they always get some totally carp gift that no thought went into.

"ZOMG JELLY BRACELETS?! AWESOME"

I seriously got those from my Aunt one year.
