iTouch as a gaming platform. - Giga - Jun. 06, 2009

What do you guys think to this? I really, really like my iTouch 2nd Gen for gaming. Proably better than my DS TBH, cheap affordable games plus gems like Spore. Who owns an iDevice and uses it for gaming?

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Ash - Jun. 06, 2009

I dont have one, but my brother has some nice games on his iPod (Guitar Hero alternative, 3D Strategy War Game xD). Im not very familiar with the iPhone.

Also, I accidently chose no on the poll when i meant to say yes.

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Giga - Jun. 06, 2009

Mmm. Tap Tap is good. The main thing I like is "games" such as Pocket God, or Koi Pond where you just either A) mess with the Islanders/Fish or B) be nice to them, feed them and such, but in a non Sims kinda way.

I don't think the iTouch could ever be a full gaming platform. It may be able to be advertised as one, but it doesn't compare to the DS or PSP.

Only touch/accelerometer controls severely limits its capability.

I don't use my iPod Touch for many games as such. I find constantly touching the screen weird; I prefer having physical buttons which give me feedback.

Although I do like the idea of an all in one package which can easily fit in my pocket.

I play Tap Tap, Pac Man and gpSPhone most.

I heard about Pocket God, which I might look into because it sounds interesting. And also Peggle.

The more you play the more you get used to it. Do you own one?

God I sound like an Apple advertiser.

EDIT: Seriously buy Pocket God, Flight Control and Doodle Jump. Total of about £3. Also I like the cheap prices and the fact you don't have to leave your house to get games.

I think Tap Tap is an awesome game, but I think buttons would be way more suited for a game like that where precision really counts.

EDIT: I do not own one, but I've spent quite a bit of time playing on other people's.

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Giga - Jun. 06, 2009

Eh? Have you tried playing Guitar Hero (DS version), it's no where near as good without the guitar. Much better with touch control.

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - SK - Jun. 06, 2009

i have a iphone 3g
when there's nothing to do at work (i sit at the register), i like playing some games on it. but other than that, i don't really like playing games on it

btw mgs4 for iphone was carp lol

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Giga - Jun. 06, 2009

iPhone is not as good as iTouch for gaming

Why is that? They run practically the same OS. If anything the iPhone's system is probably better and more advanced?

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Bey Brad - Jun. 06, 2009

A gaming system can't work without tactile feedback.

lol. they're the same. i know, i've owned both itouch and iphone..

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Giga - Jun. 06, 2009

No. One has a phone system to cope with. Plus other things. Look it up.

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - SK - Jun. 06, 2009

i'm too lazy to look it up, but that's not a valid argument, since iphone can't multitask (yet)

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Khel - Jun. 06, 2009

I've played a few games, but I lost interest after a while. I don't dig the whole touch screen only playback, but I can see it working for others.

When your phone rings the game pauses, does it not.

Although you'd probably want to pause your game to pick up your phone anyway, if you had a separate one.

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - Neeek - Jun. 06, 2009

You prefer it to your DS, Really?
The games on the Itouch and Iphone aren't as in depth as a DS or PSP, they're only ment to played for short amounts at a time. I would choose my DS over an Ipodtouch any day.

RE: iTouch as a gaming platform. - To - Jun. 07, 2009

It's as much as a video game platform as Nokia's new N-Gage platform or any random Java games on people's phones, ie it's not. The kind of games that mostly populate the thing are meant for super short bursts, and usually don't have the depth found in DS, or PSP games. That's because of a lack of buttons. And because Apple has a "We don't care" approach to approving games it will become even harder, and harder to find such gems beneath the heaps of trash.

And really, you have never heard of Spore until you saw it in the Apps store? Really? No wonder EA isn't the biggest third party anymore.
